Why has Tvkand edited just about every episode of Sanford & son taking out lots of good Jokes and one liners especially if they used the N word in it Please respond and Thanks

Because the N word is controversial.

I agree its controversial but Tvland tries to be too politically correct becaise they will not air one episode of the Munsters episode 53 OMG the Munsters is one of the most family oriented sitcoms of all time and episode 53 is banned simply because when push came to shove Eddie and Herman stood up to their bullies and Tvland is against that Gimme a break

I know what you mean about TV LAND taking out the good parts. For example, the episode when Hulio's relatives mves in the the Sanfords, there was a funny scene with Fred and the little boy. The little boy was able to upthe price on a lamp and get Fred a extra ten dollars. here is the scene below.

Fred:" That was really nice of you to jack the price, give me five!

Boy: No, give men ten!

Fred: Ten?

Boy:Yes, that my ten dollars!

Fred: Your ten dollars?

Boy: Yes it's my ten dollars I was the one who raised the price, so it should be my ten dollars

Fred:you know you have a good head on your shoulders, WANT TO SEE IT ON THE FLOOR?LOL

TV land only shows up to the part when the little boy says give me ten and cuts to a new scene. Thank God my local UPN station shows Sanford and Son and showed that scene.

This is exactly why buying the Sanford and Son dvd set is well worth it. I was surprised at how much TV Land really cuts from episodes, it is totally ridiculous. Political Correctness can be a incorrect when used in the wrong context.

The show just should be edited in a way that will make viewers laugh. TV LAND does a poor job in editing out scenes.

I think the simple answer to the question is that times have changed.

In 1973, few(er) people voiced any opposition to the use of the N word on tv. In fact, the early 70s are the 1st time the word was used openly on tv. Personally, although I'm offended by the word in certain real life social scenarios, I think it adds to the "flavor" & "authenticity" of the style of humor the show was written in. In other words, it's funny on the *show*. (although, funny enough, most of the writers were white & I think Jewish) Just like there's Jewish humor, for instance, there's Black humor. You can find books on both. Use of the N word is a long tradition in Black humor.

But then somewhere along the way, political correctness happened. Attitudes changed & maybe the use of the word on "Black" sitcoms out grew itself. It was an envelope pushing thing to do then, but suicide today. Thus, the editing on TvLand....

Tha's my take on it. :)

It's funny, but my UPN station included all of those edited scenes with the "N" word and even the on mentioned above with the kid. Typically, the editing came at the very beginning of the show or after the commerical break and the rest of the show was left in tact.

Yeah I noticed that TBS and TV LAND try to avoid using the N-word. UPN included it in Good Times episodes also along with Sanford and Son.

Here are the episodes of Sanford and Son that include the N word

Jealously--Donna brings her patient over to dinner with Fred and Lamont. When the guy does his karate deal,he says that N's crazy

Fred Sanford, Legal Eagle--Lamont gets a traffic ticket, when Fred asks the policeman if he ever arrested any white people,Fred told him look around there's enough N******s to fill a jungle movie.

Additionally, the episode where Lamont gets married, Fred refers to the bride's family as "Uppity N's" and when Big Money Grip claims to Esther that he is Lamont's father, Esther says "What did you say N?"

The N word was also used in a Jeffersons' episode about Lionel's term paper and they were bantering back and forth about the H word and N word, and Tom said how would you like to be called N?? George replied,he called us N. Did TV Land edit that episode as well???

Yes N@N showed that scene when Tom called George the N-word.

Having not yet purchased the DVD's I have been editing together versions to make them mostly unedited. They tend to run about 26 minutes, while if taped directly from TVLand they run about
21-1/2 minutes. Gotta squeeze in tons of screwmercials. It really ticks me off, not just the N-Word, but they cut alot of really funny stuff out. I really loved that one liner in "The Piano" that they cut out. They were in this very ritzy rich guys apartment:

Fred: This is a nice place, I wonder how much the rent is here ?
Lamont: What difference does it make, you could never live here.
Fred: Supreme Court says I can live anywhere I want to.
Lamont: Well, you better get the Supreme Court to pay your rent.

I loved that exchange and LMAO everytime I see it.

Hey Bravesfan, I saw that episode today on my local UPN station and the scene was this

Fred:Do you arrest white people?

Policeman:Yes I do

Fred:Well where are they ?

Fred;Look at all these N******s in here. It's enough n******s in here to start a tarzan movie.

Nothing major, but tonight I noticed in "TV or not TV" that they edited the part where Lamont backs the blue convertible into the driveway. In the original, I believe he backs it in, beeps the horn and calls out to Fred before entering the house (where TV Land picks it up).

I just compared the UPN version and TV LAND version of that episode and on the UPN version-Lamont backs up in the blue covertible, and in the TV LAND version, Lamonts is already in the house yelling"POP, Hey Pop"

I watched that episode off the dvd the other night, and I also remember the opening scene being cut from TV Land. The one I am referring to shows Lamont at the car lot looking around at the cars and spying the blue Convertible. Also, at the end he is seen taking the car back. For some reason TV Land has a propensity for cutting out the "exterior" scenes that set up a scene. I really had no idea just to what extent TV Land cuts the episodes, until I bought the dvds.

Another example: In "Lamont's Pad," Lamont is seen caling up more girls on the phone than TV Land showed, plus the whole scene where Lamont is on the phone with one girl, who breaks their date, is missing.

I just looked at the UPN version to see if there is footage of Lamont taking the car back. Let me know is this it. A white man is giving lamont his money back in his hand in the car lot.? Also in the UPN version of Lamont;'s Pad, Lamont calls up Darlene, Joan, and Joyce. Then he gets a call and yes the woman breaks the date. On TV LAND, Lamont calls Darlene, and Joan not Joyce. Yep that scene where he gets stood up is not on TV LAND. On the DVD, Did Lamont call more than 3 girls?

No, Lamont only called three girls on the uncut version, so, UPN's version kept that intact. I am curious you said your copy showed Lamont taking the car back, but did it show Lamont looking at cars at the beginning? I just wonder if all the channels tend to cut this part out.

In the beginning, you see Melvin and Fred looking at TV. The UPN version never shows Lamont buying the car, it shows him returning the car.

TV Land also cut out the part where Fred is leaving and says to Lamont about his planned trip that weekend:

"I hope you run out of gas, and the next station is 5 miles away, and up hill, and when you get there I hope it's closed".

He says this as he is standing by the door, right before Lamont goes to watch the busted TV. I got this part from the old TBS run 10 years ago. As usual TV Land cuts out some of the funnies parts. Anyway, I got sick of trying to piece them together and ordered the first two seasons on DVD. I think it will be well worth it.

Fred;Look at all these N******s in here. It's enough n******s in here to start a tarzan movie.

That is one of my favorite all time lines by Fred.
When I was in the Army, I had a black friend who loved S&S as much as I did and he loved that line too.

Jealously--Donna brings her patient over to dinner with Fred and Lamont. When the guy does his karate deal,he says that N's crazy
I had forgot that line too.
Its funny how times have changed and we have ALL have become so "politcally correct".
I do believe that if a white person had said those lines, it wouldnt have been as funny as when Fred said it though.
He was a nut and still makes me laugh.
