I went over to Amandas tonite, and her mother was talking about how on the news she heard that people are buying ducttape because theyre preparing for chemical warfare and everyone is taping up their windows and doors to stop the chemicals from coming in. Also, she heard that families are supposed to pick one room and stay in there and have enough food and water for the duration. Obviously this is for if chemical warfare happens. It kinda freaked me out- I mean, its scary. Anyone else hear this on the news?

I honestly don't see how duct tape is going to help that much - gas can permeate through most other materials that houses are made of.

This is true. On The View, they recently showed a poster board with 9 pictures of "Saddam" on it and they all looked exactly like him but, as it turns out, only one of them was actually him. He has various houses and he never sleeps in the same place two nights in a row. He has three meals cooked daily at each house so that no one will be able to guess in advance which house he's headed for next. Kinda nutty

Duct tape and plastic ain't gonna do ***** if your neighborhood gets hit by a dirty bomb. If paint fumes can come through that stuff, so can deadly chemicals.

This country sucks a$$, you know that? But then where would I go? The whole world sucks.

yeah, I've heard about it. I don't think we're making a huge deal about it though. I don't know if we're going to do any of that over the weekend or anything, but right now we're not doing much. It is a little scary, and the threat level is orange I think which is really high. Are any of you scared that the draft might be reinstated? I'm not worried really, they aren't sending me to war.

That would make us too much like the enemy. He would die a hero to his people.

ditto...

but after american cit today....im not that freaked out because like my teacher said...if you were in one room and you covered all your windows and doors...air still comes in from outside through the vents...so you'd hafta cover those too, and if you did, you'd eventually kill yourself.

Boy, from "Duck and Cover" in the sixties, to "Duct Tape" in the 2003's! Now that's what I call progress. Go Government! ;) We're with ya all the way, baby! We'll see you when you pop out of your billion dollar luxury-bunkers to give us our next set of marching orders. That is if we survive in our $8.99. cent duct-tapeplastic bunkers.

lmao  I'm sorry, I know this is no laughing matter but that was hysterical! Unfortunately, it's true. We should all be so lucky as to get tucked away in an environment where our survival is pretty much guaranteed.

This is very true... but here is the deal with the plastic and duct tape.... I lived near a chemical plant (4 or 5 actually), and they were not the most reliable people...

You do have to live in a pretty airtight place for it to work...

You are supposed to chose a place in your home that is fairly airtight, with few windows and doors and stuff, like a basement or a bathroom....

You store all these supplies... meds you MUST have, drinking water (bottled of course, because chemicals will get into your water system), enough non-perishable food for 3 days for each person, a battery powered radio with extra batteries, a flash light with extra batteries, your duct tape and plastic. As soon as you realize something is wrong (the chemical company was supposed to sound an alarm in the case of an emergency, to let the community know, they'd had a spill or something), you "shelter-in-place."

You close the doors, shut the windows, turn off lights (I think) if the power isn't already off, turn off any outside ventilation, then cover all this with plastic and duct tape. Turn on the radio and listen for further instructions.... meaning a rescue, or what else you need to do; or for the all clear.

This is not, by any means supposed to be a permanent solution...it's supposed to keep you safe until a means of rescue or escape is possible.

Preparedness, in this day and age, is not necessarily a bad thing. They have advised (for years) anyone living near a chemical plant (including at least like a 50 mile radius) to have these things stored for emergencies. Not just people who live near the plants, but who live near railways and/or highways where there is a lot of chemical transport vehicle traffic.

That isn't to say, you should panic and buy thousands of dollars worth of food and store, or spend thousands of dollars on renovations for your home, or anything. You prepare for a test at school by studying, you prepare for work by getting an education.

No one foresaw 9/11, but was the building not built to withstand an airplane crash? ...or so they thought? People, unfortunately are evil.

They have succeeded in their mission of terrorism even if they never strike, because they have already instilled terror into the hearts of Americans.

As me if I've gone out and bought duct tape and plastic and my answer is no. Will I? Perhaps. But I won't live everyday in fear. They will not defeat me. That also, is a choice you have to make... will they win?

Are you trying to make me pee my pants? Then stop being so funny.

I wonder if George Dubya is sealing up the White House windows with plastic and fuct tape.

I mean it was so simple to figure out nothing was going to happen. Ok, say you were fanatical about the Y2K craze and had a cousin in Australia. So it's almost midnight here and you're freaking out, but you just talked to your cousin and everything's fine and dandy down there. So if nothing's wrong with the rest of the world, then nothing's going to happen here. Well they think it has to be midnight in America for it to go into affect. I swear it's pathetic how many young Americans think that we're the center of the universe and that everything revolves around us. I just wonder what's gong to happen when this youth become adults and running this country. Scary thought.
