On the website at www.thefutoncritic.com, you'll find that he has reconsidered his decision to re-open it. But, with a catch: You will have to wait until March 3rd, 2003. At least its re-opening because that is a great site!!!
Heres the note:
Okay, consider myself officially swayed. And here's the moment that pushed me over: I was reading about ABC's nine pilot pickups the other day and wanted to check out the network's complete development slate. Problem is, I'd normally scan The Futon Critic's listings, since as far as I know there's not an extensive list online (Hollywood Reporter doesn't publish their grids for another month or so). So didn't that create an interesting situation? Then it hit me: I forgot how much The Futon Critic helps organize my own TV nerdness. So then it just started snowballing from there thanks to all your letters: ratings, Showatch, the calender, DVD listings, all of that stuff actually helps me (and apparently you kind readers) make sense of the hurricane that is the TV business.
With that in mind, I'm happy to say The Futon Critic will return. But as I said before I really need this time off to concentrate on other things. So I'm going to stick by the previous deadline: Monday, March 3 as our return date. By then all the other crazy balls I have in the air should be settled. And since, judging by your letters, some of you are curious about what I'm working on in the business itself, I'll give you a little sneak preview of that stuff then as well.
There will of course be some changes in that I have to scale back some of the features of the site. I'll go into more detail when the site returns what they are but suffice it to say, the favorites of the site: ratings, Showatch, DVD listings, and the calendar aren't going anywhere so no worries on those fronts. Anyway, thanks again for all your support. You've made this guy realize that he needs The Futon Critic.
