Can anyone tell me why the writers of L&S wrote Shirley to marry that doctor and not Carmine? I was so sad to see her marry this guy. And didn't she just leave Laverne a note saying she'd run off and gotten married?

Shirley left a note for Laverne telling her she was leaving to live with her husband overseas. He was in the military and was being shipped out immediately. Laverne wasn't home and Shirley tried to get ahold of Laverne to tell her, but she couldn't, so she left a note. However, the 2nd page of the note fell under the bed and Laverne only had the 1st page and she thought the ending to the note was very abrupt. She was upset until she found the 2nd page, which had a more sentimental closing from Shirley. Shirley originally was going to continue to live with Laverne while her husband served in the military, but then Cindy Williams left the show and that is how they wrote her out. When Shirley did get married, they didn't know Cindy Williams was going to be leaving, so I've always wondered why they didn't have her marry Carmine.

Ugh yea, he bugged me. They probably wanted her to do a "finale" seeing how she was leaving because she was pregnant.

Ahh I so agree!! I hate it when they introduce love interests in the show out of no where and they end up getting married and leave. Carmine was the one for Shirley, imo. They should've ended up together.
