BarbeeS 02-19-2003, 02:10 PM Just wanted to let you know that on Monday 2/17/03 that Pete Schrum who played Uncle Ed passed away.. Pete suffered a massive heart attack. If you like to read more about he's life you can go to the Canton Repository (newspaper.. there is an article about he's life and all he's accomplishments.)

Wildchats 02-19-2003, 05:37 PM Oh My God! I was jsut thinking about him and that episode where he has his Kidney or whatever taken out and the cheif gives him one.
I have to go for a gastric bypass very soon and am scared. I dont want to die. :(
But yeah, It is sad that he has passed away. Last we heard of him, he was in an automobile accident like in 99' or 00' and it damaged his whole face.
Eric2000 02-19-2003, 07:08 PM Wildchats...What is a gastric bypass? will you have to have surgery for it?
im just curious, i had to have surgery 2 months ago for a hernia, so i'd thought i'd share that with you since you mentioned that..ne way don't wanna go off topic here
bye
Has any one heard any thing on the news about "Uncle Ed"? I sure haven't
Wildchats 02-19-2003, 07:42 PM It's a staple Job. I have sleep apnea, and am obese. I am 290 Pounds, but I dont look that Obese. So the sleep apnea will be cured and the obseity too once I get it done.
Sleep apnea is when one doesnt get enough air when one sleeps at night. People gasp for air sometimes, and wake up not feeling great.
Eric2000 02-19-2003, 08:33 PM Oh ok, good luck :)

Yeah, T.E. Only the kids remain and Telma "Addy" or "Rachel" Hopkins!
Hey, he was actually 66 because he was born in 1936 according to The Internet Movie Database..
Hey, Wildchats, was Peter ever seen in the opening credits????

No. I can tell you that. I have lots of eps.
Wildchats 02-21-2003, 02:55 AM I still dont know why his character left after season 2. I mean, he was ok. He wasn't the greatest, but he was worth cast material. He was in a lot more episodes than Jane Dulo, who was only like in 4 or 5 from season 2.
Maybe the producers thought he had enough and to write him off, since he married in his last episode. I still cant imagine Ed in any of the later seasons (season 3 and on). I was like "Where is ed" when I watched season 3 re-runs. Then I read that he was written off after season 2. I just think his character wasnt that interesting to continue. He was Carl's brother, but I didnt see that much chemistry with them in the 3 episodes I have seen so far that he is in.
Plus I guess the cast was getting too big, and they had to let arlene and Pete go to make room for Joey and Thelema, and to give Simpson a role in the opening credits as well.
But it would have been nice had Ed been cast in seasons 1 and 2. He was defnitly worth cast material. But I think he was not worth cast material as the show continued. I couldnt see him acting all 80's and stuff as they were all doing as the later seasons went on. I guess his jokes were not funny anymore since Sam was growing up, as well as her sisters.
BBFan 06-21-2006, 02:58 AM You'd like to have a character like Peter in any family. I was angry that they didn't keep him on after season two. What gives? I thought he should've had his own sitcom being a spinoff from Gimme a Break called Uncle Ed as I bet it would do well. After all The Jeffersons and Maude were spinoffs from All in the Family. He was my favourite actor in that show and am very devastated that he passed away. He was a big man and being at the weight he is it wasnt a surprise he suffered from a heart attack and was lucky to see 69. Did he die happy, was he a happy man and did the surviving cast from Gimme a Break go to his funeral? He deserved better credit than what he got on the show. Wildchats I dont know why you said Peter wasnt that great as he was a natural but you are entitled to yourt opinion.
BBFan 06-21-2006, 03:04 AM I found Peter a great actor in Gimme a Break and I dont know why you'd say he wasnt that great. He was a natural talent
