Leigh Ann 02-25-2003, 08:53 PM Yeah, I heard that too. I'm not sure it would work as well as Lucy. Ricardos4ever 02-25-2003, 11:15 PM I'd tune in to the show out of curiousity, but it wouldn't be nearly as entertaining. Although Fred and Ethel are great second bananas, they probably wouldn't do the leading roles so well. It's kinda of like the spin-off of "Three's Company" with just the Ropers. The same joke about Mr. Roper not being romantic enough in the bedroom couldn't carry the whole series, so it failed. If they did a Mertzes spin-off, it would be the same insults back and forth and it would get old after awhile. It is cute as sub-plot, but no more. SPLAIN 02-26-2003, 10:53 AM The Ropers comparison is RIGHT ON! Mickey 02-26-2003, 12:21 PM Might have been nice as a one-off though. A Christmas special one year or something? Say, Ricardos4Ever - that's a really good picture you use as part of your ID section. Where's it from originally? *InThisMoment* 02-26-2003, 04:15 PM it might of been nice but not as good as i love lucy. It was on the cover of a magazine. I can't remember which one because I don't have the picture of it with me now, but when I find out I'll certainly post it. SPLAIN 02-26-2003, 05:34 PM I think it was a movie magazine, i saw it on E Bay. Ricardos4ever 02-26-2003, 08:36 PM Yes, e-bay is where I saved the picture from. Barnabas1 02-27-2003, 09:49 AM I would watch it, but it couldn't be as good as ILL. Ricardos4ever 02-28-2003, 10:53 PM Originally posted by SPLAIN I think it was a movie magazine, i saw it on E Bay. "Movie Life" was the name of the magazine. The year was 1942. JaneTVFan 03-08-2003, 03:06 AM Originally posted by SPLAIN The Ropers comparison is RIGHT ON! Hey, what about that couple next door to the Bunkers that moved off and got their own show, The Jeffersons? Throw in someone like Florence to help Ethel dish out insults at Fred, and someone like Mother Jefferson to dish 'em out at Ethel, and a couple neighbors like the Willises and Mr. Bentley to get under Fred's skin the way they did to George Jefferson and there might have been a pretty decent show there. SPLAIN 03-10-2003, 11:55 AM Oh, i think we all agree it could have succeeded, especially with Desi as producer, but the hatred factor would have been hard to deal with, although if we knew about half the feuds that go on in shows like this. . . BundyBoy10 04-26-2003, 02:37 PM It is possible that it could of been succcessful. It would of last for at least 3 seasons I would think. Impressions 04-26-2003, 03:31 PM I don't think they could have carried a show by themselves, but it may have worked, and I don't think it would have been as good as anything Lucille Ball has done in her TV shows. I can see how it could have worked with The Mertzes, they could have new neighbors or friends etc., and maybe in a new setting, along with new storylines, and I think if they weren't on each other nerves all the time, it might have worked. Another idea is, maybe if they created a sketch comedy/variety show that involved Lucille Ball and Desi Arnez who would guest star from time to time or maybe a cast that would perform with the Mertzes and they would preform skits and small plays and have guest stars that would sing and dance etc,, like The Carol Burnett Show, it could have worked. |
