Did they have the draft in England during this time?

Yes, they had the draft at this time.
Although I want to take this opportunity to point out what I have pointed out many times before to my American friends on this board -
it is BRITAIN - NOT England!!!!!
England is part of Britain, yes. But so is Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. It annoys me no end when foreigners call me English cos they think that England constitutes the whole of Britain.
DawsonGirl - it was Britain who fought in the War - not just England.

yeah i think they did too....I read that Vivien Leigh was drafted into a millitary job but got out of it by signing another contract

So do I. I didn't in high school though when it might have helped my history grade.
