Here's an interesting topic for all you internet junkies. :typing: Have you ever dated someone online? Whether you've seen what they looked like or not. I did and let me say it was fun for awhile, but he was such a jerk. Glad I found that out before I met him in person. I live in South Jersey and S.J. is a bad place in my opinion to meet people. I rarely can find an interesting soulmate thats why I turned to cyberspace. Anyone else stoop as low as me and date someone online?

I've dated women without them knowing it, but I have never dated online.

Has anyone tried the online dating services? Some of my friends have gotten good results with Match.com...

The entire Internet is a bad place to meet people. You never know what kind of jerks you'll come across.

I never have but I've thought about meeting someone in person that I met online though, like through a dating service. That's how my brother met his wife and they are very happy together. I'm just scared to put my pic or alot on info about myself online because you can never trust anybody.

I can understand where you're coming from on that. I'm probably the most paranoid person on this board and yet I have a personal site with my pic on it. I figure if other people with personal sites have the guts to do it why not me? It's not like I got my address up on there though.

Yes, I have. that's how I met Lacey (laceyinthesky). We are very happy together. I don't think of it as an internet relationship, it's a relationship. The only thing that sucks is the distance, she's in Texas, I'm in California. I've went to visit her twice, and we had a lot of fun ;). I don't see how it's any different than meeting someone in a bar, why do people think it's so taboo to find love on the net? Our relationship is great, it's been a year now. Pretty soon we'll be together, plans are in the works. :)

I totally agree with you! Just because you meet on the internet doesn't mean it's classified as, "Internet dating". It is capable of growing into something more. I've been in a relationship with a guy I met on the internet five years ago. We don't even talk on the internet anymore. We call each other and have visited each other on occasions. We hope to be together real soon after he graduates from college.

I'll admit, meeting someone online is not normally a good idea because there are sickos out there. But sometimes you meet someone who genuinely is who they say they are. I'm not encouraging anyone out there to try it but if you do always remember to be cautious. Don't let your guard down right away.

I agree.. I never really thought much about the whole internet dating thing. Me and John Lennon Lives didn't start talking with that intent. We'd known each other a while but it just sort of progressed from there.

The fact is,you have to be careful, whether you meet someone face to face locally,or on the internet,no matter how you meet someone, there's always a risk involved. That's just my 2 cents:)

No. And I don't think I ever will. It's just too dangerous IMO. I mean I talk to a lot of people on here and there is a high risk that they aren't really who they say they are. Like...okay well this is most likely not true but someone could be saying they're in their teen years when really they are grown adults. And even if they show a picture or anything that still doesn't matter. That could be somebody else. You just never know until you meet in person which is definitely scary as anything. I'm really paranoid about these things and I wonder about these things all the time which sometimes gives me doubts about coming here n stuff even when I know that everyone here is probably who they say they are, but there is still a risk. You'll just never know. That's why we gotta be careful n stuff cuz well there's lots of sick people out there but then again there are lots of nice people...ok I'll stop now.

I've never had a online relationship but I had a friend who did it didnt work out for her (not because he was a jerk or anything but just because Heather was TOTALLLLY different then what she told the guy so she was the one who lied)
I've had long distances before though

I agree. No offense to anyone who actually likes that show or Joe Millionaire, but I find them incredibly boring and stupid. Just my opinion.
The guy I'm talking about he IMed me on AOL a long time ago and we became friends then we 'dated' online. No biggie I mean we did talk on the phone occasionally and stuff. We would send Christmas cards and stuff through the mail. Oh well, the point is you meet people online everyday and something's bound to happen.

I don't call it being desperate. Most "online dating" as some people would call it, happens by chance meetings in chatrooms. I would say most people go to chatrooms to let off steam or to just have fun... not to meet a potential mate for life. That's not how it happened with me. I had just gotten a computer. I was new to the whole computer thing five years ago, let alone the internet. So, I came home from school and went into this chatroom called wbs that a friend was telling me about that day. I thought it'd be interesting... my first experience in a chatroom. I just happened to meet this really sweet guy there and now we've been together for five years. It was not something planned so therefore couldn't be a desperate act on either of our parts.

I know some people may go out looking for a bf/gf on the internet but they have their reasons. It's not a smart thing to do, but that is their choice. This is the year of 2003. You don't just meet people at parties or school like you used to. Now we have the internet, personal ads, blind dates, and even these ridiculous reality shows that are coming out like, "Married by America"(which I won't even get into... too bizarre). The point is, it's not desperate. Things just work differently these days. Albeit, it's a little more dangerous. But if you do happen to meet someone legit, you fall in love and build a life together... it makes an interesting story to tell later on.

Well, see I wasn't even looking, nor was I in a chatroom. An IM just suddenly popped up and the guy said 'I like your profile,' you know those profiles you can make on AOL. He said he liked me because it's not everyday you'll find a girl who has 'The Golden Girls' and 'Britney Spears' in their profile. This was back when Britney was just starting out as a pop star so it was a while back. So technically I wasn't even really 'looking' it just sorta happened that way. I wish it didn't though because now I'm all depressed about it. :(

You're wrong.. it's not internet dating. We don't even talk on the internet anymore. If you actually see someone and interact with them (without the internet) it's not internet dating. And yes, you're free to state your opinion, but don't expect saying something like "oh i'm not that desperate to do that" to not get a response.
