View Full Version : A Good Read Janice 02-01-2003, 02:45 AM http://www.spiked-magazine.co.uk/spiked9/film.htm Kitt 02-06-2003, 05:12 PM "So many things. A crime story and a family drama. A gangster epic and a soap opera. One man’s journey and everybody’s troubles. Work and home. Past and present. Capitalism and criminality. Violence and humour. Money and morality." Yes it is a good read. That final paragraph sums up the show well. Remember when we discussed the season ending episode some of you were disappointed that there wasn't more mob related rub outs and so on. I mentioned that the writers did a good job of bringing into focus the Soprano family strife. I thought that they had been building that up and it needed to be addressed in a realistic way. Not to say I wouldn't have like to have seen some of the mob dilemas get worked out, but the family thing was really at an impasse. Brian Damage 02-07-2003, 05:12 PM I agree that they needed to address Tony's family life, however I think his business life is what intrigues a majority of people to this show. Yeah, me included. But there's room for both. His family life is a part of his business life. The purchase of the beach-front home and the ensuing dispute is a good example of how the two aspects coincide. And they managed to bring a lot of humour into that situation. The smart but compartatively whoosy attorney who seems to have overestimated his arm bending abilities trying to take on Tony was a riot. The attorney isn't part of Tony's mob world troubles, he was messing with Tony's family life. Tony showed him who he was f'ing with by employing his mob buddies to, of all things, play loud Dean Martin music at all hours. Hilarious! |
