Sorry if this has been discussed here already, but are the viewers ever told how Mike and Carol Brady met or given any details about their courtship?

I have seen every episode of the series and read most of the books about it, and as far as I can tell, no one ever said how Mike and Carol met. Sherwood Schwartz proposed telling that story for ABC, which had wanted the original pilot extended to a 90-minute tv movie, but ABC wanted the pilot, as it was, stretched out to 90 minutes, rather than having any more background information about how the Bradys met. Schwartz passed on the idea, saying that it would be a dull movie taking 90 minutes to say what was said in a 30-minute pilot, so ABC passed on the pilot until Yours, Mine, and Ours came out a couple years later. It's too bad the pilot wasn't made that way. It would've made an interesting story and could've been syndicated as a separate 90-minute tv movie.

Thanks for the information jehobden. I agree that it would have been great to see more background information on the couple and the family as a whole. It would have made a good movie.

I picture them meeting on a blind date.

They never even talked about their past spouses. From what I recall, Bobby and the boys did have a picture of their mom when they were getting ready for Mike and Carol's wedding. But Carol's husband was not mentioned at all. It was even joked about in he movie "the Very Brady Sequel". Practically we know next to nothing about Mike and Carol's old lives.
