Yeah, you really shouldn't have said that. Peter Sallis is a well-respected actor.
Anyway, congrats to Nate. I didn't think you would have gotten a reply as soon as that.

I have to look up a bunch of pics. I want to send fan letters to so many people. I guess I better do it that way. I better send them all out at once instead of doing it one at a time. God, this is gonna be so cool if we get replies back.

Hi there,
I honestly have no idea who you are, but Nate told me to write.
Americans already look whacked to the rest of the world. I don't think I need to help that image.

You ever see those music things where the fans are screaming/crying over some group or musician? That would prob. be what I'm doing if I get a reply back. I can just imagine me holding the letter and I start to scream and then sit down and burst into tears. lol

My favorite program you did is 'The Golden Girls'. It is one of my all time favorite shows, and Rose is my favorite character. You did a terrific job portraying her, and I love the Saint Olaf story's they are so hillarious.

Match Game is two words. :) And story's is stories. But yeah, it sounds fine. Post the rest when you figure out what to write.
Maybe I should write her too. I've always wondered if she still talks to Richard.

And it is so great how close you guys were, and it almost makes me feel part of the Golden Girl family!
I have read recently that you are in the new film “Bringing Down the House” I cannot wait to see it, I am sure you will be fantastic in it! I hope you make more appearances in the future.
It is so admirable all you do for animals, I watched your “Intimate Portrait” on Lifetime and it is so great that you are involved with helping them. I love animals myself, and there so many terrible things that threaten them that it is so good to be so many people who care so much about them.
I am so glad to be able to write you, Ms. White, and thank you for all the entertaining shows you have made and all you have done for all of your fans. I am so grateful for your work and I ………….
Most Sincerely,
Chris

 Okay, I think I've got my first person that I want to write too. I still need to buy some picture paper. The first brand I got has a glossy front, but it feels nothing like picture paper. I need Kodak brand. I have no idea what brand I have now.
I will try my damndest not to sound like a dork when I write this letter. I've got to keep a clear mind and not gush 'OMG! You're like so f'n awesome!!' and repeat that line like 3 times through the whole letter.
You got a date in mind, Cathy? I don't think I'll be able to send it by myself. If I know someone else is sending out a letter on the same day, maybe it will help me get the nerve to put the letter in the mailbox.

Feb 7th sounds good. That's a good idea about the PMing our letters.
How many people do you want to write to, Cathy? I made a list awhile back, but it needs updating.
I just tried typing a practice letter to Ken Osmond and wow, this is gonna be hard for me. I know what I want to say. It sounds dorky when I have it all typed out. We gotta give moral support to each other. Thankfully, I have you.
Edit: Anybody can answer this part. Okay, I really like Carroll O' Connor and Rod Serling. I know I can't get an autograph, but would it look weird to write to Carroll's wife and Rod's wife and just tell them how much I admired Carroll and Rod. I don't wanna seem like some crazed obsessed stalker. Yeah, that does sound weird. I might not do that after all.

Just 2? I've drafted up a list and I swear I have about 30 people on it. lol
It starts to get a bit easier on some of them. I just did my Bill Shatner letter, the draft anyway. It seems a bit weird. Idk. I might have to rework it. It's just a page long. That's the longest one so far. I started rambling like midway through. lol
Here it is:
Dear Mr. Shatner,
Hello. I’m 18 years old and I’m such a big fan of yours. Of course, I love Star Trek. Captain Kirk was always my favorite character. However, I’m not one of these fans that close you in a box and just see William Shatner as Captain Kirk. I know that had to have been a pain to meet up with fans that totally ignore your other work and still see you as Captain Kirk. I’ve seen some of your other work before I even seen one episode of Star Trek, so I guess that’s why I didn’t close you up in a box and still see you as Captain Kirk.
I love your episodes of ‘The Twilight Zone’. God, that was a great show all by itself. “Nick of Time” and “Nightmare at 20,000 Feet” are great episodes. I really wished you had made more guest appearances on TTZ. Look at Jack Klugman; I think he made like 5 or 6 episodes for TTZ. Would you consider making a guest appearance on that new Twilight Zone show on UPN? I have to admit that I love the old Twilight Zone show, but I’ve been kind of disappointed by that new TZ show. I’ve heard they are doing sequels and remaking some of the old TZ episodes, so they might do a good job on that.
My favorite movie you were in is ‘Go Ask Alice’. I saw that movie in my Psychology class in high school. I hated the Psychology class, but seeing ‘Go Ask Alice’ was probably the high point of being in that class. I read the book to ‘Go Ask Alice’ after I seen the movie and the book is just as good.
I like your ‘One Hit Wonders’ show you have on VH1. I didn’t really watch VH1 all that much before. You definitely improved the channel. I only watch VH1 to see OHW. Oh yeah, I heard you were coming out with a cd in 2003. That’s pretty cool. I can’t wait to buy it.
Mr. Shatner, I know you must be a very busy person. However, I was wondering if you could autograph the enclosed pictures for me. It would mean so much to me. I would really appreciate it.
Thank you,
I'll proofread later, but can anybody say 'Certified Nerd' for that letter? lol God, I just put some other nerds to shame. lol
dawsongirl 01-26-2003, 05:12 PM Oh...it's not nerdy. I like your angle on saying you like him in other things. I thought about that with my letters too. Sounds fine for a first draft! :) Gotta work on mine tonight. So you might be getting some PMs. :D
You ever seen him on Match Game? He was funny on there. I have some.

You ever seen him on Match Game? He was funny on there. I have some.
Thanks! :) I started hunting up pics too. Okay, I'll be waiting for the PMs.
I've never seen him on Match Game. I bet he was funny on there. How many episodes did he appear on?

Two full weeks (one in 74 and one in 75), and two PMs, both in 75.

Ah, that's cool.
Cathy, I just wanna go ahead and warn you. I won't explain the problem here. If you want to know just go into the complain thread. Anyway, I might not be here for a few days. I hope I can get the problem straightened out this week, but it's a mystery to me now. I was planning on typing all my letters up, but I'm just scared to use this computer now. I'll hand write them and I still want to go with the Feb. 7th date for sending the letters out.

lol,Jenny, when I read you were scared to use your computer I thought it was inhabited by some demon or something....I have been watching too many freaky movies lately, But that sucks about your comp...My monitor has been changing tones lately and it's been bugging me...blah computers are so messed up sometimes
anyways...Your letter is awesome! You sound really great in it, I hope you can get a responce from him!
and ok heres a question...typed or hand written? I don't know and I am starting to do my one for betty and am kinda confused as what I should do....hmmm....
dawsongirl 01-26-2003, 11:36 PM Okay, I'll go read the complaint thread, Jenny. :)
Chris, I'd say typed simply because it looks more professional. Not that you have bad handwriting, but that way she's guaranteed to be able to read it. idk. Handwriting nowadays might stand out more. sigh. I'm confused.
dawsongirl 01-26-2003, 11:55 PM Jenny, if you need to push the date back, that's perfectly cool. I just said that because it's a Friday. I had a great idea of something to send Richard and I (no, the bitch on ebay) blew that, so now I'm at square one anyway.

Ah see I am too! I have no idea what to do, I think I am going with handwritten since imo i have good handwriting and it will look more personal....idk lol oh well we will wait and see! I might wait untill the end of feb to send mine though theres a new Gone with the wind stamp coming out and i want to mail all my letters with it! lol!

I guess it was inhabited by a demon. I'm afraid I still don't understand it. Yesterday it was popping and blinking, so that's why I got offline so early last night. I've been online for about an hour and nothing has happened today. It's kind of weird.
Thanks, Chris. :) I'm still not sure what I should do. When the monitor started screwing up, I assumed I'd just write the letters by hand. I think my handwriting is kind of sloppy and I kind of write on the small side. I think I'll write up that Shatner letter and scan the letter and post it on here. If it looks sloppy to you guys, I'll stick with typing it.
dawsongirl 01-27-2003, 11:32 PM That's a good idea. I'd do that, but I have no scanner. :(
I'm one of these people though that I start out fine, but the more I write, the sloppier it gets.
And I haven't even started my letter. I've been obsessing over my story too much.

Have you got a friend that has a scanner? Maybe you could take a disk and scan it and save it at a friends house?
That's me straight up and down. I also have problems with my y's and my g's. Sometimes my y's and g's are very loopy. Then at times my y's look like 4's. My dad told me that one day and it does look like a 4. Then if I use a loopy y or a loopy g, it screws up the word that will be underneath it.
I've been working on some letters tonight. I've got 9 letters done. I've got 18 more to go. I've still got to find a bunch of pictures.
Okay, let me do some writing and I can a scan a pic.
DarleneIllyria 01-28-2003, 01:04 AM Ugh, this didn't come out pretty at all. My scanner didn't pick up the paper lines and everything looks really crooked. I think I might just type it if this indicates my handwriting is as messy as I think it is.

I am thinking of writing to Smiler (Stephen Lewis) or Tom Simmonite (Tom Owen) on Last of the Summer Wine!
If you didn't see it: Here's what I wrote to Peter Sallis:

Dear Mr. Peter Sallis,
Hello, let me introduce myself. My name is Nathan Bush. I am 18 years of age and I live in Churdan, Iowa USA. I just want to say that my favourite show of all time is Last of the Summer Wine. I have watched the show since 2001 (PBS, a commercial free network similar to the BBC, started airing it in 2001) and I have enjoyed it ever since I first saw it. You may think that this is weird coming out of an 18 year old’s mouth but all the shows here in the US mainly involve just either sex, drugs, or alcohol.
I enjoy all the characters on the show such as Smiler Hemingway (Stephen Lewis), Tom Simmonite (Tom Owen) and Billy Hardcastle (Keith Clifford). But my favourite character in the series is of course, you guessed it, you, Mr. Norman Cleggy! You have some of the most noticeable quotes. My favourite quote from you is “That is western civilization’s biggest post war growth industry.”
I would love to see past episodes when it was you, Foggy and Compo more often, but it only airs twice a week here in the US where I live (Saturdays at 8:30PM and Mondays at 10:30PM.) I’ve only ever seen one episode with Compo (Bill Owen) in it. I am sure it was hard when Bill passed away. I would of loved to meet him. But I have made a pact to myself. When I get out of college, I am going to save enough money to come to the UK and meet at least one of the cast members of Last of the Summer Wine. I would just love to meet you and how you coped with the show and other topics like that.
I love the theme song to Last of the Summer Wine. I wish I could hear the version where the lyrics of the song are performed. I understand that the episode where Compo’s funeral took place, they were sung. I would actually like to see that episode though it may be heartbreaking. My favourite episode is “The Art of Shorts.” It is just hilarious when Pearl yells at Howard and keeps him on his toes for no reason, and he wasn’t even involved with Marina in that episode! That was strange.
I try and get people here in the US to watch your show, but it’s Saturday night and people have plans most of the time. Not me, I park it right on my couch and watch Last of the Summer Wine (and also Are You Being Served, Keeping Up Appearances, and My Hero.) But Last of the Summer Wine is my favourite show and I look forward to it every Saturday! I wish it was on BBC America, then I could watch it every day.
I wish I could come over to the UK and see the new episodes of the 2003 series of Last of the Summer Wine but they are airing episodes from the 2001 series right now because they aired all of the 2002 series. We won’t get to see the 2003 series until either summer or fall of 2003. I wish they would air old episodes from the 1980s or 1970s. I would love to see the pilot to this show. “Of Funerals and Fish” is a good title for the pilot in my opinion.
Well I must run, I hope you get this letter and have had a chance to read this personally yourself. It would be awesome if I could meet you someday. But hey, I might get the chance someday! If you see Tom Owen and Keith Clifford tell them “Hey Up!” for me! It was nice talking to you Peter, and I hope you have a Happy New Year!
Cordially,
Nathan Bush
18 Year Old Last of the Summer Wine Fan

That was just a small little sample. I've already posted the rest of it. Writing that was just to see if others think my handwriting is sloppy.
P.S. I wouldn't post my mailing address on here, if I were you.

Dude, you should totally write to Smiler - he's hilarious!!
Have you ever seen 'On The Buses'? Stephen Lewis was in that too.

I've never seen anyone who makes all their A's capital. That's cool. But trust me...that is NOT sloppy. If I can read it w/o going, "Huh? What's that word?" it's fine.
And no, no scanners, but I just thought of something. I'll aim my camcorder at something and take a snappy. :)
dawsongirl 01-28-2003, 10:20 PM This is just flippin hilarious. I'm typing these...
BTW, that's a story, not a letter.

What are you talking about? That looks so much better than my handwriting. You should be the one handwriting and I should be the one typing.
About my A's, I can't do small a's for some reason. I can't really do big D's all that well. They both look pretty crooked when I try to write it that way.
Don't even ask about my cursive writing. It looks like chicken scratch or something.

Cursive?? I don't even use it. I remember in 5th grade my teacher told us we'd use it all the time in high school. Never used it once. I do have a tendencey to link some letters together. I always want to link my little a's to the letter behind it.
Georgia's on my Mind 01-28-2003, 11:48 PM Well I can't resist posting a sample of my handwriting lol....anyways you guys have awesome handwriting...I think Iam going to write out all my letters so it seems more personal...eh but typed letters might be neater...i am still so confused lolbut anyways you guys have great readable handwriting... what do you think of mine? i would hate to send them this letter and them not being able to read it lol, anyways heres a scan of a old draft of a letter...i changed most of the content but you get the drift

Ugh, yep. Did your teachers used to tell you that high school would be sooooooooo tough and they won't baby you like we do. I swear every teacher I had like 6th through 8th grade would say that. I thought high school was pretty easy, the work anyway. I'm not a naturally smart person. I had to study my butt off to get the grades I got. When I was tempted on not studying, I would ask myself it it's worth staying in this crappy school any longer than I have to. It never was. I would study after thinking about that.
Anyway, I never used cursive in middle school or in high school. It was just easier for me to not write in cursive. Geez, I'd probably still be in high school if I had done everything in cursive because I seriously can't read my cursive handwriting. It is really sloppy and if I had done notes and stuff in cursive, I would still be sitting here trying to figure out what I wrote. lol

Yeah...bull. High school wasn't a breeze, but it was easy. Then they were all like, "In college you'll have to study so much..." Not me. In terms of work, it's only slightly different than high school.

Some of the classes in hs were hard to get through. A few of the teachers seemed to make learning fun. Others put me to sleep. You know one of the worst classes I had in hs was Horticulture. Oh dear, I hated that class. The teacher looked like Al Bundy to me and he was so boring. We would have to go out to the green house and take care of our plants. Surprisingly, I didn't kill my flowers. That is a miracle. :D
French class was rather hard to get through too. I didn't really try all that hard. I only learned one thing out of that whole class and that's how to ask to go to the bathroom in French. Hmm, now that is a pretty useful question. I don't know how to spell it in french, I can still say it though. lol

Horticulture? Yuck. :p
Hardest for me...Trig, but somehow I got away with an A. Or chem. Gag. No wait...choir. I can't sing worth a damn but a really cute guy was in it. Man that was a stupid thing to do.
I took Spanish. I'm not sure if I can ask for a bathroom or not. I can ask for a prostitute...there's a necessity.
dawsongirl 01-29-2003, 10:29 PM Okay guys, I made my decision...handwritten. I talked to some other people who have written to Richard and they all suggested handwritten, so I'm going for that.

lol- I know I'll sound like a true dummy here. I never aimed for the high classes like Trig. Geez, I would've never gotten out of school if I had taken that!
Choir for a cute guy? That sounds like me with Horticulture. I had the hots for this one guy in the class. He was the main reason I stayed in that class. I had of couple of friends that I made in that class, but the hot guy was the only reason I stayed.
It was def. not a good choice to make. I hated getting my fingernails dirty. We'd have to dig in all that dirt and I would seriously start hypervenilating because I hated digging in it. Plus you never know which bugs live in the dirt in those greenhouses. I could just imagine digging in that dirt and a big ass cockroach crawl up my arm. I would've had grey hair from that moment on.

Trig just came in the rotation. Besides, if I hadn't have taken it, I would have been those credits short. I didn't take anything unnecessary.
Well, actually two cute guys. I love a guy that can sing and these guys could sing. *swoon* They were both in show choir so I became a groupie. Didn't work, but what the hell. One of them was in drama with me. I was always trying to get with him (not like that!!) but our director didn't do it very often. Damn him.

I think I'm typing all mine. I've still got quite a few letters to type. Let me see. Okay, we're sending the letters off on Feb 7th. Today is Jan. 29th. I guess I can finish picture hunting by the 1st. Get all the addresses up by the 3rd and finishing writing the letters in between. Yep, that's my schedule for this week.
Georgia's on my Mind 01-29-2003, 10:41 PM ah thanks guys! i think i will do handwritten too, i asked my mom and she said my words are too close together...oh well i will just write carefully and hopefully it willl be good! Tell me if you guys get responces!!
dawsongirl 01-29-2003, 10:44 PM Argh...I have a week. *deep breath* Gotta find a pic! A magazine! ANYTHING! *deep breath* I haven't really been doing my homework lately, so you'd think I'd come up with something. Actually, I came up with an opening then forgot it. Duh. How'd you open your letters? This is just like writing a story...I can't come up with an opening.

I took the baby math classes. I figure they'd be easier and as along as I got the 3 math credits, I'd be okay.
The guy that was in my Horticulture class was also in one of my Literature classes. Okay, this guy was really cool and I have no idea why he paid a bit of attention to me. I was like Miss. Weird. lol Anyway, this guy was paying attention to me and I really showed my bitchy side toward him. Idk why. I acted like I had pms everyday around him. I figured if we got in another class and he still was interested in me, I could at least be normal. When I say normal, I mean not acting like I had pms everyday. lol
I think after being in the Horticulture class with me, he prob. thought I was Queen Weird. Singing the Andy Griffith Show theme in front of everybody (I can't sing either) was def. a weird moment. I would say that was the moment he thought I was a little on the weird side. lol

You know my openings and closings for each letter I've done so far are pretty similar. I just couldn't think of anything different I could add in the opening or closing.

No its not working for me either. What kind of site is it?
DarleneIllyria 01-30-2003, 03:17 AM Originally posted by ¤MsConanOBrien¤

I think it's like an editing site where you can stretch a picture and it still look pretty good. Like if I had printed that Shatner picture I posted a few hours ago, it prob. wouldn't of covered a full page. Worse yet, it might've looked freakingly blurry.
I've got another question. Okay, I have a MGI PhotoSuite program on my computer. I got in there and started playing around with buttons and previews and all that. I got my Shatner picture and went to print preview. Clicked on the picture and stretched it there. I didn't print it because I want to save my ink for when I print the real thing. My question is if I stretch it Print Preview and click okay will it actually print the picture just like it looks in print preview now, or will it still appear small like the picture I posted here a few hours ago.
I hope I'm describing it clearly. I don't see why not. Then again, I have no idea. lol
dawsongirl 01-30-2003, 02:15 PM I have that MGI thing. I'd go try it, but I have to go back to school in an hour. I'll try it tonight. I'll waste my ink. :D

In MGI, make sure your project is 1024x768 (or something like that), then make sure the picture takes up most of the white space. That will be full sheet size.

Thanks Cathy. You're absolutely awesome.
God, I'm starting to get a tad bit nervous. Dammit, I looked up some of the celeb addresses I have on Star Archive and some of the people I want to write to hasn't got a recent address listed. Crud. I'm really half and half though. Here's the ones that have kind of recent addresses that I'm gonna aim for.
Aiming:
Ken Osmond
William Shatner
Leonard Nimoy
James Doohan
George Takei
Walter Koenig
Nichelle Nichols
Adam West
Frank Gorshin
Julie Newmar
Lee Meriwether
Sally Struthers
Jean Stapleton
Rowan Atkinson
Haven't got a current address:
Andy Griffith
Don Knotts
Jim Nabors
Ron Howard
Lisa Whelchel
Nancy McKeon
Kim Fields
Mindy Cohn
Charlotte Rae
Burt Ward
Yvonne Craig
James Marsters
Juliet Landau
Rob Reiner
I've just got to find some more websites. Free websites at that. Hmm
Thanks again, Cathy. :)
dawsongirl 01-30-2003, 10:38 PM Dang...I had a website and it's down or something. :p Had addresses.
Someone around here has to have the FOL girls' addresses.
And I love Julie Newmar! I've seen her on The Monkees, Route 66, and an ep of McMillan and Wife and she was very charismatic on them all. :) She was on M&W with Richard. That was cool.

Cathy,
I think I got a couple of addresses from those websites. A couple of them you have to pay to join and I don't think I wanna do that at this moment. I haven't printed the picture yet. I need to get some Kodak picture paper. Isn't that the best brand to use? Anybody know?
I've got to find 3 more pictures and write 15 more letters.
I hope this doesn't sound stupid, but let me ask. How many stamps are you gonna put on your letter, Cathy? I'm gonna put some pieces of cardboard in my envelopes so the picture won't get bent (hopefully not) and that will make the letter heavier. You think I should put 2 stamps on the outside envelope and 2 on the SASE? Uh, I know thats a dumb question but I'm clueless about that. lol
dawsongirl 02-02-2003, 03:49 PM Well, I have to find pictures AND write a letter. I so have no idea what to say.
My aunt got an envelope the other day that was about the size of a 8x10 picture and it had three stamps on it. So I think I'll put three to four. Which means I need to get some. And an envelope. Oy vey...
And yeah, Kodak is good. I have both that and HP and they're both fine. Though don't get the pic wet. My mom did and it streaked. On the HP paper that is.

Oh yeah, I need to get some stamps. Hmm, I think I need to cut some of my list up. Make a list of who I want to write to now and who can wait later.
Kodak and HP are the good brands. I need to buy some and get some envelopes.
Thanks, Cathy.
DarleneIllyria 02-03-2003, 03:29 AM Cathy,
Are you still struggling over what to say? Maybe you're going about it all wrong. Where are you trying to write this letter at? I mean are you gonna type it first and then handwrite it or are you just handwriting it now? It seems most of my thoughts are pretty gathered if I'm typing my letter. You might want to try typing and then handwriting it.
Well, I had to downsize again. To think I started out with about 30 names and now I'm down to 11. Talk about a major shrinkage. I need to write one more letter and find one more picture. I'm really struggling over the picture. What is it with Ken Osmond? Geez, I can't find any good pictures of him. I've tried google and tried other LITB sites and tried looking at ebay. I've found nothing so far. I really want to send my own pic. I might get a preprint if I don't. That's why I want to find my own pic.
Ah well, I've got to the 4th to write my last letter and find a Ken pic. Then I'm gonna start printing and cutting up cardboard to stuff in the envelopes. I'm starting to get excited now since I've got the main work done.
dawsongirl 02-03-2003, 10:30 PM In a way yes, in a way no. I swear this is harder than a term paper. I was talking to a girl who's written him and she just told me to be myself, say what I like, etc. Now I can't remember anything, but yeah. And truthfully, I haven't written a thing. I've been trying to finish this book for American Lit...and I keep writing that damn fanfic. And now it's snowing. Okay...tomorrow night and Wednesday during my 3 hour class break. Maybe I will type it first.
And I can't find a pic either!!!! Like you, I don't want a preprint (everyone gets those- they're all over ebay). I've got this Snappy and can take anything I want, but dang, I can't think! I want something other than Feud, Match Game, or Hogan's Heroes. Something rarer. And I have no idea what age...30's, 40's, 50's? Argh...

Yeah, that's good advice to take. It's hard to put in action though. I need to type my one last letter and still try to find a good Ken Osmond picture.
Hmm, maybe I can help you. Try www.google.com and click on the Image tab. Try www.fansites.com and search for Richard websites and just get pictures from there. www.yahoo.com and type in Richard picture galleries might help. Ebay is another good page. I think I got a couple of my pictures from there.
Cathy, if you can't decide between what age group maybe you could send 2 pictures? I have to admit for a couple of people I just couldn't choose a picture so I'm sending 2. I think William Shatner was one person that I'm gonna send 2 pictures.
dawsongirl 02-03-2003, 11:07 PM I know a site where I could get more pics than I could use, The Richard Dawson Experience. I didn't know if I wanted to use her pics though.
And I've searched ebay a lot.

Ebay hasn't helped me with Ken. I swear every pic I see on there is already autographed. I've tried Google. I don't understand this. I thought Eddie Haskell was such a popular character. Where's the photo galleries and the websites dedicated to him? Well, I'm off again to look up more websites in order to find a picture.
Good luck, Cathy.
dawsongirl 02-04-2003, 06:54 PM That is strange. And yeah, every RD pic on ebay is already signed. Great...if you really want one addressed to "Joe." I'd send him my Hogan's Heroes album...but it's already signed. :) I wonder if it's on CD...

Adam West c/o name of convention and of course the rest of the address or should I send a seperate letter to the convention and ask if they would be so kind and make sure Adam and all get my letters?

Okay, thanks.
I go to this Batman board. It's a different Batman board and somebody posted something about a convention. I go to the main page where it lists all the guests and Adam and Julie will both be at that convention. I'd like to know if Burt, Frank, and Yvonne still do conventions. Yvonne might. I'm not too sure about Burt and Frank.
I give up looking for a Ken pic. Let me find Ken's letter. The way I worded in the letter is a bit different than the other letters. 'I was wondering if you could autograph a picture for me.' I hope he has pictures and will sign the picture. Damn shame I couldn't find a good one. Oh well.

dawsongirl 02-05-2003, 08:02 PM Okay, tell me how dorky this opening is...
Dear Mr. Dawson,
I hope this letter finds you well. My name is Cathy, I'm 23 year's-old, and a college student in Iowa. I wanted to write and tell you how much I (like) you and your work. I've wanted to write for awhile, but seeing as this is the first fan letter I've ever written, I didn't know quite what to say. But I did really want to tell you that you are my all-time favorite celebrity.
Truthfully, I have throughly enjoyed everything I've seen you in ( ). Unfortunately I have yet to see all that you have done, but I have my favorites, as I'm sure you do.
That's all I've got so far. Dorky? Too many contractions?

Some of my pictures did that. Unfortunately, I had to get another picture. This one of Walter Koenig came out looking like a true mess. I really wanted to get him to sign this one and it came out all screwed up and everything.
Did you say you had that MGI program? Are you trying to enlarge it in there?
Oh yeah, for some reason a dark picture really blurred up for me. It sucks. My pictures came out looking okay, they weren't perfect. I see you posted a new topic about it. I know we have quite a few image people out there. *crosses fingers* I hope they can help, Cathy.

I had the template in MGI set at 1024x768. I put a practice photo on there that was also 1024x768. It came out this little tiny picture. :(

Cathy, I swear I saved one of the pics you posted earlier and I went into each of my image programs and nothing seems to work. I've got Paint, Imaging, the MGI program, Picture It! Express, and nothing seems to work.
I just tried going into Microsoft Word and inserting a picture in the Word program and stretching it in there. I admit that it does look less blurry in Word, but I don't know if it would print correctly in there. It might print just as small in Word as it would in another program.
I'm so upset:(. None of the websites listed seem to have the address for Steve Landesberg. My favorite show is Barney Miller, and Steve Landesberg played my favorite character. I would have loved to write him a letter.
dawsongirl 02-06-2003, 06:42 PM That's too bad, Sara. You'd think there would be an address somewhere.

Sara,
Have you tried the websites that charges like a member fee? If you can't find it on Star Archive or websites like that, you might have to go to one of the paying websites?
DarleneIllyria 02-06-2003, 11:30 PM Hmm, I've been doing some more searching. Okay, what do I want to do? Adam West will be at a convention and Julie Newmar will be at the same convention. If I send both letters out now, somebody might lose the letters when they reach the convention place. This convention is supposed to take place like March 8th, I think. I've been sitting here thinking, what if somebody looks at the envelopes and sees Adam's name and Julie's name and thinks that both aren't even appearing within the next few days and chunks the envelopes out.
So I went into Star Archive and they have 2002 addresses for Julie and Adam. Adam has this fan club and you have to pay 10 bucks to get an autograph, that's what the success comments say. Which would be safer? Would it be safe to send it to a 2002 address or just send it to the convention? With the convention, I might be able to get the pictures back faster. The success stories on Star Archive, people have waited for months to get a reply.
Damn, I'm confusing myself. Anybody want to speak up? If anybody replies and says send it to the convention, should I put 10 bucks in Adam's envelope? That 10 bucks might just be for the fan club. It could be a whole different story if you just send it to a convention. Anybody?
dawsongirl 02-06-2003, 11:57 PM Well, I know I'm confused. Maybe if you held on to those two for awhile and sent them closer to the convention, they might not get thrown away.

Sorry about confusing you, Cathy. I def. tangle that web of confusion, I guess.
Maybe I could hold those until Feb. 18th. If I send out James Marsters envelope for his convention, I'd be timing it just right. Then again, maybe I should hold all convention envelopes until the 18th. If I send James, Julie's and Adam's off the 18th it would be timing it just right. Adam and Julie's might have to sit around for a few days, but it wouldn't be that long of a wait.
Okay, so tomorrow I'm sending out 8 envelopes. That's still quite a lot. I'd also like to take this space up and thank my printer. I had just enough colored ink to print all my pictures. :) :)
Oh yeah, we should definitely toast this moment. I suck at giving speeches, so maybe you could think of a better one, Cathy. We're finally about to send them out. I think it is safe to say that we've almost got our fan letter phobia beat. :)
dawsongirl 02-07-2003, 12:15 AM *ahem* I'd like to thank the academy for finally getting this weight lifted off my back. I can sing and dance now!! And special thanks to my little sis Jenny, for without her support, I'd have no reason to go to the post office tomorrow.

Hey Cathy, you got any other people in mind to send fan letters to? You like Jeff Gordon, how about him? Maybe we could send some more letters off Feb. 18th, or if not on that date we can decide another date. You should've seen my original list of people I wanted to write to. I had all these symbols by each person and making out the 'This time' list and 'Next time' list. Yeah, I need to update my NT list. :)
This has been great fun. It's a little scary, but the fun has kind of wiped out most of the scariness. Thanks again, Cathy. I never would've been able to do this by myself. Thanks again! :)
DarleneIllyria 02-07-2003, 12:31 AM Geez, look at my above post. You can def. tell I'm really getting excited by the use of my smilies.
DarleneIllyria 02-07-2003, 03:11 AM Holy ****, I went back into Star Archive and I'm typing in various names. I type Jerry Mathers into the search box. Take a look at this:
Tested
Sent: 11/29/2002, Rcvd: 12/18/2002
Tester's comment: "FINALLY, I got a response back. I don't know why they don't answer this question on the website instead of making me wait this long. I got the information on how much an autographed photo costs. Get ready: It is FIFTY DOLLARS! I like the Beaver but I think that is way too much. If you really love him, go for it. As for me, that is way too steep. Thanks anyway Beaver."
You think that's bad? I clicked on Jerry's website and he's charging 70 bucks now to sign stuff. Like that person said on Star Archive, I like Jerry but he sure as hell ain't worth 70 bucks. I could see paying anywhere from 10 to 30 bucks for an autograph, but 70 bucks. No way, no way in hell. I take that back, if it's going to charity that wouldn't be as bad. It doesn't say in the request part that your payment is being used as a donation to X Fund or whatever.
Barnabas1 02-07-2003, 08:58 AM Geez Sara, good luck on your address!

Yeah, it does feel pretty good. Don't worry about it, Cathy. You could never sound dorky. However, I'm worried that I sounded like a dork in my letters.
Mine were kind of on the short side. I wrote more than just 'Hey. I like your work. Can you sign this for me?' I def. wrote more than that. Mine varied from half a page to a full page. I think William's letter was the longest. His was a full page.

And yeah, he and his wife own a Bed adn breakfast in GA, they make all there money from the fact that he was in GWTW...his wife is such a bitch I have heard... Ok storytime! lol
I have talked to someone who was in GA with her friend and they were only staying there till that night so couldn't stay at the B&b, so they politely knocked on the door and asked if they could have Fred auto their photo's. His wife, who answered, grabbed the photo's slammed the door...they waited for a few seconds, she opened the door and threw the "autographed" pictures at them...obviously she had just scribbled his name on them....that is such a evil lady, you think she would be kind enough to at least say I am sorry Fred charges to sign...ect. Thanks so much! I am crossing my fingers! I hope you get replys to all your letters also!!
It is really awful, I think the most part is because of his wife...and because he is a little senile as you can see from my last post. It is so awful that some of these people are that greedy!
There is another woman who was in GWTW, her name is Alicia Rhett...She did a screen test for Scarlett but was cast in a smaller role...I know of one person who has actually met her and she is a very mean old lady, like the other man this was the only film she was in and IMO she is still upset about not getting the part of Scarlett! She told the person who I know, who knows her she uses fan mail in the fireplace...She really hates the fact she was in GWTW...some of these people REALLY get on my nerves.

You explained a bit more about the man, so I'm thinking now that maybe the wife charges for the autograph and just keeps the money for herself. You never know.
That's pretty sad about Alicia. The way I see it, who cares if she wasn't Scarlett. She participated in the biggest film of all time. Yeah, she had a small role, but she was still in the movie. You can never figure out some people.

Yeah, exactly. I'm just wondering something. Did Alicia still try and get roles or did she get into such a huff with losing the Scarlett character that she gave it up? If she still tried to get roles and didn't get it, that must mean she wasn't that great of an actress.

Yeah, some do need to wake up. I'm just wondering something. Okay, let me take Tina Louise as an example. She really has a thing against 'Gilligan's Island'. She still does, right? If I sent her a photo to autograph that had the whole cast of GI on it, I wonder if she would sign it? I bet she charges. I don't know for sure, but I bet she charges.
I don't know why that popped into my head, but it's interesting to know if others that hate the things they were in would sign a pic from the movie/tv show.
*PinkLady* 02-08-2003, 09:39 PM I've thought about writing fan letters, but I don't think I could. Whoever I wrote to would probably laugh till they crapped their pants when they read my letter.

Oh! I know! Okay, I have A LOT of opportunities to make pictures from Match Game, but I was hesitant to send Richard one, knowing he didn't leave MG on real great terms. So I stayed away from MG. That would have been a great photo to send too.

Okay, so I decided that I want to decorate my bare bedroom walls with Richard related pics, and Powerpuff Girls stuff. Okay, so I'm looking thru ebay and I see this rare pic of Richard, Hugh Hefner, and some bimbo. "Cool," I thought. Only, I HATE HUGH HEFNER. That man is a pig. So I decide I'll bid on it if no one else does. So someone did of course. Now I'm upset. But I still hate Hef.
Here's the pic. Can't win the pic? Take it from ebay.

 My mom hates Hugh Hefner. I don't like the man that much either, but my mom really hates the guy.
I'm sorry somebody outbidded you. I hate when that happens. Usually if I want to bid on an auction, I'll try to bid the last day. Maybe wait during the last hour to bid, but it really pisses me off to be winning something and then somebody steals it away from you in the last minute.
dawsongirl 02-09-2003, 10:23 PM He looks like he's wearing a really bad wig in that pic.
And it was one of those Buy it Now auctions, with only Buy it Now, no auction.

Ah, a Buy it Now auction. I don't think I've ever seen something on ebay that just had the Buy it Now option without an actual auction. Wait, I take that back. I wanted this Star Trek postcard thingy and it was just a plain Buy it Now w/o an auction. I found something else I wanted instead, so I'm kind of glad I didn't do the Buy it Now option.
Georgia's on my Mind 02-09-2003, 11:06 PM ok this has alot of replies to alot of people but..
Cathy, If it wouldnt be too much, I would love to read your letter...I am sure it is fantastic!
about Alicia...I think thats the only role she tried for. If i recall correctly she was on the side of the Daughters of the Confederacy who thought it was awful that "Not only wans't Vivien southern, She wasn't even American!"so I think because she was Southern, and was kind of led on that she would get the part (even though almost thosands of people were thought of for the part) she felt that she had no talent...she is a semi-famous artist and has been after GWTW, so maybe thats where her intrest really was? it really is confusing...i wish she did an interview
I wonder about Tina, I guess it depends how she felt about it...and if her feelings against it were that strong, you could always try, you never know....
I like that pic of Richard! it's so horrible when others outbid you like that I absolutley hatE that to no end... i LOVE the Buy it now option....i won most of my vivien leigh photos that way...although sometimes they can be a pain in the @$$
ok i think i commented onm everything....and ooh yeah i hate hugh hefner too...evil man.

Okay, I really need to comment on Vivien Leigh. She did a damn good southern accent. I remember I was watching some special a few years ago and she was talking normally, and I was just blew away that she sounded so good as a southern on GWTW.
I get so sick when I'm watching a movie and the movie is supposed to be in the south or a character is supposed to be in the south, and the actor/actress makes the accent sound so hick. I mean really over doing that accent. Vivien didn't do that. She didn't over do the accent. She had that accent down perfectly.

I am so glad to hear that you liked her accent, I totally agree with you. It wasn't totally southern, but wasnt english...just right...there are a so few other movies out there where they do accents like that...I loved Vivien's regular accent though, lol That was the problem (well the only problem other than her bossums...but i wont get into that lol...) they first had with her was about her accent, but the producer said that southern and english accents sound relitively alike...but other than that everyone said she was THE Scarlett, including the author of the novel...

Yep, she was THE Scarlett. It's kind of scary thinking if someone else had been Scarlett. I don't think the movie would've been as good if another actress was playing Scarlett.
They definitely found the best actress to play her. It just makes the movie come alive so much more if you have this person that just brings the whole thing together. Vivien def. brought it alive.

Oh, I know! I'll probably stare at the envelope for an hour and then burst into tears. Then I will stop crying and open the envelope and burst into tears again.

Hmm, the lotion kind. Eh, we might want to stock up on ear plugs too. I might let out a few screams while staring at the envelope and let's just say that I can scream really loud.

The screentests for the others that I have seen are terrible...I am so glad she was chosen. I still can't picture Norma Shearer, Lucille Ball ect. playing her...Viv I felt that way too, she was Scarlett...and even she felt like she was the only possible person to play her..

I remember seeing the whole episode. If I remember right, Betty eventually started trying to write her family tree down on the blue cards since it was so confusing. :D

To see what his work is it..I think he is very, very talented...here is a sample of one of the costumes from the paper doll set he offers....(although the color book ones are only in black and white I think they are done much better .)
