If you twist and turn away
If you tear yourself in two again
If you could, yes I would, if I could, I would
let it go
Surrender
Dislocate
If I could throw this lifeless lifeline to the wind
I'd lead your heart away
See you walk away, walk away
into the night, and through the rain
into the half-light, and through the flame
If I cut through myself, set your spirit free
I'd lead your heart away, see you break
break away, into the light
into the day
hoo hoo hoo hoo hooo--
hoo hoo hoo hoo hooo--
So let it go, and so to find a way
to let it go, and so to find away
I'M WIDE AWAKE
I'M WIDE AWAKE
I'M WIDE AWAKE
I'M WIDE AWAKE
I'm not sleeping.
If you should ask, then maybe they'd tell
you what I should say
True colors fly in blue and black
through silken sky and burning flag
True colors crash, collide in bloodshot eyes
If I could, you know I would, I would let it go...
This desparation
dislocation
separation
condemnation
revelation
in temptation
isolation
desolation
LET IT GO
AND GO FIND A WAY
TO LET IT GO
AND SO TO FIND A WAY
TO LET IT GO
I'M WIDE AWAKE
I'M WIDE AWAKE
I'M WIDE AWAKE
I'm not sleeping.
Come on down
come on down
come on down

--U2
Is it getting better
or do you feel the same?
Will it make it easier on you
Now you got someone to blame
You say
One love, one life
When it's one need in the night
It's one love, we get to share it
It leaves you, baby, if you don't care for it
Did I disappoint you?
Or leave a bad taste in your mouth?
You act as if you never had love
And you want me to go without
Well, it's too late tonight
To drag the past out into the light
We're one, but we're not the same
We get to carry each other, carry each other
ONE
Have you come here for forgiveness?
Have you come to raise the dead?
Have you come to play Jesus
To the lepers in your head?
Did I ask too much, more than a lot
You gave me nothing, now it's all I got
We're one, but we're not the same
We hurt each other then we do it again
You say
Love is a temple, love a higher law
Love is a temple, love a higher law
You ask me to enter, but then you make me crawl
And I can't be holding on
When all you got is hurt
One love, one blood
One life, you got to do what you should
One life with each other
Sisters, brothers
One life, but we're not the same
We get to carry each other, carry each other
ONE
ONE

ABlairican Pie 02-07-2003, 12:13 AM 403. "JEREMY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" --PEARL JAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :guitar: :guitar:  This is one of the most suprising choices on this list, because...as cool as it is, does Pearl Jam qualify as a "Classic Rock" band??
I think the beginning of the Classic Rock Era would have to come at the arrival of the Beatles and the British Invasion in 1964. The cut-off period would most likely be around the fall of 1991 with the arrival of Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Seattle "grunge" and alternative bands supplanting "pop" metal and other genres in the early '90's. Even though Pearl Jam's "Ten" album came out in 1991, and though they often sound "retro", the rise of Pearl Jam was the BEGINNING of a new trend and sound in rock that continues till now.
402. "Shattered" --the Rolling Stones

383. "Gimme All Your Lovin'" --ZZ Top
382. "INSTANT KARMA!!!!!!!!!!!" --JOHN LENNON!!!!!!!!!!!!! Did this song need to be used in some commercial years ago?? Spoils the purity of the song by making it into a commercial jingle to sell stuff...
381. "TUESDAY AFTERNOON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" --THE MOODY BLUES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love this song, it's so happy and beautiful.
380. "Even the Losers" --Tom Petty:cool:

377. "HOLLYWOOD NIGHTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" --BOB SEGER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :guitar: THIS SONG ROCKS!!!!! AND IT'S ABOUT THE COOLEST PLACE IN THE WORLD!!!
376. "Tequila Sunrise" --the Eagles. I wasn't the hugest Eagles fan in the world, even though they had good rockin' songs, but
even good country rocks harder than this. It seemed that in the 70's, there were just too many radio-friendly country-soft rock songs out there. I think it WAS all a prefabricated plan to make
Black Sabbath, KISS, and Rush all that much more cooler.:D
375. "AIN'T THAT A SHAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" --CHEAP TRICK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :guitar: At the second concert I ever saw, KISS in 1977, they opened up with the GOOFIEST lookking band in the world, Cheap Trick. Two guys (Robin Zander
and Tom Peterson) looked pretty hip, but what was with the knucklehead with the SHORT hair and baseball cap on guitar, and the tubby nerd with glasses on drums?? Why, Rick Nielson and Bun E. Carlos, who else, and they were WILD!!! Rick hopped around with his guitar, running around the stage spitting out guitar picks, and Bun E. pounded his drum kit with huge long drumsticks--AMAZING!!!!!!! I can STILL remember the songs they played--and they were GREAT!!!!! Catchy songs that stand the test of time. All that half & half cool/geek thing really worked well, even my older brother and his friend were impressed. I saw them a year later opening for Ted Nugent with AC/DC!!!!! Weeks later after seeing them open for KISS, I was at it, taking my guitar and imitating Rick Nielson's moves right in front of the t.v. airing The New Mickey Mouse Club with Lisa on it...if she saw that, she WOULD HAVE BEEN impressed as well!!!!:D
374. "Bargain" --the Who. Another great song that did NOT need to be turned into a car commercial jingle.
373. "It's Only Rock And Roll" --the Rolling Stones

Now you guys know I LOVE Nirvana, but these guys are by no means "classic rock." I won't deny for a second that "smells like teen spirit" is a awesome, killer, absolutely great song. But it is NOT classic rock. Did people vote for stuff to be on this list? If so, they need to take a closer look at what countdown they were voting on. I dont consider anything from the late 80's and the 90's classic rock. Geez people. Get it together!

I thought the KISW list was very different from the way they usually had it in years past, when they made it much like this one with KZOK. KISW's list in December contained a lot of good L.A. pop-metal songs (I don't like to call it "hair" metal), but they over-saturated it with Metallica and clusters of "nu-metal" bands, etc., all in a row. Anyone notice they had about 5 Tool songs back to back? Same with Red Hot Chili Peppers. They overkilled it with
"flavor-of-the-month" nu-metal, punk-pop, etc. and didn't play enough Classic Rock artists, like the Doors, etc. In this past year KISW really pandered to the young crowd. I wonder what it's gonna be like this year.
I AM suprised at the inclusion of Pearl Jam, Nirvana, and Queensryche on KZOK's list!!

Speaking of which, I remember seeing the video to the cover of this song by Hanoi Rocks back in 1984, and their version was okay, but their lead singer Michael Monroe had some great moves onstage in the video. They could have been a great band in the States (they were a glam metal "sleaze" band from Finland) if Vince Neil of Motley Crue wasn't stupid enough to drive drunk and kill his passenger, HR drummer Razzle, in a car wreck... :( But hey, we're talking about CCR, here, right?

The first was for "Tattooed Love Boys" and I was hooked!!! :guitar: That song rocked. On songs like "Kid", I was amazed how good of a guitar player James Honeyman-Scott was. Too bad he died two years later due to drugs.:( "Back on the Chain Gang" was written in his memory. At that time of his death, Chrissie Hynde kicked bassist Pete Farndon's ass out for using drugs, and HE TOO died from a drug overdose!! The Pretenders have had some great songs over the years. No you're right. I remember it now. I really just think that the whole rap thing kinda threw off the song a little bit, but that's just my opinion. It was cool though, how Aerosmith would do a duet like that.

This is a great song. I prefer the anthology version. I like the simpler versions of songs.
I don't think "My Sweet Lord" is that bad.. definately not as bad as you're making it out to be.

I dunno, I wasn't really too hot about that opening guitar part that goes NaNEERNearneaaar... down a couple steps...Notes that just didn't seem to fit for me...but as a song praising the Lord Krishna, it's pretty good...
ABlairican Pie 02-16-2003, 05:32 PM 29. "Purple Haze" --Jimi Hendrix:cool: :guitar: Did you know this song was NOT his only #1 song??

25. "I STILL HAVEN'T FOUND WHAT I'M LOOKING FOR" --U2  I've heard a lot of "Christians" rag on this song because it lacks "resolution"--"how does a Christian like Bono NOT find what they're looking for in life?"--but that's the whole point, we can go through the whole deal, the highs and lows and everything else and even though we THINK we've reached that blessed point of arrival--we still haven't found the thing we're looking for...
ABlairican Pie 02-16-2003, 05:41 PM 24. "Locomotive Breath" --Jethro Tull
23. "Funeral For a Friend" --Elton John
22. "Carry On Wayward Son" --Kansas:cool: :guitar: This is a song like "I Still Haven't Found..." where the person THINKS he has found what he's looking for and is actually quite clueless. "And if I claim to be a wise man, it surely means that I don't know..."  Interesting reading the autobiography of Kerry Livgren who played guitar in Kansas and wrote their lyrics, he said ran the gamut of every Eastern religion and thought he knew all--but when a member of the opening band Laroux presented him with Christian beliefs, he was VERY skeptical and didn't want to deal with it...a very interesting story
what happened by that time...

laceyinthesky 02-17-2003, 10:42 PM Aww, comeon, Cap. What's number 1???
GoldenGuy 02-18-2003, 12:44 AM I'm pretty sure it's Stairway to Heaven. It hasn't been mentioned yet and it's always number one. This has been a GREAT list. Gold Dust woman making #39 made my day. And Oh well making #39 was an even bigger shock. That BLEW me away.
britt britt 02-18-2003, 02:44 PM OMG! I can't believe I just looked at this post now! whats wrong with me!? LOl. all those mac and stevie songs are awesome!!! everytime I saw one I was like YAAAY! This is sooo cool! I wonder who # 1 is.. hmmm.
ABlairican Pie 02-18-2003, 06:51 PM 1. "STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" --LED ZEPPELIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :guitar: :guitar:  :notworthy :notworthy
If it were "You Light Up My Life", by Debby Boone, there would've been hell to pay!!!!!
britt britt 02-18-2003, 07:24 PM Cool!! GoldenGuy was right!
ABlairican Pie 02-18-2003, 10:08 PM The one thing I'm disappointed with is that they only had ONE song by Black Sabbath and Guns 'N' Roses on there....when both bands are classic rock staples...Even though it's still hard to think of G n' R as classic rock...

ABlairican Pie 02-18-2003, 10:15 PM Seeing everyone loved these song lists (especially the one from KZOK), I'm now wondering if we wanna do something ELSE with songs, like make our OWN list of top 1000 songs of all time, top 1000 heaviest songs of all time, top 1000 songs of the 80's, etc.
Something interesting and fun. Anyone have any ideas???
