Naturally there was a lot of protestation going on from certain parties but (to the best of my knowledge, cos I didn't actually watch it) it was broadcast anyway "in the name of science". Personally I feel it was done just to shock and provoke a reaction from the public but I don't care. That's one of the main things I like about British television - we can get away with just about anything! It blows my mind that you can't even swear on TV in America! Kay Scarpetta 01-28-2003, 04:04 PM I wish I saw that autopsy thing..... It could come in handy for a future medical examiner Babes_Cat 01-28-2003, 04:14 PM :eek2: Babes_Cat 01-28-2003, 04:15 PM Originally posted by Mossopp I dunno about the baby-eating thing but someone did an autopsy live on British TV a few months ago. I guess we have some decency and good taste left, not to show such depravity masquerading as "art." Considering that one of the USA's founding principles was freedom of speech! It is funny. It's also completely insane when you think about it. America is so adament that you can't have swearing, sex or violence on TV lest it influence the youth and yet the USA is the most violent and messed-up place in the western world! You sure as hell don't have kids going to school with guns in the UK! I don't wanna get into a huge debate about the differences in the social climate between the US and the UK but it's just so messed up in your country that it makes my head spin sometimes. E N T E R T A I N M E N T S T O R Y RELATED LINKS » Subscribe to INL Archives Britain's Channel 4 to show artist eating baby LONDON: A television station has defended a show in which a Chinese performance artist apparently eats a dead baby, calling it a "thought-provoking film about extreme art in China". Channel 4, which upset viewers with a dissection of a human corpse last month, plans to air the documentary in which artist Zhu Yu shows off photographs of himself washing a dead stillborn baby in a sink and putting its dismembered parts in his mouth. Politicians and media critics have condemned the plans but the Broadcasting Standards Commission said it could not address a programme before it was shown. In a preview provided to Reuters, Zhu is also shown having a piece of his own body grafted on to a pig. He describes his work as expressing his Christian faith, saying: "Jesus is always related to death, blood, wounds, etc." The show's presenter, a Sunday Times newspaper art critic, calls the work "suffering for your art on a messianic scale". He added: "I expected to be horrified by him, but I found him peaceful, monastic and even charming. When the cameras were switched off he admitted he'd vomited twice before going through his baby performance. But it was crucial to do it, so he forced himself." The presenter, who interviews the artist in his apartment, calls him "China's most notorious contemporary cannibal", and says he actually ate the baby's flesh. A spokesman for Channel 4 said the programme, which airs on Thursday at 11pm, will carry warnings that viewers may be alarmed and noted the hour complies with rules banning material unsuitable for children before 9pm "The images appear in the context of an intelligent and thought-provoking film about extreme art in China", he said. ¤I Love Clay Aiken¤ 01-29-2003, 12:21 AM Ew.
