View Full Version : Pick Up Guys?
¤I Love Clay Aiken¤ 01-23-2003, 05:25 PM Ok.. me & Amanda are having boy problems LOl. The problem? We dont have one. Ok, we're only 19 years old, but I mean, times a wasting and our youth is fading! I remember being 13 and watching TV shows and I thought.. Oh! When I turn 16 Im going to be on dates every weekend! Ya.. not one date. Ever. We wanna meet guys, but we dont go to school- nor do we have any desire to. Especially to pick up guys. So... what are some places where we can meet guys? We were gonna do bowling each week for it, and we did it lastnite. Like I was complaining before, we picked up a 5 year old kid. And all the other guys were like in their 40s and in leagues. Ugh, and we were surrounded by 13 and 14 year old girls jumping and screaming. Anyways, her mother said rollerskating. 1, I dont skate, and 2. I dont know too many guys older than 21 who skate. So... any ideas?:D We're desperate!!! LOl
Chad22 01-23-2003, 05:39 PM Yeah, I Know how that feels. Im 16 and i have never hade a date either, Yet my friend Jacob has one like every week.

I hate the mall with a passion LOl. Why? Because only teenyboppers go there and act like theyre soo cool. Its annoying. Plus, all the guys there I see are either with someone, or wear their pants halfway down to their ass. Ya.. New Hampshire Thugs..
Titania 01-23-2003, 07:01 PM hmm i dunno, there are lots of places..
i highly recommend military academy dances
parties, clubs, the mall, through friends, i dunno, just anywhere. but watch who you go on dates with, or double w/ a friend, cause yeah, no offense to the guys on here, but you cant be too careful.
good luck!

Thanks! Ya LOl. Well, theres a club for under 21 called The Ozone, but yea.. its so stupid. Its all these 15 year olds grinding. I cant wait til Im 21 and can go to the bar.
¤I Love Clay Aiken¤ 01-23-2003, 07:05 PM Meangya. Double post. My bad.
dawsongirl 01-23-2003, 07:05 PM Well I'm 23 and I've never really had a date either. Those two dance dates I don't count.
And forget school anyway. I've been there 4 1/2 years and picked up no one.

Ya, if I do go to school, itd be like a beauty school. Mostly girls LOl.
CollegeGirl 01-23-2003, 08:14 PM Hmmmm.....good question. I would NOT recommend roller skating rinks unless you want a nerd....nor, bowling allies (cool people no longer hang out there, or if they do, it's because they're with someone). Malls are out. The only guys you'd want who would be at the mall is probably only there because he's with his girlfriend. Most guys in this area, at least, don't enjoy shopping unless they're trying to impress someone of the female gender.
Good places? Anywhere where there is something to do with sports: football, baseball, basketball. You don't have to know anything about sports. Just smile, nod occasionally, make your eyes sparkle and pretend you know exactly what he's talking about. By the time he asks your opinion, you'll have learned enough by listening to say something that at least makes sense. But, I'm great at bluffing. I never know what I'm talking about, so I've had lots of experience with this. You don't have to go to a club to meet guys. In fact, I've been told that it probably isn't adviseable to go to clubs to hook up with guys, as most of these guys want only one thing and are back out looking for another girl by the next week. There are sports bars/restaurants that let underage people in. I'd advise you to go to one of these with your friends, and strike up small talk with whoever you see who is cute. Act confident, as that is always pleasing to guys....as long as it's not overdone, which quickly takes a nosedive into looking conceited.
The odd part, is that when I was 18 or 19, I was incredibly shy and awkward around people. I wanted a guy, too, because that just so seemed the thing to do. I used to get so down on myself because I didn't have one. Slowly, all my friends got engaged and married. A few months ago, I really started feeling like an old maid. Then, my last girlfriend got engaged, and I was like, "Let's face it, I'm hopeless." But, then I started looking at the endless amount of possibilites that I have and they are giving up. I can pick up and go whenever I want. I do things spontaneously. My friends can't because their boyfriends/husbands whine that they don't want them to go. I can go out with multiple guys and girls whenever I want. and I find it so exhilirating to be able to flirt and not worry about it. I have gotten so many dates by just goofing off with guys and not worrying about impressing them. In fact, guys seem to be more impressed when girls aren't trying to impress them, and rather just act normal.
But, don't worry. I never had a date until I was like 20. I was so shy around guys, that I never knew how to act around them. And I was never a confident person at all. I would see a cute guy and say, "Oh, he wouldn't be interested in someone like me." And, the fact that I was raised by super strict parents didn't make things any easier.
Yah, I'm still shy around guys. I don't have dates lined up every weekend. But, I find that since I'm no longer worried about finding dates, I am more relaxed. I have fun flirting and just hanging out with guys. I have gotten more dates than I did when I was younger. But, it took me a long time to get to this point. As I get older, I'll get more bolder, hopefully.
NOTE: DON'T PICK UP GUYS ON THE INTERNET. That's a scary thing....veeeery scary. While, I've met some really cool guys online and became friends, I've also run across some pretty scary ones. You never know who a guy is. It's always best to find a guy who someone you know knows well.
But, you have to be careful with any guy. I seem to draw some pretty creepy guys, as well. Now, I'm like, "I need to see your credentials, please. Where do you work? Where do you live? What type of background do you have?" I personally won't date guys who don't have college degrees or are at least working on a degree. I have a whole list of other qualifications, too. I know that sounds really vain and shallow, but I can't help it. Maybe it's just the weird experiences I've had/ strange guys I've run across. I don't think I'd ever want a guy who was in the same field as me, either. Guys in my English curriculum are friends, and I think they should stay that. We exchange phillosophies/ideas about literature and stuff.
AnaheimPMWitch 01-24-2003, 01:35 AM Hmm Lets see Church and through Family and Friends has worked best for me

Ah! That made me feel so much better CG! Ya, Im kinda shy. I asked one kid to my prom, got turned down- it took guts LOl. Sports... well, we hate sports, but thats a good idea- Ill tell her!:D The internet.. yea, thatd be kinda freaky- not unless I met the guy in a public place with someone else, but Im not about to look for guys over the internet. Although, LOl, Amandas cousin Joey met someone online and now theyre married and have a baby- but that doesnt happen everyday. Ya, Ill just take it one day @ a time LOl.. Im just getting a lil impatient.
Hollow 01-24-2003, 02:11 AM Theres barely ne guys at my school cuz its so small. :( theres guys that are my homeys but i wouldnt go out w/ em...theres a guy i was kinda going out w/ last year but he graduated so i cant wait to see him next year :)
JoJoJoJoJoJoJoJoJo 01-24-2003, 09:52 AM ok, this will sound EXTREMELY dorky, but what works best for me is talking to guys online... like, my friend boyfriend has a friend that she thought would be perfect for me.. so she gave him my screen name and he IM'd me one day and we just started talking... we talked for about a month and I gave him my phone number... talked over the phone for a couple of months, then we met.. we're dating now, so it works for me. I guess meeting them through friends is how i've met the majority of my boyfriends... also, if you get the right job, you can meet guys through work
