There is a new book co-written by Hal Lifton, Adam West (Foreword) and Nancy Sinatra (Introduction). The book features icons of 60s pop-culture. Here is article explaining what the book is about and the author who wrote it:
Hal Lifton's 1966!
Meet Hal Lifson, man about town on a Schwinn Sting-Ray, and ’60s pop culture aficionado. In this personal scrapbook of childhood memories, Hal invites you to explore his cool collection of 1966 memorabilia, shares personal anecdotes and little-known facts about the icons of popular culture, and argues convincingly that one year defines the cultural spirit of the whole decade—1966!
Hal Lifson’s 1966! is the first book to focus on this single, revolutionary year that changed pop culture forever. Full-color photos of rare ’60s treasures lead you on a fantastic and remarkably fun trip down memory lane. Always witty, and never lacking for words, Hal relates the story of 1966—and the sweet and satisfying details of his suburban childhood—against a backdrop of esoteric album covers, colorful soda bottles, innovative automobiles, and collectible issues of Playboy.
Chapters such as "Food & Drink," "Television," and "Playtime" neatly categorize the elements that make our culture "pop." In "On the Go," Hal features the ultimate cool cars of ’66: Ford Mustangs, sports cars, and hot rods (including the Lifson’s family car, a powder blue Country Squire station wagon). "Sounds" highlights the release of albums like the Beach Boys’ Pet Sounds, the Beatles’ Revolver, and Bob Dylan’s Blonde on Blonde. In other chapters, Hal also covers fashion, celebrities, film, and other indelible images of 1966.
Who can forget the premiere of Batman, The Monkees, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, and It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown; the debut of Twister; the refreshing charm of the Wham-O Water Wiggle; Frosty the Sno-Cone Maker churning ice out of his chest; or the Milk Shake candy bar that tasted so much better frozen? For as many reasons as there are colors in a kaleidoscope, Hal believes 1966 embodies the essence of the ’60s. Once you've seen Hal Lifson's 1966!, you're sure to agree. This book is a testimony to Hal's uncanny foresight, his gift for recognizing, then and now, what is really cool.
