You're wrong, though... they are the same person! After running in to trouble with "The Man", Maynard fled and created a new identity for himself. THe "G" in Maynard G. Krebs stands for "Gilligan", which is why you never knew if Gilligan had a first or a last name... he wanted to remain annonymous!

Very good Silentbri, but their twin cousins.
See Gilligan moved next door to Maynard's when he was five. But Maynard was ashamed of his twin cousin because he expected him to be interested in the things he liked.
Gilligan was home schooled and after being schooled he worked at a gas station. Then he became the Skippers little buddy.
So Maynard stowed away with Gilligan.
Then they were shipwrecked and Gilligan and Maynard switched places from time to time so Maynard could work.
Of course in real life Bob Denver played Maynard and Gilligan.
The G stands for Walter.

Waitaminit... if Maynard was ashamed of his cousin, then why would he decide to stow away onboard the Minnow? He needs a motivation to be there! I'm sorry, but your scenario doesn't make sense to me.

Did i say ashamed? i meant a little embarrassed of Gilligan because he wasn't a beatnik.
He thinks you can be a beatnik through gens.
But he thought if he stowed away that would mean he'd get a free trip without having to work.
Little did he know that he had to work if he wants to get off that island.

Interesting theories, but Maynard must have been bonked on the head by too many coconuts, since the Gilligan character lacks so much of Maynard's intelligence and depth.

Maynard's knowledge of jazz and Beat poetry, for two examples.
