My husband and I have a bet about where Gilligan's Island was taped. He says it was at a studio. (It says that at the end of the episodes). But what about the water scenes? Can anyone help settle this bet? Loser has to do dishes for a week. http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/smile.gif

The actual island that was Gilligans Island is off the coast of Maui. I can't remember for sure but I seem to remember when we were in Maui a guide told us the island is where the show was shot, at least some of the scenes.
A Studio location seems more reasonable tho.

My parents have actually visited the site where Gilligan's Island was filmed. It's on the shores of a lake -- right next to a major highway! It was not filmed on an actual beach though. I will have to ask my parents again exactly where it was located -geographically speaking. I will get back to you once I find out.
Your husband was right. It was filmed in a studio. It was done with back-then-tricky-photography. So, I'm so sorry, but get to scrubbing.

I'm not sure, but I think I heard somewhere that the pilot was filmed on an actual island, but the show was filmed at the studio (I don't know where I heard or read this)

"No, Professor, the grenade flew through the air"
-Skipper
"With the greatest of ease, the grenade made us get down on our knees"

The show was filmed at the C.B.S. studio
center, the actual lagoon was next to the
Hollywood freeway, and the pilot was filmed
at the island of Kaui in Hawaii.
