View Full Version : Ethel's best moment
LucyCompanyPhan 01-14-2003, 06:43 PM what do u think Ethels best moment is?
when i think of it, the moment where shes wearing the chiniese wig,the indian dress and the eskimo skirt. i always thought that, that was one of her best moments.
another one that comes to my mind is when shes up in the tree with the duck. just the thought of it makes me laugh.
one quote that she says that i always loved was:
"honestly i could've loadded it better with a pitchfork" that was just something that stuck in my head
LucyFan 01-15-2003, 01:22 AM I think Ethel's very best moment was when she was singing "shorten' bread" while being outstaged by Lucy, Ricky, and Fred in Ethel's Hometown episode.
Mickey 01-15-2003, 08:42 AM Bearing in mind that I can only comment on a very few episodes, her old mother performances in Men Are Messy and The Girls Want To Go To A Nightclub always make me laugh. And wasn't she a terrific singer! That's something that's often overlooked.

I second that. She was brilliant in that episode.
Pitooey 01-15-2003, 10:11 AM Her best moment to me was when she was dressed up like Marilyn Monroe. She looked beautiful and she even upstaged Lucille Ball. I'm not sure of the episode but, she looked beautiful in that scene.

~LadyJess~ 01-15-2003, 04:20 PM I'd have to agree with the episode Ethel's Hometown and any episode that involves songs. Vivian Vance had such a beautiful voice, I love her singing. My favorite line from Ethel that always sticks in my head is:
Lucy: Ethel, you want to have dinner with the boys?
Ethel: Yes!...what boys?

 The tree thing is great!
bweir 01-15-2003, 05:23 PM Ethel's frantic scene in The Star Upstairs where Lucy is coming past the balcony was one of TV's great scenes.
"I have to go. I hate to eat and run."
"We didn't eat!"
"Well some other time! I have to pick up a friend."
And when Lucy catches RIcky's fishing rod in florida and pulls him out of the boat into the water and under. When he is pulled in, Ethel yells: "ARE YA WET?!!?!" That line kills me every time.

That's what I was thinking, too. She was great in that scene.
Leigh Ann 01-15-2003, 07:00 PM My favorite Ethel moment is in Ethel's Hometown when she sang Shorten' Bread and Lucy, Ricky and Fred did all those tricks on her backstage.
Audience claps.
Ethel: You want me to sing another one?
Audience roars!!

That is another great Ethel moment! It is probably my second favorite. I also like the moment where Lucy introduces Ethel to Betty Ramsey. At first, Ethel wasn't very talkative but as soon as she found that her and Betty were from the same hometown her mouth wouldn't shut up. Poor Lucy.

*ShortCake* 01-16-2003, 10:27 PM I love all of her frantic type scenes! LOL.. hwo she talks fast and jumbles up the words. I also loved Ethel's Hometown.. she was the best in that episode!
Leigh Ann 01-17-2003, 08:37 PM I thought of another one I like. On the First Stop ep, where Ethel comes out of the bathroom with toothpaste all on her face!!

I think that is one of ethel's best moments for sure!
vze3t9q9 02-28-2003, 08:53 PM The writers were excellent. A funny show where the dialog was clean. Every one had witty lines. One of my favorites is where Lucy buys Ethel's birtday present, The hostess pants episode. Ethel hates the gift "I wanted a toaster" . later the two girls who are mad at one another over the hostess pants gift go to the play and the story lines make them cry and make up.. I even cry a bit when i see that episode
vze3t9q9 03-04-2003, 08:43 PM Another Ethel moment when she tells Mrs Trumbull her thoughts on the Richardos in the No children allowed episode."My friendship with the Richardos means to me than all the money on earth" Lucy hears the speech so much Lucy cracks "Ethel that speech has had more performances than South Pacific.
