View Full Version : Three's Company References on Other Shows
David 03-01-2003, 02:58 PM Have you heard Three's Company mentioned on other shows or movies or something? Here's what I've heard it on:
Obviously, 8 Simple Rules- The Three's Company based episode
Step By Step-
Suzanne Somers says "You look like (forgot name) from I Dream of Jeanie"
Bronson Pinchot says "You look like Chrissy from Three's Company"
Full House-
There was an episode where Michelle buys a dog or something, and it won't go to sleep unless Uncle Jesse sings the Three's Company theme song. They sing it like 3 times in the episode.

it's a donkey
Unwanted Angel 03-01-2003, 10:34 PM They did a Three's Company spoof on Stay Tuned one of John Ritters movies...
Unwanted Angel 03-18-2003, 12:17 PM I just saw on an episode of the Golden Girls...Dorothy says something to Rose
Dorothy-You sound like Jack and Janet when they are talking to Chrissy on an episode of Three's Company..
w6xrl4 03-18-2003, 12:31 PM I recall an episode of Friends where Rachele thinks Monica and Chandler are asking her to live with them. She thinks it's a great idea and starts singing: Come and knock on our door..........
GoldenFamilyTies 03-18-2003, 01:47 PM In Friends they also had an episode where TC was on their TV. :)
*Pleasant Tomorrow* 03-18-2003, 07:01 PM Yeah, once I was watching that show "Sister, Sister" and one of the twins wasn't allowed to watch TV because she had to do HW or something??? Anyways, she starts singing theme songs from shows and all of a sudden she starts singing the TC theme and then explaining what episode it was(which by the way I think was like totally made up:lol: ) but yeah...
tesiay 03-19-2003, 05:21 AM I am pretty sure they were watching it on That '70s Show.
Nanny Fine 03-19-2003, 08:07 AM There were 2 other instances on FRIENDS as well. One the group was watching the show and Chandler says "oh this must be the episode where there is some sort of Misunderstanding" (LOL they are ALL LIKE that!) and the other was the one where Chandler went out with the girl who called his apartment thinking Bob still lived there and he gave her Ross's phone number. Ross wanted to know why she gave him his phone number and he said because he thinks my phone number is Bob's phone number, etc. Ross responds with a comment about Three's CompanY (I can't think at the second it's too early). :) I'll look it up later :)
w6xrl4 03-19-2003, 02:49 PM I believe the Ross line is: ....so what do we do if Mr. Roper calls.
*Pleasant Tomorrow* 03-20-2003, 10:02 PM I think they mentioned watching it on Freaks and Geeks before, too.
Czas na Zywiec 03-21-2003, 01:31 AM Well on Discovery Channel, there's a tv show where people come and give a make-over to a room in your house called Surprise By Design. Anyway, one of the guys found one of those fuzzy 70's hanging lamps in the basement and said "This looks like something that Mrs. Roper would have in her apartment." :lol: I thought it was funny.
Sitcomwriter 03-21-2003, 02:07 AM In the "Will & Grace" flashback episode when Will first meets Jack he says something like this "Ok Jack I'll meet you,Janet and Chrissy at The Regal Beagle for lunch but first I have to pay the rent to Mr.Roper" or something like that.
Three'sCompanyrules 03-25-2003, 05:15 AM I saw an episode of Married with Children and Peg, was ssaying something to Al and she mentioned Joyce Dewitt. I thought that was pretty cool.
On "Newhart" when Bob and Peter Scolari are discussing the worst shows of all time, Bob offers "Three's Company."

They also did a Three's Company spoof on "What's Happening" that was so funny lol.

Three's Company is mentioned another time on that show, and at first I thought you were going to name it. I didn't know Three's Company was mentioned more than once on Step By Step.
It's an episode where Carol (Suzanne) is pregnant and she is sitting on the couch watching Three's Company. You can hear the theme music play, and her daughter, Dana comes in the room with a disgusted look on her face. I think she then says something, and Carol goes, "That Chrissy really cracks me up." Then she makes a dingy Chrissy Snow face.
Then Dana said something like, "Oh please. What is it this time? Let me guess--the girls are in their tight shorts and their is some WACKY misunderstanding." It was pretty hilarious.

But you forgot to cite the 2nd part of the joke! :p
After Chandler says, "I think this is the epsiode of 'Three's Company' where's there's some sort of misunderstanding",
Phoebe reaches for the remote while she says, "Then I've already seen this one."
:rotflmao:
TALLguyinKY 05-02-2003, 04:25 AM TC was mentioned on "Mama's Family" once, too.
Iola tells Mama that her mother "is engrossed in 'Life of the Locust' on PBS".
Mama: "I swear, that woman'll watch anything with six legs."
Iola: "That's so true...she just loves 'Three's Comp'ny'!"
:lol:
And she says it "Comp'ny" like 'at, too. lol
mickfoley123 07-27-2003, 08:46 PM In the episode of the Simpsons earlier tonight, Selma is making out with Moe in the dark and when the lights come back on she says "Hey! You're not John Ritter!" Then they go back to kissing. It was so funny!
beckyc 07-29-2003, 04:27 PM On Married With Children, Marcy said her and Peg were going to see a play that starred Joyce DeWitt.
Oh and this may be off topic but I was watching Married with Children yesterday and Richard Kline was in it.
MidnightSky 07-29-2003, 07:42 PM yeah...there was a couple references on "Family Guy" like when death is coming to get peter and her breaks his ankle and he's sitting on the couch..
peter: you can't stay here...we don't have enough room in the house, and how are we going to explain you to mr. roper?
and then in the episode where peter goes to the camp to get in touch with his femanie side....the women are sitting in a circle talking a pregnacy...
Peter: oh my god, I have pregnacy horror stories for you..
and Lois is in the bathroom throwing up and Peter is watching TC and then you her Lois in the bathroom coughing and gagging and whatnot and her turns it up really loud and they play the song at the end of the episode too!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
and then on futurama
Its on the "Didanic" episode...
Fry pretended to be Lila's boyfriend/fiance so one of her old bf's won't make a move and Amy pretended Fry was HER boyfriend b/c her parent's want her to get married soon...and everyone is at diner all at the same table and everyone's like "come on fry, give your girlfriend a kiss" and he sits there in the middle of Lila and Amy
Lila: what are we going to do? he can't kiss both of us!!
Fry: relax, I learned how to handle a delicate social situations from a little show called "Three's Company"
Amy's Parents: what are you doing? Kiss my daughter!!
Fry: let's see....da da da da da daaa......take a step that is new.....mr. roper.....da da da da
it was great!!
Actually it's Leela. And they were on the Titanic. ;)
Also, there was another Three's Company reference on Family Guy. Joe and his wife, Bonnie, were walcthing the Griffins on their new reality show 'The Real Live Griffins', lol, and Bonnie made a remark that goes something like...
Bonnie: You know Joe, you're attitude and sexiness really reminds me of Larry from Three's Company.
Joe: LARRY! ALRIGHT!
lol Something to that effect.
And during the Y2K/New Year's Eve episode, they were watching TV, and they were doing a salute to the greatest people of the past 1000 years. They showed three people. Joan of Arc, Leonardo DaVinci, and Norman Fell, lol.
Bella_KitKat 08-08-2003, 09:38 AM Also, on Step by Step, there was yet ANOTHER one. It was the eppy where Karen lost her diary and Cody turned it into a 1940s mystery. In the scene where "Sam Spud" (Cody) wants to talk to Ms. Honey Dew (Carol) and Frankie (Frank) is still there...
Sam Spud: Uh...Frankie...we kinda need to talk allone
Frankie: Oh...I get it...three's a crowd
Ms. Honey Dew: Funny, I always thought three's company
and then Brendan or someone does the drum thing, you know, when you tell a joke
Being a fan of both "Three's Company" and "Family Guy", I had to watch that scene again. the episode your referring to is "Fifteen Minutes of Shame" and the actual dialog goes like this:
Bonnie: Wow, Joe, this sort of makes you like Larry from Three's Company. You know, I always thought he was sexy.
Joe: YES, I AM ALL ABOUT LARRY OVER HERE!
Yea, I didn't tape it, just saw it the night before and was paraphrasing what I remembered, lol.
*Pleasant Tomorrow* 08-09-2003, 06:37 PM On Will and Grace, Jack was being a little stupid I guess...and he said something I don't remember, something that gave Will an idea I guess? And Will goes to Grace, "You know, I think Chrissy's on to somethig here."
Selena_Armada 05-28-2016, 01:25 AM OK LOOK CLOSELY AT THE FOO FIGHTERS EVERLONG VIDEO... WHEN IT GETS TO THE CAMPING SCENE AND THE BEDROOM CAMPING SCENE HOW REMINISCENT IS THAT OF THE THREES COMPANY EPISODE A CAMPING WE WILL GO??! PLEASE TELL ME IM NOT THE ONLY ONE WHOS NOTICED THIS . I HAVE NOT SEEN ANYTHING MENTIONED ON THIS FORUM.
JackJanetChrissy 05-28-2016, 02:28 PM The camping set looks a lot like the one in "A Camping We Will Go" but other than that I can't say it reminds me of that episode. However, how much does Dave Grohl and Taylor Hawkins look like Jack and Chrissy??? Not sure if that was intended or not, but I did notice a resemblance.
BigManMike 05-28-2016, 02:37 PM On Everybody Hates Chris, Tonya says her mother said she could watch Three's Company, much to Chris's and Drew's dismay, when they were trying to watch basketball. Also in the very next episode, the family got a new tv and once they had set it up, Tonya said she wanted to watch Three's Company but then the boys said no Three's Company. But then Julius said since it was only 30 minutes she could watch it.
BigManMike 05-28-2016, 02:38 PM And in another episode of Everybody Hates Chris, the narrator Chris mentioned something about watching The Ropers with his mother.
One Day at a Time referenced Suzanne Somers a few times. She also had a bit part in an early episode. (Richard Kline also did an ep).
Svenfan1234 05-28-2016, 08:18 PM On Freaks and Geeks, they mentioned it.
eleri 05-29-2016, 12:39 PM It's mentioned at least twice on Community:
Intermediate Documentary Filmmaking
Jeff warns Pierce, "If you pull any Ferris Bueller, 'Parent Trap,' 'Three's Company,' 'F/X,' or 'F/X 2: The Deadly Art of Illusion' bull(bleep), I will beat you, and there will be nothing madcap or wacky about it."
Intro to Felt Surrogacy
Abed says, "We've fallen into a comfortable, repetitive pattern, like humorous misunderstandings on 'Three's Company' or girls gossiping on 'Gossip Girl.'"
DJM77 05-31-2016, 07:40 PM On "Newhart" when Bob and Peter Scolari are discussing the worst shows of all time, Bob offers "Three's Company."
There was another episode of Newhart where Michael (Peter Scolari) says something along the lines of "I like sitcom characters. Well, except for that Mrs. Roper from Three's Company. To this day I can't see a moo-moo without thinking of that horny woman!"
hunt577 06-05-2016, 11:20 PM If this one was already posted, I apologize in advance.
In an episode of "The Golden Girls" when Dorothy, Rose and Blanche are all upset with each other, Dorothy says -
"I think I saw Jack and Janet give this treatment to Chrissy on an episode of Three's Company."
BigManMike 06-06-2016, 07:05 AM I heard John Ritter mentioned on Mork and Mindy the other day.
JackJanetChrissy 06-06-2016, 12:50 PM I heard John Ritter mentioned on Mork and Mindy the other day.
Cool! You know, Jack mentioned Mork and Mindy in "Itching for Trouble" in Season 8. I wonder if he asked the writers to work that in? I know he and Robin Williams were friends.
Flying Dutchman 08-31-2016, 11:55 AM [QUOTE=David]Have you heard Three's Company mentioned on other shows or movies or something? Here's what I've heard it on:
Step By Step-
Suzanne Somers says "You look like (forgot name) from I Dream of Jeanie"
Bronson Pinchot says "You look like Chrissy from Three's Company"
Was that the episode where Suzanne acts out the Chrissy character? I would swear I saw an episode where she acts out the Chrissy charater.
tlc38tlc38 08-31-2016, 12:15 PM Mentioned by Iola on "Mama's Family" in the episode "Gift Horse".
tlc38tlc38 08-31-2016, 12:17 PM TC was mentioned on "Mama's Family" once, too.
Iola tells Mama that her mother "is engrossed in 'Life of the Locust' on PBS".
Iola: "That's so true...she just loves 'Three's Comp'ny'!"
:lol:
And she says it "Comp'ny" like 'at, too. lol
Just saw this after I made my post. I love this episode!
Sacha61 09-17-2016, 12:52 PM Actually it's Leela. And they were on the Titanic. ;)
On Family Guy they also found Joyce Dewitt (Janet) hiding in a dumpster and they said "Oh that's what happened to her."
TerriFan 10-02-2016, 03:15 AM I am pretty sure they were watching it on That '70s Show.
Don Knotts revived Mr. Furley in a dream sequence, multicolored scarf and all. It was when Jackie moved in at the start of the last season and Donna plans to send dirty pictures to Eric in Africa, which everybody finds. I don't remember a spoof of TC.
MDCSWildcats86 10-29-2016, 10:53 PM There was a WHAT'S HAPPENING!!! episode where they imagined themselves on other then-ABC shows, 3'S COMPANY included.
gidgetgrape 10-29-2016, 11:26 PM Mork mentions "Three's Company" in episode 16 (Young Love) of "Mork and Mindy." He's reciting Eugene and Holly's wedding vows and one vow is to "learn about life by watching Three's Company." :happyface
Ohio8 05-18-2017, 09:15 PM Friends:
Rachel (singing): "Come and knock on our door..."
Monica (singing): "We'll be waiting for you."
Ohio8 02-18-2018, 02:40 PM ALF:
ALF: "Well, get a couple of roommates. A blond, and a brunette. But remember, when Mr. Roper comes over, pretend you're gay."
Ohio8 03-03-2018, 03:36 PM Don Knotts revived Mr. Furley in a dream sequence, multicolored scarf and all. It was when Jackie moved in at the start of the last season and Donna plans to send dirty pictures to Eric in Africa, which everybody finds. I don't remember a spoof of TC.
Ohio8 03-03-2018, 03:37 PM Friends/Chandler: "What would Jack and Chrissy do?"
FredScuttle 03-08-2018, 01:34 PM I didn't see it mentioned, but there's at least one more Three's Company reference on Family Guy, on episode "The Tan Aquatic with Steve Zissou". Stewie is working on a tan, and he oversleeps in the tanning bed and gets a bad sunburn. He wants Brian to squirt some lotion on him, and as he's doing it, Mr. Furley walks in on them. Brian says it's not what it looks like, and Mr. Furley says "Never mind, I'll come back later" and runs out.
Sacha61 03-08-2018, 03:09 PM Family Guy had lots of TC references!
