New here so I don't know if this has already been discussed, but does anyone else notice how bland, bored & unenthusiastic Demond seems in later episodes? Like from roughly late 1975 & especially '76. He stands there & speaks w/ his hands behind his back, nearly expressionless. His delivery is flat & he's barely funny. Compare him to the early episodes.
I can only assume it was because of the falling out w/ the producers over money. He comes across as totally unhappy. Redd, on the other hand seemed more meanspirited somehow & less "lovably grumpy". (same reason)
Just curious to know if any other fans noticed this....

I did notice that. All the seasons were really great, but the first two really stick out in my mind as the best. But hey, that's just my opinion, lol. I think the saving grace of most episodes in later seasons was the arguments between Esther and Fred. Those are priceless and classic and always perk up a boring episode.

Ditto
They were still pretty good all the way through. I'd nominate Sanford and Son in the 'Never Jumped the Shark' category. It's one of the few shows that never jumped, but I did notice Lamont and how he acted in the later season

That could be it. I remember later on, he'd wear sunglasses on the inside of the house. I can't remember how many times he did that. I think I even posted a topic about that a long, long, long time ago.

So that's what it was. I knew it was something weird about Demond Wilson during the last season. Wearing those stupid looking glasses and just all around bad acting.

I always thought the same thing. Also Fred and Lamont both had trimmed up facial hair and both had real nice hair cuts. They just didn't look and act the same. And Lamont was so nice to everyone and he would talk funny like.
OH HELLOOO AUNT ESTER HOW ARE YOU real goofy
