My mom used to spank me all the time when I was little. She would use this paddle that my brother made in shop class at school. It was pretty harsh. I would have bruises afterwards but nothing was ever done about it. I'm not saying I was a perfect child or anything but I didn't deserve some of the beatings I received. Now that I look back on it my moms lucky she didn't end up in jail of something.

From like the fourth to eighth grade if I was bad I got the belt. My dad and mom don't beat me anymore since I'm 18.

Last time they did was like in 10th grade...

Nope.

The only time my parent's hit me is if we're goofing off. And I'm usually the one that hits them first. It's not violent or NEthing. Love slaps ;)

Yes, if I was particularly out-of-line as a child then my parents would spank me.
I don't hate them for it. I don't resent that kind of treatment. If a child is disobedient then you have to teach him or her that what they have done is wrong. Simply telling a child not to do something doesn't always work so you have to give them a whack sometimes. It's the only way they'll learn.
People who say that parents have no right to hit their children are wrong IMO. A parent has every right to discipline a child. If there were no discipline then we'd have a generation of criminals on our hands. What is wrong is when a parents abuse a child. There is a huge difference between discipline and abuse and people need to realise this.

Kind of.... I was a fairly decent child. My father didn't even hit me that hard.. he tapped me. Like a playful tap. But because I was so little, I made a big deal out of it

There is a big difference between being spanked (trained) and being beaten. I was spanked as a child, and I am very thankful for my parents' correction.

I was spanked occasionally when I was little, but I haven't been since I was 9 or 10.

I think maybe when I was younger, but not anymore. I don't really remember too many details about so it must not have been that bad.

I was spanked when I was really little like 6 or 7. I haven't been spanked for years now, which I'm grateful for.

I couldn't agree more! :D My parents would occassionally spank me when I was an unruly child. It was extremely infrequent, and afterward we would discuss why it happened. My parents would be like, "We love you. We didn't want to do that. But, your behavior was excessively out of line." We would then talk about ways to correct the behavior so it wouldn't happen in the future. I respect them for that because it was obvious that they genuinely didn't want to, but also didn't want me to grow up into a monster. Now, the parents out there who abuse their kids should all be horsewhipped and shot, if you ask me. There is a BIG difference between discipline and abuse.

Yes, I was spanked when I was little. My parents sometimes used a belt or a wooden spoon on my brothers and me.

Um.. yes, but nothing like what Ive been reading. Id get like, spankings on my ass when I was being a bitch. It wasnt even hard-- I was like 3 years old. They never used a belt or paddle- just their hand and it was only done once. No biggie. Some of the kids I see today need a spanking. I was never grounded though. My parents should be lucky they raised me so well!! LOl

I was spanked as a child by my parents. I am glad they did spank me. When I was a child, my parents told me that they spank me because they loved me. I didn't understand that until later on. When you get physically disciplined, the child is afraid to try that again and does not get hurt in another way. At work, I saw some stupid lady bring in her child. The little brat kept kicking her leg over and over again. I thought the skin was going to fall off. She tried to "reason" with him, and he tried to take her purse. This kid was probably 5 years old or something. Anyway, my adrenaline was rushing and I wanted to say "Spare the rod, spoil the child" but I kept my tounge. Since I have been disciplined, it has helped me be more independant, thoughtful of others, and knowing that my parents did that so that I do not get into any trouble when I was little. It worked.

I totally agree with Bea Arthur when she said on "Maude"

Maude: Sometimes in order to make a child act like an angel on one end, you have to beat the devil out of him on the other end. Actually it's called "exorcism".

I was spanked as a kid. It wasn't that bad and rarely happened but the threat of it happening kept me in line.

Yes, I was spanked by my parents. And when I stayed with my grandparents, if I was bad, they'd spank me too. My dad didn't believe in time out or grounding, well, he did ground me, but only after he spanked me.
