View Full Version : I personally think there should be a rule against...
Chocoholic 01-22-2003, 02:52 PM I wish there was a rule against customers coming into stores and acting really rude, nasty, and even abusive to the store employees. There is no need for it! If I was rude to a customer, I would be reprimanded or fired. Rude customers ought to be kicked out of the store, in my opinion.

The people who bug me the most are the ones who get all upset about things that are definitely not my fault or are beyond my control. I had a woman get all upset at me one time because she had an outstanding balance or something on her credit card and it wouldn't go through. She acted like it was MY fault! Another time, I accidentally rang up an item twice (It was a heavy item and I had trouble scanning it.) I apologized and called my supervisor over to void it out. The woman told the supervisor I was an idiot and they did a horrible job training me.
Don't they realize we're only human and therefore, capable of making mistakes?

They made you yell at them? I mean they were 10, do you really think they know what loitering means?
Will and Grace Fanatic 01-22-2003, 03:29 PM I know what you mean, I worked at an Albertson's a national grocery store. And this customer wanted a pack of cigarettes so I rung them up and she looked at them and told me that they were a complimentry pack and by law and can't sell them to customers. So I got another pack that didn't say that on it. And she told me that the first pack was free because it said complimentry pack. I said no we will send those back and the company will send us packs we can sell. You see only if we offered her that pack it would be free but she just took it. Then I called a manager up and she told him the pack was free because of the complimentry label on it. He told her the same thing I did and then she said I never said the pack was free. She was lying. She made this big scene and started yelling at me in the manager. So I got back in her face and told her not to be swearing and yelling when there are children in the store. She got pissed and said she was never coming in this store again. Now you have to understand I would have never gotten in her face. But I only have 2 two days till I was gone. I had put in my 2 weeks notice. So I decided only 2 days left I'm gonna get in her face back.

I agree. If I make a mistake, point it out nicely and I will make sure it is corrected. There's no need to stand there and shout at me.
Mossopp 01-22-2003, 04:10 PM Generally the people that come into my office are alright but some of them can be total b@$tards!! Luckily I work in the Audit Room most of the day and I'm only out in reception dealing with clients for about 90 mins a day. When the secretary is off work I have to be out there all day and I have had a few clients come in and talk $h!t to me. It's really hard to maintain a professional attitude in those situations. There have been a couple of times where I've really wanted to just tell 'em to f**k off and learn some respect. Just cos I work in an office and might not exactly be in the highest wage bracket doesn't mean I deserve to be treated like dirt.

Storyteller2003 01-22-2003, 05:02 PM AMEN!!!
I'm a librarian so I'm use to people getting their noses out of joint for something I have no control over. I can't wait to hear some of the rants now that tax forms are out. Either it's our fault we're out; that we didn't get it or that the IRS didn't think of making a certain form.
I've had to call the police about patrons before. I don't like doing it but our policies clearly state that harassing employees/other patrons will not be tolerated. One of my co-workers even had to file a police report because a guy pushed her when she told him to get off the computer. I guess he didn't think looking at porn while setting between two 5 year old girls was a problem. After working in retail during college, I can safely say that the weirdos flock to the library. :(

fr00ti 01-22-2003, 05:28 PM I do to. I mean come on people dont yell at the poor innocent employee.
Brian Damage 01-22-2003, 05:37 PM I hated working jobs that had to deal with people, because for the most part, people suck. I worked as a security guard at Caldor and always had to deal with rude, obnoxious people. All I was allowed to do was put a fake smile on my face and remember the store policy that the customer is always right.
I worked in the Hellish world of retail sales for a number of years, and I learned only one thing...
Working in a store would be great if it weren't for all the customers.
;)
DansonQueen 01-22-2003, 05:45 PM OMG!!! I work at a popular drug store, and people all the time give me attitude about stupid stuff. I always try to be polite, and especially when I screw up, I point out to the customer what i did, but people always have to scrutinize their receipts because obviously i did something wrong. And when people come in to get a 3 cent refund, becasue they were over charged...give me a break, I'll gladly throw3 cents at you from my pocket if it means that much!! Everyone always wants something for nothing, and its so annoying!!!

No they were poor druggie people who do nothing but boink and drink and do drugs and there are quite a few in Jefferson and they made me tell them to go away and they did. They never bought anything they just hung out.........none of them were friends of employees.

Working for the public can leave a bad taste in your mouth. I tried to balance things out by flirting with the female customers whenever possible! :D
JDS84 01-25-2003, 09:38 PM I do too.
Brian 01-25-2003, 11:14 PM I have a sister who used to work at a Frozen Yogurt place and she said there have been quite a few unpleasant customers. Nothing really happened to her but one of her co-workers had a customer who was so angry about the quality of the toppings that he threw the yogurt at her! Talk about rude! If he did that to my sister, I would track him down, punch him in the head and break his jaw.
