View Full Version : Board Trends - what have you seen?
dlemond 02-04-2003, 05:27 PM Since I first signed on I've noticed them and obviously you all have too. So what are some of your favorite and least favorite trends and talk on the boards?
Here's what I have seen since I came on:
1. Chico and the Man - it seemed like there was a thousand posts a day about this show. That has stopped.
2. Golden Girls - Young girls seem to like this the best. On and on it went for a while there. Still active.
3. Facts of Life - All girls and some young boys all over this show, nonstop talk. Still one of the most active boards maybe because of....
4. Nancy McKeon - absoulte bizarre fascination with this actress, role model(?) and champion of Lifetime (a channel I've yet to locate on my cable box).
5. Happy Days (mafia) - Happy Days fans are miffed at Facts of Life success and start to take over as number 1 posted board.
6. BeBe Neuwirth devotees - this has gone, but was relentless for a few months.
7. Fights on Chit Chat - that has calmed down, but it was ugly for a while. Age shows more than ever on the boards.
8. Rainman - Apparently Nate likes K-Mart, PBS, and boys. We got it Nate. Down boy.

Nate and KMart. Hes always a subject of ours LOl.
I notice a lot of Avril Lavigne fans and haters. People here either like her or not. (Not Kristina).

Althought the Chico and the man devotees are still around (some of them) they haven't been posting as much so you're right.
What I noticed is What happened to the Fact of Life devoted fans? They're like Gone......... They were always posting...
Brian Damage 02-04-2003, 05:50 PM All the little gangs and cliques(Mafias) that have sprouted up, but seem to be dying down.
Happy Days is the hottest board on SO. Even surpassing Facts of Life.

Brian Damage 02-04-2003, 06:17 PM Gone with the Wind also seems to be very popular here on the boards.
Mossopp 02-04-2003, 06:29 PM There was a mad obsession with Kelly Osbourne for a while that now seems to have died down.
The 'smilies in jars' craze was also rather short-lived.

I think smiley people are just born that way. It's sort of a facial defect that they smile no matter how they feel. Gawd, I can't believe I'm actually analyzing Smilies. :D

Sean Snow 02-04-2003, 07:47 PM The smilies in the jar thing...that was 'revenge' of a sort lol from what I understand at least. *Shrug* Somone had been copying others so some people decided to copy her and put something from her siggy in their siggy and ask their friends. After TJ added it the smiley in a jar thing pretty much stopped.

There was a huge trend to bash "Cheers" just because Nick At Nite dropped "The Facts Of Life" and added "Cheers." In fact, I read some posts where some "Facts" fans fantasized about going to the Nick At Nite offices and opening gunfire on executives. Seriously. That's why I stopped posting for about nine months or so. I was waiting for the "I hate Cheers" hoopla to die down.

There are some rabid Friend's haters out there too. I'm not referring to those who just hate the show.
I mean those who get mad at people who do like it.

I agree. I seem to get a new obsession every other day. The only thing Ive liked longer than a year (there aint a lot!) is Happy Days and Laverne & Shirley. Also, Brady Bunch, etc.. TV is something Ill never get sick of. Also Britney Spears and oldies. I still love my Conan (and I was LMAO when he fell off his chair tonite!!!!!), but.. my love isnt as strong. *breaksdown*

To be honest, I was never a fan of "The Facts Of Life." I remember my mom would watch it when it originally aired, and I'd sit with her and watch it, too, if I didn't have anything better to do, but I was never a fan.
"Cheers," though, has been my favorite show for over ten years now. I like the writing, the ensemble, the fact that it stayed great despite its longevity; everything.

What's great about...
Person A
"I like creamed corn"
Person B
"Cats meow"
Person C
Quote from Person A: "I like creamed corn"
"I agree! Cabbage soup is great too!!!"
