View Full Version : Gilligans age? camerym2c2@aol.com 06-23-2000, 12:04 PM If any one knows how old Gilligan is now email me at camerym2c2@aol.com silentbri 06-23-2000, 06:24 PM Bob Denver (the actor who played Gilligan) turned 65 on January 9th of this year (same age as my Dad!)Therefore, I would assume that Gilligan is right around the same age. ...But if you want to get really technical, The cahracter of Gilligan should be 69 years old this year. See, the role of Gilligan was originally written for Jerry Van Dyke (co-star of the sit-com "Coach" and brother to television icon Dick Van Dyke), but Jerry couldn't make it and so Bob Denver was thrown in as a last-minute replacement. Since Jerry will be turning 69 on July 27th this year, we can only assume that the writers meant for Gilligan to be the same age as Jerry, and therefore he would be turning 69 this year as well. ------------------ Be sure to click here and check out my web page! I saw him in an old rerun of the Dick Van Dyke show, and he did a lot of Gilligan's trademark "clumsy" humor, and he did it just as well as Bob Denver. And the reason that Van Dyke turned them down is because he thought the idea for the show was "ridiculous", and he wanted no part in it. He, of course, turns around, and stars in a show about a guy, whose mother dies, and is reincarnated as a talking car! Good choice, Jerry. And it would have been wonderful had they had Raquel Welch play Ginger, instead of Tina Louise. That would have made this show one of the best ever! Also, it's a good thing they got rid of some of the members of the original cast for the Pilot. Having that blond secretary instead of Dawn Wells would have killed off this show after one season. silentbri 06-24-2000, 12:06 PM Wow... I did not know that Jerry Van Dyke had actively turned down the roll... what was he thinking?!?!? Speaking of casting changes, I think I'll start e new topic... ------------------ Be sure to click here and check out my web page! What else are you gonna do?
