I'm hungry too, I'm waiting for my Mozzarella Sticks to arrive. I'm annoyed cause someone handed me work without checking to see if the district, i'm supposed to be working in, is down or not.
DUH! Oh well, I'll just have to wait til it's up again and then do the deletions. :)

When I was in Jr. High School, around 1973/1974, a typical candy bar (like Milky Way, Reese's, M & M's) cost only .10 cents. How much now? .70 cents?

BTW, "Kit Kat" was not yet made in the early '70s.

Um, I think they were 50 cents in middle school at my school. I think, it's been so long that I really can't remember. I'd sneak in the teachers lounge after school to buy me a candy bar.

In high school, they didn't sell candy bars and I couldn't sneak in the lounge to buy me one. They'd sell drinks during lunch and the bottles were a buck and the cans were 50 cents, I think.

They were not available in High School? That's unusual. You could buy them at my H.S., but there was a limit (something like 5 or 6 bars per day).

Nope. See I should mention that at my school most of the people were messy. Oh yeah, that's why some of the teachers didn't want chewing gum in the class because of the idiots that stuck the wad underneath the desk. If we had candy bars available, people would leave the wrappers everywhere and it would draw roaches and rats and anything else that I wouldn't want to run into.

We were allowed to carry water bottles to class. That was the only drink that we were allowed to have in the actual classroom. Of course, you'd have people sneaking in Coke, Sprites and just about anything but water or alcohol. No, I take that back. Some dork did bring alcohol to the school at one time and he got expelled. What a dummy.

I'd go to the lunchroom a few times, I never ate lunch. They would sell cookies during lunch. I need that sugar kick, so if I had any extra change on me I'd buy 2 cookies. They'd sell the cookies, but no candy bars.

I used to sneak candy into class. Probably because I was bored.

BTW, Star Trek IV was probably my favorite of the ST movies.

 I would sneak the chewing gum into the classes that weren't allowed to have chewing gum. I don't chew like a cow, so I didn't really get caught all that many times. I think I got caught like 3 or 4 times, so that's not really that bad.

I remember this one time I got caught. I had to go to a different classroom to take these graduation tests and I had some chewing gum in my mouth and I was quietly chewing, wasn't blowing any bubbles or anything. This teacher points me out and asks if I had any gum in my mouth. I say no, even though I did and I had to swallow my gum. This teacher, I almost had her for a Mythology class but I got out of her class and got into another Mythology class. This teacher was very picky. She hated anyone clicking their pens, flipping their hair, hated bookbags to be in the aisles. She was just one of those stubborn teachers that hates everything. People like that just shouldn't be teachers. If everything gets on your nerves, you just shouldn't become a teacher.

I love the 4th movie. It's my favorite too. I'd say it goes in this order according to my faves: 4, 3, 2, 6, and 5. I haven't seen the first one. The fifth one is dull all the way around, imo. Do you like the 5th ST movie, Fleet?

Your order would be about the same for me. But ST 3 and 2 are very close when choosing one over the other. 6 was certainly better than 5. 5 wasn't too bad considering there were already four others preceding it. ST 1, the first movie, is just about everything you've heard about it: Slow moving, not really enough of a plot for a two-hour movie.

My favorite ST episode is without a doubt "City On The Edge Of Forever."

Yeah, I agree with you about 2 and 3. My friend asked me just the other day which one I preferred the best out of 2 or 3. It was just hard trying to decide because I like each one of them equally.

The way I explained it was ST 2 had a great storyline and Spock dying at the end was just a great ending. That was a dynamite way to end things.

Then I started thinking about 3,4,5, and 6. What if those movies had never been made? Spock would've stayed dead and that would've been the end of it. What would've been a great movie ending, would've sucked if they didn't bring him back. They killed Captain Kirk in the Generations movie and nobody has brought him back to life in any of the movies. The only one that brought him back was William Shatner when he started writing his own Star Trek books.Yet, when they dedicated 3 as Search for Spock, you knew he was gonna come back. That was a dynamite way to go, too.

I've read stuff about ST: TMP. I think it was in James Doohan's book where he mentioned he fell asleep at the premiere for the film and William Shatner fell asleep, too.

You know, unfortunately I got into the whole Star Trek deal a little too late. I caught a few of the Season 3 eps and I've got one tape of episodes to watch. Luckily, I had sense to tape that Chain Reaction they had in Nov. Scifi isn't showing the show anymore. I have no idea if they plan to add it again. I just don't understand why they took the show off to start with. Whether you love or hate the show, you have to admit ST is the premise of Science Fiction.

Out of the eps I've seen, I'd say 'The Trouble w/ Tribbles' is my favorite. That could change if I ever see all the eps.

Do you have any of the Star Trek fotonovels, Fleet? I won an auction off of ebay for 10 of the fotonovels. I've got 2,3,4,5,6,7,8,10,11, and 12.

If there was a survey, "Tribbles" would probably be in the top 5 (or top 10).

Regarding books on "Trek," I only have the "Tribbles" book and those adaptions by James Blish. #1-12.

My older brother was lucky enough to see the original episodes when they aired back in the late '60s. I started watching it shortly after, when they went into reruns. This would be in the early '70s. Needless to say, I've seen all of the original 79 episodes at least 10 times each!

I wished I could've seen the original eps when they were airing in the late 60s. I know you probably had a few commericials, but you just didn't have as many commericials as you do today. It's just sad the way some shows are cut to pieces.

Have you read any of the actors autobiographies? Geez, it's like a spiderweb of stuff in those autobiographies. I guess right in the center of the web, you have William Shatner. I still like the guy. He's a great actor and he just doesn't take himself all that seriously. He has a great sense of humor. However, I think the guy has some major issues because he seemed to have pissed just about everybody off that he worked with.

I've read Leonard Nimoy's books (I Am Spock and I Am Not Spock) and he really didn't say anything bad about Shatner. I read James Doohan's book (Beam Me Up, Scotty) and he limited his dislike for Shatner with one line. He said that he really didn't like that guy.

Nichelle Nichols book was kind of like Leonard's book and she didn't really show any bad feelings towards Shatner until the very end of the book. William was interviewing some of the cast (the ones that would still talk to him, that is) and William kind of talked about Nichelle and Gene Roddenberry's relationship, but Nichelle didn't talk to him about that. That's what got her so pissed at him.

Walter Koenig and George Takei didn't really do any serious dissing about Shatner, either. They just let it be known that they did have some problems with him. I really have to admire each person on ST that I read about. They really could've aired everything out about William, but they didn't.

Unfortunately, I put down for DeForest Kelley's biography but they couldn't get it for me @ the library. I'll post a pic of De's book, so if you ever see it in the library you can check it out.

Yeah, it would have been nice to see the original eps uncut!

I've read only Shatner's book, quite a few years ago. I keep meaning to buy some of the others, until I see the $25.00 price. Are any of these out in paperback? A few years ago, Bill Shatner was at a local equestrian show. I was considering going over there (Glendale, Calif.) to see him, but I thought it might be silly to talk about science fiction while he is riding and grooming horses.

DeForest made an appearance on the TV show "Bonanza" in '62 or '63. A good episode. Surprisingly, he plays a doctor. On trial for malpractice. (He's found innocent.) Thanks for the scan of his book. I'll try to order it from Barnes and Noble.

Fleet, all the ones that I got from the library were hardback books. I take that back, one of Walter Koenig's books was paperback. It was the book telling about Star Trek: The Motion Picture. Have you checked ebay? I bet you could find them pretty cheap over there. I'd love to get Bill Shatner's autograph. I'll probably never meet the guy, but I'd love to send him a fan letter and a picture and him autograph the picture.

If they still show Bonanza on PAX, I'll try to catch the ep with DeForest. Your welcome. I hope you can buy all the books at a reasonable price.

I've just started collecting Star Trek stuff lately and I see 2 things I would love to get. I couldn't buy the record version, but I'd like to find a cd version of William's 'The Transformed Man' album. lol Have you heard any of the tracks or heard a snippet of his singing, if you could even call it singing. I'd also like to get this import cd of Leonard and William singing. Let me see if I can try and find an auction and pic.

Since this is a thread about anything, how many members here have heard of the "Three Investigators" mystery series? I've read many of those books. I have an original paperback copy bought in school, around 1972 or so. This one is "The Mystery Of The Green Ghost." Probably my favorite of the series. I also like the first one... "Terror Castle." Well-written books, fun to read. I have about 15 of them- most of them hard-cover bought at used book stores.

Thanks for the info about the Bonanza ep.

That's the problem with ebay and the rare stuff. You can find books on there just fine and get it pretty cheap. It's just with the rare stuff, you just have to watch out for it. People will always wait until the last day to do any major bidding.

One time I wanted this Night Gallery promo folder. I can't remember exactly what it was. People were just going crazy over that thing in the last few minutes. I had the highest bid for like a split second and then when I refreshed the screen, somebody had jacked the price up so high that I couldn't bid again.
