MON---LUCY GOES TO VEGAS

Lucy pretends to be a wealthy heiress in Las Vegas.

TUE---LUCY AND THE MONSTERS

Lucy meets horror-movie creatures in her dreams.

WED---LUCY AND THE COUNTESS

The first of the "Countess" episodes and quite possibly the low point of the entire series.

THU---MY FAIR LUCY

The Countess opens a charm school.

FRI---LUCY AND THE COUNTESS LOSE WEIGHT

Lucy and the Countess go to a faltering health farm.

You were doing so well Sal up until now, the Countess was a high point as far as i'm concerned, Ann Sothern and Lucy together was magic. But you're entitled to your opinion. I was dissapointed with the Danny Kaye one, but am so looking forward to the Dean Martin one. Today the satellite was down so i missed the Vegas entry!

I know everyone has an opinion on the Countess episodes and here's mine: I didn't like them. I think it was a lame attempt to find someone, anyone, to replace Vivian Vance, who worked so well with Lucy but was by this time getting fed up with her so she left and was never adequately replaced.

Ann Sothern was a top B-movie actress in the past who did have some success in TV with "Private Secretary" but was by this time well past her prime and she likely agreed to play the Countess as a favor to her old pal Lucy and also because she wasn't getting much work to do. Someone must have been impressed by her work here because it immediately led to another full time TV sitcom gig. The bad news is that gig turned out to be "My Mother The Car", a real letdown if there ever was one!

I rest my case!

Well, that B movie actress also got an Oscar nomination for The Whales of August many years later, and Viv was not so much fed up with Lucy as she was having trouble with her philandering hubby who was bisexual and seizing the opportunity to cheat when she was out of town. Don't get me wrong, i am very happy that you post these things on The Lucy show, i only came to Ann's defence as she has always been a favorite of mine. Also, the return of the Countess means i will finally see the one with Bill again after all these years.

Well, one of those eps features a cameo by Freddie boy himself, the great Bill Frawley, look for it, it was so nice to see them together again, they had to wait for Viv to leave before they could hire him!

You've got a few more weeks before you see Bill Frawley on TLS. He was in the second wave of countess episodes after Lucy moved to California.

William Frawley appears in episode number #93 of The Lucy Show entitled "Lucy and the Countess Have A Horse Guest". He plays the horse trainer at the beginning of the episode. His appearance is very brief and he doesn't say that much in the episode.
