As many of you have heard, over the years, Charlie's Angels has often been called "jiggle tv" and quickly dismissed as a soft porn, mindless show. Granted, when the series premiered in 1976, compared to what had been presented on network tv previously, the show was described by some with those aforementioned descriptions. Looking back in retrospect, with 27 more years of tv to compare the show to, CA was tame and harmless. I also think people tend to lose sight of the unique way, at least by network standards, that women were presented, as capable, independent females; they could look beautiful while getting their man or woman every time, without the aid of a male. As far as the soft porn label, the girls were seen in outfits, that for the most part could not be called "revealing."
I am a male, and at least in my opinion, there is always something rather sexy and attractive about seeing a strong woman that could be pleasing to the eye and painful to the groin (as long as it was not my own), if need be. I must confess that, while I feel this way in general, I did not care for the film version of the show. To me, the quintessential beautiful but tough ladies are the ones from the series. So, what are your thoughts on CA undeserved reputation and the show, in itself?
