View Full Version : What video capturing device do you use?
pandora_spocks 01-30-2003, 08:08 PM I'm just curious to see what video capturing devices you use. I currently have an Adaptec VideOh!, but it's the older model that came with the software 'Clipview'. Works great with Win 95, 98, and ME, but I have a problem with the software. Everytime I try to set it up on Win XP the program comes up and says 'Works with Windows 95' and shuts the setup window off by itself. I also can't seem to get the device itself to work with programs like Ulead Mediastudio 6 and Windows Movie Maker. Any suggestions on how I might fix this or any other capturing tools I can use with XP? I prefer programs that allow me to capture Mpegs, not avi's. I'm not really into watching the tube on my computer just looking for a simple hook up to the vcr so I can capture stuff for VCDs.
ChrisFergusonFl 01-30-2003, 08:10 PM I use WinTV2000!

What's that? Is that for watching your tv on your computer and also allows captures?
pandora_spocks 01-30-2003, 08:14 PM This is what I have. Works wonderful, except for the Windows XP flaw.

Oh, I'm not too fond of those kind. We used to have one and it had poor reception. I still have some pics that I took. I have this one of Liz from the 'Bewitched Be-Wednesday' marathon on Nick at Nite.
ChrisFergusonFl 01-30-2003, 09:29 PM Can you remove one of the pics and some quotes in your sig? I thought we could only have 2 pics in our sigs?
Rhiannon 01-30-2003, 09:29 PM I don't think have anything

 I use to do that! I still have a couple pics of Elizabeth that I took while I was watching Bewitched on the Hallmark channel. My computer doesn't reach the living room so I improvised! :D
dawsongirl 01-30-2003, 11:03 PM I have my Snappy and I'm pleased. It's not for video like you're talking about, but it makes nice pictures. Except that my battery's dead.
I took this picture. :D Well, and a lot more, but yeah...

WHAT KIND OF CAMERA?!?!?!?!

It's not a camera. It attaches onto the printer port in the back of your computer. You plug on end into the video out connection on your TV, VCR, DVD player, etc, and the other end into the Snappy and just push snap. I got it for $13 at CompUSA.com.

I have a snappy too. I got it before I got the VideOh!. I really don't like it. It doesn't take good pics to me. My VideOh! takes good pics and good videos. I usually enhance my photos in Photoshop though. The two pics of Liz in my sig were taken with my VideOh! and I edited them and enhanced them though. I recommend VideOh! to anyone. There's a new one out that you can make dvds with, but I can't afford it. :( But if anyone does get the new one can I have a copy of the software? Perhaps, my old one will work with the new software.
I should add the fact that I'm really picky! :happyface
TV Favorites 01-31-2003, 01:39 AM I've got a good old snappy too...here's an example picture from "Match Game PM" that I took just now.

Love the pic, TV Favorites!
TVJunkie101 01-31-2003, 05:46 PM I use Studio PCTV Pro ( http://www.pinnacle.com ). It works great, completely customizable (is that a word?) it allows you to be able to make videoclips (in mpeg, avi, or real media) and it's very easy to use. I really like it. I've had it for about going on 2 years (I'm pretty sure, I've had it since May 2001), well, this May it will be 2 years, lol. BUT, there is a downside. The TV viewer, where you can take pics and stuff, shuts down every so often. You gotta restart the comp. but other than that, it works great. It was a bit expensive though. It takes forever to capture things on video, which is why I probably won't be making VCDs anytime soon. I just bought an ATI card, but it doesn't work. My graphics card isn't compatible, and I think I need to spend a hundred bucks for a new one, not something I really can afford right now, so it's collecting dust on my shelf, LOL. Anyone with an ATI, could you help? LOL.
TVJunkie101 01-31-2003, 05:49 PM You can also hook up an S Video connection, or a/v cables or a standard coaxiable cable. Really handy too.
Anyway, here is a pic from Underdog (LOL, I know...) I took a few days ago.

That looks really good. You can hook up the VideOh! with S-Video too. I guess I just can't get away from my Adaptec VideOh!. I need the new software that comes with it that's compatable with XP.

pandora_spocks 02-02-2003, 02:39 AM I found an old pic I took with that TV turner thing I once had. I didn't do anything to it. Thats how it came out when I captured it.

And here is a pic I took with my Adaptec VideOh! I didn't enhance this one like the ones in my sig.
TVJunkie101 02-02-2003, 10:23 AM The second one definitely looks much better.

I know. I don't know what was wrong with that TV Turner thing I had.
dawsongirl 02-02-2003, 04:22 PM I gotta find a pic like your second one, except with Richard. Nice face shot and the like...to send with my letter. I own enough stuff, you'd think I'd figure this out by now.
Sean Snow 02-02-2003, 04:41 PM I use an Intel PC Digital Camera. I hook it up to the back of my VCR/DVD to take screen captures. It works very well. I can't use it on my computer because it has XP, but I have an older computer that is in my room that I use it on. Even if XP let it work, it wouldn't be able to reach the VCR. Anyways, I love taking screen captures. It especially helps with websites.
Here is a screen capture I've taken with it:

That pic doesn't look that bad, and it sure beats holding the digital camera up at the tv and taking pics.
