Let's see if we can figure this out. In season 2, we find Peter playing on a football team with no apparent objections from Carol. One season later, she gets paranoid when Greg tries out for football. One rib injury later, Carol goes ballistic and yanks Greg off the team (after Greg's failed pacification attempts on her). Fast foward two seasons later, and Greg is playing again (although we don't actually see him) with Carol remaining subdued throughout the whole episode (most likely for the sake of Tank Gates). Now, can anyone figure out the gist of Carol's varied emotions throughout this connection (Sorry, the Florence-Barry date story doesn't count)

Oh sure. Say poor job of the writers. That's an easy way out of the question! :p But yes, I prefer muddling through this with some logic. (Is that an oxymoron?) Okay, here we go:

Perhaps Carol thought that when Peter began playing it would only be touch football because she could not fathom young kids tackling. And when Greg wanted to start in high school, she flipped because she knows how high school football is serious business. And when he began playing again, maybe she just lightened up.

My theory isn't too bright, but then neither is Carol when it comes to football. One of the times football is mentioned on the show, Carol pretty much sums up her expertise on the subject. i.e. "We don't even know Joe Namath, do we Mike?" Anyone, who doesn't know the answer to that, might not know that Peter is wearing football gear because IT IS tackle football.

Is that why he didn't return? I thought it was the doctor's orders. But then that whole part confused me. I never understood why he thought he had to be the photographer for the rest of the season when the injury would heal before the end of it (as I remember, or at least assumed). I never saw Carol
put the kibosh on him playing or heard anything about her being the reason why he quit. Have I missed a line all these years about that?

LOL, gosh SITCOMGEEK, don't ya have a sense of humor? Of course it was the writers. I was joking. :p

But that's the whole point of these kinds of questions: to sort through the show and try and come up with some reasonable or not-so-reasonable (as my last post presented) ideas for a show's inconsistencies.

It helps me cope anyways. ;)
