View Full Version : Classic TV shows (before 1970) with the most LIVING members
Safe bet that with most shows from the 70s & 80s , maybe with a few exceptions most members of the cast are still alive.
Now with shows that aired in the 50s and 60s, which ones have the most castmembers who are still with us?
*Gilligans Island: Russell Johnson, Bob Denver, Tina Louise and Dawn Wells
*Mr. Ed: Alan Young, Connie Hines, Edna Skinner ( unless she died recently )
*Dobie Gillis: Dwayne Hickman, Shelia James, Bob Denver,WarrenBetty and Tuesday Weld ( if you want oto count them ).
*Love that Bob: Dwayne Hickman and Ann B. Davis
*Leave it to Beaver: all the kids and Barbara Billingsley
*I'Love Lucy: Little Ricky, maybe Richard Widmark ( again unless he died very recently )
*Dennis the Menace: only the kids still living and Gloria Henry ( wonder if Jay North still has his "hatred" of this show ? )
*The Lucy Show: again just the kids and William Shallert ( I know I mis-spelled that ).
*Maverick: James Garner
*American Bandstand: Dick Clark, sure most of the kids who danced on it are still around.
any others?
BTW......to change the subject, saw in here that Aunt Effie from Mama's Family killed herself. When did it happened?

Question: Is "most" intended to mean the largest number or largest percentage? Both? Either?

No offense, but when the hell was Richard Widmark a cast member of I Love Lucy? All of that show's cast members are deceased. EDIT: Except for Matt Thibodeaux (Little Ricky).

Yes, I heard about that and I'm afraid I don't recall when it was. I want to say it was a few months ago.
In any event, here's what I came up with so far:
the S I X T I E S ! !:
The Brady Bunch - All except Robert Reed <R.I.P.>
TOTAL = 8/9 (89%)
Star Trek - All except DeForest Kelley <R.I.P.>
TOTAL = 7/8 (87.5%)
Lost in Space - All except Jonathan Harris (recently) <R.I.P.>
TOTAL 6/7 (85.7%)
I Dream of Jeannie - Barbara Eden, Larry Hagman, Bill Daily. I'm not sure about Emmaline Henry/Mrs. Bellows (whether to count her as a regular and if she's still alive).
TOTAL = 3/4 (75%)
*** the F I F T I E S ? *** (I'm working on it.)

Emmaline Henry died some time in the late 70s, or early 80s, I want to say 1979 or 1981. I know this because she was set to be a regular member of the "Three's Company" cast as JC Braddock, Chrissy's boss.

Thank you for the info, JT, although I'm sorry to hear that.
I Dream of Jeannie - revised stats:
3/5 (60%)*
* If counted as a regular cast member, otherwise she might be considered an "occasional" or "semi-recurring" character.
AtlantaBravesFan29 02-17-2003, 08:55 PM What about Hayden Rorke who played Dr. Bellows on I Dream Of Jeannie??? I believe he passed away.
Eddie Corbett 02-17-2003, 09:31 PM With the exception of Fred MacMurray and William Demarest, the rest of the cast of My Three Sons are with us . Don Grady, Barry and Stanley Livingston, Tina Cole, Beverly Garland , Dawn Lyn ,and Ronne Troup

He died in either 86 or 87.
dawsongirl 02-17-2003, 10:12 PM Hogan's Heroes- 4 of the 7 regular cast members are still living. Richard Dawson, Robert Clary, Larry Hovis, and Ivan Dixon. Is Kenneth Washington still alive? If he is, then 5 of 8.
Route 66- 100% Martin Milner and George Maharis are still alive.

That's true, which is why we didn't mention him. The topic is about pre-1970 series' cast members of who are still alive.
In the case of Emmaline Henry, I wasn't sure if she was:
a.) still alive, and
b.) considered a "regular" on the series.

Thanks, Dawsongirl, for both answers. (I thought 'Matt' didn't sound right but couldn't think of his first name to save my life.)

joan davis fan 02-18-2003, 12:39 PM Al Lewis from the Musnters is still alive ( around 90 now I guess )
Yvonne DeCarlo I havent heard that she died, though Caroly Jones from the Adams Family died of cancer in 1983. I remember that, she just finshed her role on the long forgotten soap "Captiol".
William Schallert had a small role on Lucy ( if you want to call it that ) as the baseball coach Mr. Cresent ( ? ) .
Richard Widmark...if he still living? Some of the movie channels and A&E did a tribute to him a few weeks back but nothing was said if the man died or if it was his brithday or whatever.
AtlantaBravesFan29 02-18-2003, 12:45 PM Yvonne DeCarlo is very much with us,they did an interview with her not too long ago on Larry King Live.
AtlantaBravesFan29 02-18-2003, 12:48 PM Richard Widmark is very much alive as well. He appeared on A & E Biography a month back, looking very good for 88 years old. Actually, he appeared as a guest star on I Love Lucy in the episode where Lucy sneaks into Richard Widmark's home.

TVJunkie101 02-18-2003, 04:03 PM Yes, Beverly Garland is still very much alive, she had a recurring gig on the ABC soap "Port Charles."
Yvonne DeCarlo is also still very much alive, same goes for Al Lewis. Pat Priest and Beverly Owen are also alive (I'm pretty sure), Fred Gwynne is the only "Munsters" cast member to have passed away.
TVGen, I have no idea where you've gotten you're information, but you really should double check your facts before stating whether someone is alive or dead.
I do realize mistakes can be made, but you really should be a little more careful.
TV Favorites 02-18-2003, 04:14 PM Yes, I just checked and the only Munsters cast member that has passed in Fred Gwynne. Please check your facts next time.
Chad22 02-18-2003, 04:15 PM I Think most of the Andy Griffith Show cast is still alive. I Know Aunt Bea passed away, and i think Floyd The Barber did too.

AtlantaBravesFan29 02-18-2003, 04:23 PM Chad, you must have read my mind,I was just about to post something about the Andy Griffith Show. Hal Smith, who played Otis, and Paul Hartman, who played Emmett the handyman have both passed away as well.

June Lockhart and the kids from Lost In Space(Billy Mumy, Angela Cartwright, and Marla Kristen) are still alive. Guy Williams and Jonathan Harris have passed away,Jonathan Harris died not too long ago by the way.
sally mander 02-19-2003, 01:56 PM Andy Griffith show....Aneta Corsaut who played Helen Crump ( Andy's girlfriend and later wife ) died as did Jack Dodson who played the role of Howard Sprague. Both died around the same time and I believe of the same thing, cancer.
Not many from the show is stil around other that Goober, Barney, Opie, Gomer, and of course Andy himself. Sure I left someone out, in this case I hope I did since they would be still living.

I apologize for the misinformation. I was relying on my, apparently, faulty memories of news I heard (or thought I heard) many years ago. Perhaps you, and others, can understand how something committed to memory for a long time tends to be thought of as "fact". Once locked in, it can be difficult to dislodge. Thank you for dislodging it.
(Al Lewis is still alive? Really?? How old is he, like 150??) :joke:
