UPN to End Kids Programming

UPN, as of Sept. 1, will no longer provide kid-targeted programming
to its affiliates, allowing UPN outlets to fill those hours with local
programming, Megan Larson reports.

UPN, which confirmed the move Wednesday, currently carries 12 hours of
Walt Disney-produced programming per week, which runs on weekdays and
Sunday mornings. From September 2002 to January 2003, UPN's ratings among
kid 2-11 on Sundays are down 13 percent, to a 1.3, and down 19 percent
among kids 6-11, to a 1.3.

Though never considered a large player in the kids marketplace, UPN's move
reduces the supply of kid offerings available, leaving ABC/Disney,
Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network and Kids WB the main sources for kids
entertainment.

CBS too. For those who don't have cable, new episodes and repeats of your fave Nick shows are on Saturday mornings on a new block called Nick On CBS (formerly Nick Jr. On CBS, CBS KidsShow, CBS Kids, CBS Saturday, etc.). I'll post a schedule later.

Will 1Too be on other affiliates in syndication this fall? Also, are syndicated channels aloud to air repeated syndicated cartoons like "Garfield & Friends", "Wacky World of Tex Avery", "Dennis the Menace", etc.? Because most of them are owned by The Program Exchange....

Although UPN no longer has an "official kids" timeslot- they still air various syndicated cartoon in the morning. My local station airs "Reeces," "Buzz Lightyear," "Tarzan," and oddly... "Transformers."

That's too bad. :(

But other than Tarzan, the rest of the lineup for last year was pretty boring.
