Friends- I have never understood the apeal of this show. I've tried watching and it never makes me laugh. The plots are stupid, the writing and jokes are lame and repetitive, and the characters are not people I'd like to be friends with. If people like Friends, that's cool. I'll be watching something I enjoy.

I never cared for I Love Lucy. I can watch an episode here and there, but I don't really enjoy it. It's too slapstick, if that's the right word, for me. Yet it's a classic and people love it.
I don't hate it at all. I think the cast was extremely talented.
It just never pulled me in.

Hey Janice, I was all up in R. Kelly's business last night and I found out that he, like myself, feels The West Wing is just way too overated. (he prefers Teen Disney shows).

I know its a quality show, but it isn't this stuff of greatness that all the awards shows seem to want to make it. I don't see the appeal and it's not my cup of tea.

 Good one dlemond. I've never missed an episode of The West Wing, but I'm thinking of throwing in the towel. It's gotten so political that I can't keep up with the dialogue anymore. There's barely any personal story to it. It also took a nosedive in the hunk quotient with the loss of Rob Lowe.
I still tape it every week, but watching it feels more like a chore these days.

MASH - I just never understood the appeal. I HAVE watched it, I just don't overall like it. It's so boring. Sorry to the fans who like it.

That's about it, I guess. I dont really feel I can pass judgement on Friends, etc. I HAVE watched, I laugh at them, but they're not favorites of mine, I wouldn't call them overrated I guess, LOL. I dunno.

I dont think any show is really over rated - if one person doesn't like it, it doesnt suit their taste then it will for someone else. I LOVE LOVE LOVE Friends and Will and Grace but you could not PAY my boss to watch them. She likes things like American Idol - something I have no interest in and don't really "get". Doesn't mean it's overrated.

Did I make any sense? I dunno.

The most overrated shows:

~ The Andy Griffith Show
TV Land practical praises this show by running it to the ground twice in the evening every day since 2000.

~ All In The Family / Archie Bunker's Place
Everyone seems to make a big deal on how this show "changed" television. Yes it did but for the worse . . .

~ Gilligan's Island
TV Land runs the episodes way too often. They go through the entire series like in one month or less.

ANYTHING Reality- Survivor, American Idol, Star Search, Fear Factor...the list is WAY too long.

Practically all of NBC's lineup, comedies and dramas.

The Beverly Hillbillies- I swear people were hard up for something to watch back then for them to make this so popular. :p

Green Acres- Just too damn annoying.

Andy Griffith- I just think it's boring. Worse TV can be found though.

Any successful westerns.

The Jeffersons- too much yelling. Same reason I'm not a huge fan of All In The Family but I wouldn't call that overrated. And well, w/o it, Archie Bunker's Place wouldn't exist and that show I like.

For current shows it's a tie among Big Brother, CSI, Fear Factor, Friends, The Simpsons, and anything on MTV or HBO.

For past shows it's a tie between Cheers and Married ... with Children.

The Beverly Hillbillies and The Brady Bunch are overrated?! Is "0" too high? (I didn't know we could use negative numbers!)

Sex And The City
Have yet to find what's so brilliant and funny about a bunch of slutty 30 and 40 somethings finding excuses to sleep around and ues the C-word. I watch it when nothing else is on but it is annoying.

I agree. I also don't see what's so cool about The Sopranos.

I agree. I watched an episode over a friend's house once, just to see what all the hype is about. All I can say is: :barf:

When it comes to overrated shows 90 % in my mind come from the 1990's. I can't name two that I have watched.

I agree about Sex and the City.
Absolutely stole the Emmy's from more deserving shows.
It still makes me po'd to think of it. ;)

"Everybody Loves Raymond" - Funny, but not the best
"The West Wing" - Aaron Sorkin abandoned his great series "Sportsnight" to concentrate on this drama, so I have a personal grudge against this show.
"CSI and CSI Miami" - Whatever city the show is based in, I just don't see what all the fuss is about
"NYPD Blue" - Never understood why they were so pround to display Dennis Franz's butt at the drop of the hat.
"Sex In The City" - Ditto what MeganMullallyFan said.

;)
