Isn't anyone else disturbed by this group known as, t.A.t.U.?- It seems as if they are pretending to be lesbians in order to create controversy, to sell more records.
Who gave them the right to call themselves singers? They sound terrible. On "All The Things She Said," they sound like a squeaky voiced version duet of Britney Spears and Kelly Osbourne.

They sound worse than American Idol rejects.

it does. i saw part of the video. i think they're trying to make it look like the are making out, but all they are doing is rubbing their faces against eachother.

I don't consider myself to be a fan of pop music but I do really like t.A.T.u. People - in the UK especially - are focussing too much on their image and not their music. I bought their album, '200 KM/H in the Wrong Lane', and was pleasently surprised at how good it is.
Of course I don't believe for one minute that they are "sleeping together every night" as one of them recently claimed in a UK magazine article. Personally, I don't think the blonde one is gay at all, although I think (and indeed hope :grineyes: ) that the brunette is! Apparently the brunette - Julia Volkova - was in another all-girl band in Russia before she joined t.A.T.u. but was told to leave because she kept trying it on with the other band members!
I am a lesbian so I have no trouble with that aspect of the bands image. I am however slightly perturbed by the fact that they are dressed-up as school girls in the video. It's the juxtposition of the way they look and the way they act which unnerves me. I know that they are both over 18 now (although apparently they were both under 16 when the video was filmed) but they look so young. I saw an interview with the pair recently which slightley bugged me - they looked so sweet and innocent. They were jibbering away in Russian and just looking sooooooo cute and I was thinking "aww, bless 'em". Next thing I see one of them jump into the other's lap and they start snogging the face off each other! I knew it was bound to happen but it was still a wee bit shocking.
All I can say to the people who find the 'All The Things She Said' video disturbing is this - look up the word 'disturbing' in the dictionary!! To me, the video is pretty tame - I have seen pictures of the t.A.T.u. girls on the internet that actually made me feel guilty for looking at 'em!
Either way, although I can kinda see both sides of the arguement I love t.A.T.u. - their album rules and I am very pleased that they have been at number 1 in the British charts for the past 3 weeks. Whether they are a genuine lesbian couple or not, they are out there and representing and I think that's brilliant!

That's not the "only reason people like them". I dunno where 'All The Things She Said' currently is in the American charts but it's been number 1 in Britain for the past 3 weeks and is currently the longest-running number 1 of the year. I think both the girls are absolutely beautiful (especially Julia) and I think the video in question is very cool but I would not have gone out and bought their album had I not enjoyed the music. Basically, image will only get you so far - you have to have the talent to back it up and I think t.A.T.u. do have the talent.

Basically, all throughout the video we are led to believe that the girls are trapped behind a fence and that everyone else is looking in at them disapprovingly. Only at the end of the video do we see the girls turn a corner with a vast expanse of open ground infront of them and they walk off hand-in-hand into the distance. The camera then turns around and we see that it's actually everyone else who is fenced in. I think this is a great statement which shows perfectly how society in general are the ones who are trapped by their own predudices and preconceptions. The girls are the only ones who are really 'free' because they are doing their own thing and living the way they want to - not the way society tells them they should live .
I think it's a great video, a great song and I hope t.A.T.u. achieve the same amount of success in the rest of the world as they've had in Russia.

I luv them because they can sing and i lov the song also... Stop and listen to it really good and you'll understand it....

I agree, Mossop. It is a great statement. :) And, it's nice to see that statement being made in a music video. Hopefully through that video people will be able to see that if they don't accept others for who they are, it's like they don't accept themselves for who they are, either. There's one video they have called "They're Not Gonna Get Us" in Russian where they're driving down a road in a vehicle and run over a guy or something. Does anyone get the statement they're trying to get across in that video?

How many songs have t.A.T.u. released in America? The only song that's been released as a single in the U.K. so far is 'All The Things She Said'.

They aren't really lesbians, they will be dropped from the label soon since they don't follow what the label tells them. They are supposed to lie they are lesbians to cause controversy or whatever because the labels tells them to. Yet when asked if they are lesbians they go 'Gee, I don't know. Maybe?' they sound so stupid. They have boyfriends too...

I've seen the photos of them with their "boyfriends" - the girls didn't particularly look like they were enjoying the guys company. I just read on one of the bands many websites that the two girls got into a fight last week! Apparently Juila kicked Lena's arse and Lena ended up in hospital with a busted knee!!
Those close to the band put the fight down to exhaustion and nerves since they'd been touring for some time. Apparently all is well now. It's Juila's 18th birthday tomorrow (February 20th) but a party was held for her earlier in the week. The couple "made up" shortly before the party began and - judging by some of the photos I've seen - had a great night!

I know you are basing that opinion on the quote in your siggy but the girls keep changing their story all the time. Don't get me wrong - I do love t.A.T.u. and I'm completely head over heels for Julia but the more I read about them and the more interviews with them I see I find myself increasingly wary of them. I don't care if they are straight and want to fool other straight people that they are gay - I find that funny! But they've done a few interveiws in the gay press recently proclaiming their love for one another and this bothers me. By all means mess with straight people's heads, but don't try'n convice gay people that you're gay when you're not. Not only is that stupid, it's also extremely disrespectful.
A lot of my gay friends find the whole idea of tATu offensive - they're clearly not a gay couple but they're pretending to be just to earn themselves a quick buck. They are trivialising the lifestyle of a hell of a lot of people in order to gain some fame and notoriety. While I can see my friends points I prefer to look at the situation in this way -
So what if tATu aren't really gay? They have been number 1 in the UK charts for 4 weeks, they're really popular and they're not afraid to say that they are gay (whether it's true or not). Are they really doing such a bad thing? I don't think they're making being a lesbian "fashionable" (as one stupid UK tabloid mag recently claimed) - I think they're making it more acceptable. I got beaten-up and bullied at school for being gay. If a band like tATu can help gay kids relate and get through their school years and maybe make the bullies themselves think twice then that can only be a good thing.

yeah, its all fake... the record companies need to reach a new audience, and since the number of children questioning whether they're gay or not has increased dramatically they thaaaaarfore made a group with 2 girls questioning if they're gay or not so that all the little bi children could be like "hey, i can relate to them" but i dont really think its working lol...

I just saw the girls performance on Leno. I thought they were brilliant!!!! That's the first time I have actually heard them sing live. Admittedly, Julia was slightly off-key in places but, given her throat problems, I think she can be forgiven for that.
I'm pissed off that they didn't show the kiss but I didn't really think they would considering how uptight everyone is about that kind of thing. The only reason I never spoke about them before was cos I didn't know if the girls had released a song in America and I didn't think anyone here would have heard of them. Last Friday night Feb.28 I was lucky enough to catch this fabulous girl duo on some late show. These girls are awesome, some real eye candy, to say the least. I can see why they are attracted to each other. I was awe struck by Lena's beautiful, perfect pair of silky legs which complement her tremendous and beautiful bod topped by that abundance of thick red locks. I don't blame Julia for her desiring to caress them.

What more can they ask for, they incorporate a bit of their love into their performance for the whole world to see; they are living their lives to a full and satisfying extent. These girls aren't faking anything and it shows.

Has anyone heard their song Putin? I think they sing it because when I tried to find the song it came up with the Putin song by Tatu. I'm not positive whether it's them that sing it or not, though.

I've heard (or at least heard of) every song that tATu have ever recorded and I've never come accross one by that name.
Perhaps you are thinking of the song 'Robot'? I know that 'Robot' has never been translated into English so maybe 'Putin' is its Russian title.

BTW - the vast majority of tATu's Russian stuff is way better than anything on the English version of '200 KM/PH In the Wrong Lane'. I strongly recommend you check out 'Prostye Dvizheniya' and their new track (recorded for the Eurovision Song Contest next month) 'Ne Ver, Ne Boisya, Ne Prosi'.

The video for 'Prostye Dvizheniya' is well hot!!!! :grineyes:

Lena can speak English - she's been learning since she was a small child and she's pretty good at it now. Julia can only speak Russian - she knows a few English words and phrases but she is not able to hold a conversation.

I was intruiged by your original question Jem and I've been doing a bit of research:
I can't find any tATu song by the name of 'Putin' so I dunno where you got your information from.
I know I originally suggested that the song you were referring to may have been 'Robot' but I know now that this is not the case. I downloaded 'Robot' this evening and although the song is in Russian, 'Robot' is it's Russian title aswell.
So I really don't know what song you are referring to. I'll keep looking - maybe I'll I'll find it. In the meantime, download 'Robot' cos it's a really cool track.
