I have a question to ask of the members: Do you think that Sanford and Son was not as funny in later seasons; do you think the show, while still funny and enjoyable to watch, was not as laugh out loud funny in the last couple of seasons?

Well, you already know my answer, but I'll post for the ones that don't know my answer. Sanford and Son is really one of the rare shows that never jumped the shark, imo. Yeah, it did kind of get weak in the later seasons, but it still never jumped the shark. Maybe if it lasted a couple of years longer, it prob. would've jumped then.

I agree,it lost something in the later seasons.

The only thing that bugged me about the later seasons was the constant applause whenever a character made their first appearance. The peak of this came in the "Steinberg and Son" episode where Fred, Lamont, Esther, Grady and Bubba all got ovations in the first seven minutes of the show. Enough!

Some of the episodes in the later seasons, like the one where the guy gives Fred the elephant and he has to put on a circus, are really kind of stupid. But for the most part the show was still funny, JMO.

This is something I've been saying all along during my short tenure here. I think the best episodes are roughly 1972 to about early '75. After that, Foxx looks kinda like he's going through the motions & is more 'mean-spirited' & less lovably grumpy. And *forget* Demond. HE looks totally bored, expressionless & unhappy.


The constant applause someone mentioned is simply b/c the show was so well established & popular by the later years. (but there *is* something a little annoying about it somehow. Same thing happens on later episodes of Happy Days)

There is something kind of annoying about the constant applause, but it does establish the show's popularity.

On the subject of Demond - I'm watching the later seasons when he supposedly acts unhappy, grouchy, whatever, and I am honestly not noticing much of a change from how he acted in the earlier seasons. I did notice, though, that Fred isn't as grouchy as he was before. For me, that takes away from the humor of the show.
