what does the S.S. stand for in S.S. Minnow?

it doesn't stand for anything. It was a play on words to criticize Newton Minnow for his famous 1963 speech. This speech criticized American television as a "vast wastland" and said that there was hardly anything to watch on TV now that did not degrade your intelligence.

I asked that question to Bob Denver and here's the answer:S.S. stands for Steam Ship.

I thought it stood for Shortstop but then that would mean that there would have had to be a guy who played shortstop and whose last name was Minnow. Maybe he would have played for the Marlins. :crazy:
