I have been watching cheers every day on paramount in the Uk for the last year having seen all the episodes give or take a few, I have a question though, when did Ted Danson decide to leave?quite clearly in the last season there were several stories that led me to believe that more series were in the pipeline:
1. Lilith left to have a baby and would probably expected to come back for series 12 the following year or she would have stayed in the eco=pod.
2. Woody's baby/city council was never really left to it's final conclusion, it was a relatively new story thread.
3. The new storylines about Rebecca and her new husband and Sam and his sex complusion group were started very late in the series, however I feel that these were for the benefit of the final episode as were the Norm job and cliff promotion story.

Please take the time to reply as it would shed a new perspective on the final series.

*confused* Wait, what? Lilith didn't leave to have a baby? Bebe decided her time at Cheers was up and she wanted to go back to theatre, her first love. I don't believe she was aware that "Cheers" would only have a season left after she left, or I'd assume she would have stuck it out one more season. She obviously agreed to come back for an ep, to end the series with the Frasier/Lilith fans happy they reunited. However, it also wasn't planned that there would be a "Frasier" spinoff until right up to the very end of "Cheers." I doubt that Lilith would have come back at ALL had they planned the sequel, because Lilith was never part of the sequel idea. SO, it was pretty stupid that they reunited, only to be divorced by the time of the "Frasier" pilot. Such is life.

I still don't know where the baby thing came from? Please enlighten me?

The writers weren't counting on a new season, they were working on the assumption that season eleven was going to be the last (I remember seasons ten and nine were also going to be the show's last, but both years, the show was saved at the zero hour when NBC offered them more money per episode.

Fast forward ten years... sound familiar?

I assumed she was having a baby as it is unuasual for someone to leave a series halfway through, especially after such a dramatic and hugely consequential storyline, which still had some mileage left in it.

Well, there was a storyline where Frasier and Lilith were planning on having a second child. However, nothing became of it.

I remember hearing the summer before the last season started that it would be the last because Ted Danson was leaving the show. :(
