View Full Version : Who was a better Drunk ? bandito 01-14-2003, 10:01 PM Who do you think acted like they were drunk better? my pick has to be henry altho charles wasent bad either  Tourmaline 01-15-2003, 12:39 PM Frank was definitely the funniest. GoldenGuy 01-19-2003, 10:13 PM i was going to say Henry or Charles, but now that i think about it, it is definitly Frank. agman2 09-24-2006, 01:21 AM I think Margaret was the best drunk. "I'm not so think as you drunk I am" TJL 09-24-2006, 07:28 AM Yeah, Hot lips was pretty funny when she was plastered. I think Henry was the funniest. Mclean Stevenson did a gret job as a drunk. tdf4077 09-24-2006, 10:18 AM My vote by far!!! Scoobiedoo30 09-24-2006, 01:00 PM Margaret. which_doobie_you_be 10-07-2006, 12:55 AM the worst by "farr", was indeed jamie farr. he over-acted his drunkeness and his slurred-speach delivery was very poor. i like his character on mash mind you, but in this case -- yikes. HelloLarry 10-07-2006, 08:38 AM MASH did so many things right but the one thing they did absolutely wrong IMO was playing drunk. Who coached them on how to act drunk? Foster Brooks. There are hundreds of types of drunks and these characters were so different that it is unbelievable to me that when they got drunk, they all were the same Auther Housman/Foster Brooks type of drunk. The slurred speech, wobbly walking etc. Its the one facet of this series that never rang true for me where they delt with so many other emotions more honestly. The closest 'real' drunk scene was BJ in the "Period of Adjustment" episode where he goes berserk and wrecks the still and Hawkeye (almost). Now that was more realistic to me. Drinking brings out different emotions in different people (at least from my experiences) and I just cringe whenever I see these drunk scenes. Jaina 10-29-2006, 11:10 PM I never really thought about it that way, but I guess they all do kinda act the same. However, having never been drunk myself and having not seen too many people in that position I wouldn't really know. However, I think my favourite drunk on the show would have to be Margaret. I like how her voice goes all funny, and she does have some pretty funny drunk lines! treky 10-30-2006, 12:54 AM Margret; hands down!!! Chocoholic 11-01-2006, 04:09 PM Radar! "Oh no! My gun, it's... it's a teddy bear!" Dog Tags 03-10-2009, 11:04 AM Col. Potter won me over when he fell down and asks " did I fall down" ? Hawk & BJ help him up assure him he didn't and he replies " I didn't think so " ... almost had a laundry problem the first time I saw that... Miss Lisa 03-10-2009, 05:54 PM Margaret. Especially when Frank banned alcohol and then walks in and sees her, Hawkeye and Trapper drunk together. "Who was that man?" TripperFan 03-10-2009, 09:19 PM I think Margaret was the best drunk. "I'm not so think as you drunk I am" I think the funniest thing I ever saw Margaret do. I even warmed to her character a little more after that one! She was great - and yah, Potter was also excellent. treky 03-11-2009, 02:15 AM Maragret, DEFINETALY!!! I liked when she said to Trapper "There you are, you a-m-inal"! And "You know what I've always liked about you, TrapperJohnIntyre"? LuLu Rogers 03-13-2009, 01:00 AM Trapper, Hawkeye and Margaret were funny in "Alcoholics Unanimous" but for me, it's a tie between Frank-"I'm gonna punch him right in the nose!", Radar-"My bear went off!", Henry-"Honey, marriage has nothing to do with sex." and Father Mulcahy-"Is there a doctor in the tent?" Yooch 03-13-2009, 10:20 PM Col. Potter won me over when he fell down and asks " did I fall down" ? Hawk & BJ help him up assure him he didn't and he replies " I didn't think so " ... almost had a laundry problem the first time I saw that...  catlover79 03-13-2009, 10:25 PM I'll have to go with Charles Emerson Winchester - always fun to see someone as aristocratic and elegant as David Ogden Stiers getting blitzed out of his mind. steevo 03-16-2009, 06:19 PM I liked Potter's drunk scene where Margaret kisses him after he grants her a pass to Tokyo to see Donald. "I always liked a nurse with Hot Lips." Dog Tags 03-17-2009, 05:26 PM Of course, Frank did a pretty good job from time to time. Seems there were several episodes he got soused in. icecream 06-13-2009, 08:26 AM Margaret was great. They should have had her drunk more often. ;) TVQuack 06-13-2009, 12:16 PM I have to go with Henry on this....definitely. Rosslover 01-22-2010, 12:49 AM Henry was the best drunk second would be Margaret... Yong Fang 02-01-2010, 04:47 AM My belief is that many of the actors were not big drinkers in real life, testifying to the fact that most of the actors on MASAH are alive and well and are over 70. Harry Morgan is still alive at 95 years old. Alan Arbus (Sidney Freedman) is alive and over 90. All the other cast regulars, Alda, Farrell, Swit, Christopher, Farr, and Rodgers seem to be in fine health. Especially with Morgan and Farr, these guys probably didn't even drink and did not know how to act and just copied Foster Brooks or Dean Martin. One actor who drank and smoked himself to death was Larry Linville who died at 60. Not an alcoholic probably, but someone who enjoyed the nightlife, bars and smoking. Probably McLean Stevenson was also an "old school" martini and scotch man who also died too young. Not my favorite character, but B.J. (Mike Farrell) acted the best drunk. Farrell's BJ drunk was loud, boisterous and sometimes mean. Winchester was a good f'ed up drunk also, and he was the best hungover. |
