Not a good thing. :(

As others have stated, it's expensive and makes you smell. Your skin turns yellow.

But most importantly, it's a killer. My mother died at the young age of 60 from Emphysema after years and years of smoking.

Please stop while you still can.

Of course you love smoking. Nicotine is THE most addictive drug in the world, even more than heroin. Time to develop a new habit
--one that doesn't take 5 minutes off your life every time you light up. The sooner you quit now, the easier it'll be to stay off.

I don't believe you. Nobody enjoys smoking when they first start!
I remember my first cigarette - I almost threw up!! I had to smoke an entire 10 deck before I even got used to the taste.
Smoking isn't a habit I would advise but I was a smoker for about 4 years so I'm in no position to tell someone not to do it. I just hope you didn't start smoking for some stupid reason like trying to impress a guy - that really would really be pathetic.

Smoking is the most disgusting thing anyone could ever do to their body! And, if you're doing it to impress some guy or to be accepted by a group of people, that is even worse. Smoking isn't worth your life. Quit while you still can, before you get addicted. Smoking can not only cause cancer, but can also cause blood clots. My grandfather who smoked got a blood clot in one of his legs and had to get it cut off and was in a wheelchair until he died when I was 3. Smoking isn't worth your life or your limbs. You're also not only putting yourself at risk when you smoke, but others, too. Say, someone who hangs with you who doesn't smoke is around you when you smoke. They can breathe in second hand smoke and that can cause cancer. That's one thing I don't understand about smoking and non smoking sections in restaurants. Even if the two sections are on different sides of the restaurant, the smoke can still go over to the non-smoking section. Take my advice. Quit smoking while you still can and if it was friends that introduced you to smoking, I suggest you should go find some new friends, or just be smart and don't participate in their lung-polluting activities.

My mother died a lingering painful death from lung cancer last year. She was only 67. Before she got sick, she weighed a healthy 135; but when she died, she weighed 88 pounds. She looked like a holocaust victim.
Her sister (my aunt) died 2 years before from emphysema.
My best friend's father had both his legs amputated because of clots caused by his 4 pack a day habit. He's lucky he's alive today.
All three of these people started smoking young and just couldn't quit.
Give yourself the best gift in the world and quit smoking.

We're not saying that that is how you are going to die. We're just saying that by smoking you're speeding up the time till you die. I know a bunch of people that smoke/have smoke or did smoke... they're not dead yet either, and I know sh*tloads of people who have done some kind of "illegal" drug before.... but, calm down.... if it doesn't kill them it will ruin their chances of a normal life.

I can't stand being around people who are smoking. I was so glad when my mom quit after 40+ years. I hated seeing her ruin her health as well as mine and waste her money. That's one habit I'm glad I never picked up. When I see young people smoking I can't help but feel sorry for them because more than likely they will be doing it for a good majority of their life.

Ive been a smoker for years and finally this last year, antidepressants have helped me cut down to 1/4 - 1/2 pack a day. Eventually I hope to quit.

Let me give you some advice that is useful, please.

Until you are 19 yrs old, your body is still developing. Your internal organs are still developing. Smoking and drinking increases the risk of them maturing in a deformed way. If your heart/lungs (from smoking) or your kidneys (from drinking)
come to maturity with a defect of any kind, your lifespan could be shortened dramatically. Cancer and emphasima arent primary concerns at this age. They will eventually happen to anyone who smokes a great number of years, unless something kills them first, but any abnormalitys of your internal organs will be quite a bit more noticeable and immediate. You wont have to wait until you're 50 or 60 yrs old for them to happen, if they do.

The younger a person if when they take up smoking or drinking, the greater the risk of things like dramatically decreased lung capacity or even urinary incontinence. This is a rare one, but I have taken care of teenagers who severley damged their kidneys by drinking alcohol and become incontinent.

I have also taken care of a 17 yr old girl who suffered a stroke about 2 months after being in a drunk driving accident. It was a very upsetting situation. She got out of the hospital, she made it home and back to school, she thought she was going to be ok. :(
Out of the blue, she had a stroke while wealking down the stairs. She is one of the youngest people in the nursing home where she lives. Mentally, she is well alert, but cannot communicate, but with her eyes and sometime with a special computer. It's very traumatizing to see. :(

Please consider these instances if you smoke or drink. Good Luck.

Okay, I didn't read all of this topic. Frankly, I have no idea what the original person was smoking. If we're talking about cigarettes, it's a stupid choice to make. Oh, it might look so damn cool to be puffing on a cigarette- but it just isn't.

Do any of your parents smoke the cigarettes and save the little things on the top of the cigarettes in order to get a free carton? You have to save 90 of those in order to get a free carton. My dad was sending off for the free cartons because he had 180 of them saved. 180. I can guarantee that if my father doesn't die from a heart attack, he's gonna die of lung cancer. It's not going to be much of a surprise if he goes to the doctor and he finds out he has lung cancer.

You go ahead and smoke if you want. Let's see how cool it is when you get diagnosed with lung cancer.

What you have to live for is up to you.
You've got one life to do with as you please. It's not easy. Other people usually dont make it easy. We are all in the same boat. You can take charge and do something worthwhile, or sit around like a raw nerve, blaming other people for what you dont have. It's all up to you.

you want to know what i think of smoking?

my grandparents smoked and thats the reason they both died before i was twelve years old. one of heart disease and the other of lung cancer. I lived with them for quite a few years and they would still be alive now if it werent for their smoking. My grandfather had surgery where they treated the cancer- when he was coming home, he lit a cigarette before he had left the parking lot of the hospital. It relapsed (because of the cigarettes) and he died a month later. My grandmother had heart disease as a result of smoking since she was 14. She died a year later.
They were both only in their early 60s when they started getting sick. it was one of the most horrible things to watch and i dont understand how anyone could do that to themselves, especially nowadays that we know its effects.

They actually locked the bathrooms at the highschool. We had bathrooms in the 200, 400, and 500 halls. They kept the 200 and 400 bathrooms locked and they would unlock them for the bells. Most of the time they would forget to unlock them. One of the bathrooms on the 500 hall was locked and the other one on the 500 hall was open at all times. People would go in the open 500 bathroom to smoke.

I would always go to the bathroom during lunch. I would have to stand and wait for about 10 minutes before a stall would open up. I didn't bother eating lunch because lunch was only 30 minutes long. By the time I would get my lunch, it'd be time to go so why should I bother?. I'd go to the library to study or read and by the time I'd get to the library I'd only have about 15 minutes to study or read and then another bell would ring to go to class.

Oh, how could I have forgotten about that? We had a lady that stood outside the 500 hall bathroom. Still didn't discourage people from smoking. She'd just come in and spray a whole lot of air freshner in everybody's face and tell everybody to put down them cigarettes. She should've stood outside the bathroom stall and if she seen cigarette smoke coming out of the stall, she should've busted their asses right then and there. You can't catch people smoking if you do like that woman at my school.

Smokers should really have more respect. I'm out of school, but I can't tell you how many times I was late for class because I had to pee. When I have to pee, I don't care about being late for class. Some of the teachers wouldn't let you go to the bathroom if you were already in class. Some would give out detention in order to go to the bathroom. I was screwed either way. I'd either get detention for asking to to go the bathroom or get detention for being late.

If people want to smoke, don't clog up the bathroom while doing it. My school really should've built a smoking wall. You could go outside during lunch and smoke, smoke before school starts, smoke after school ends. The old R.E Lee High had that smoking wall because my dad spent more time at the smoking wall then he did in class.

Yeah, they have. Surprised the hell out of me, too. I never thought they'd be able to quit, and if they did, my dad had to be first (which he was). My dad attributed it to them becoming born-again Christians (a road I didn't follow them down, but that's cool). My dad quit in May, 2000 and my mom followed suit in January, 2001.

If schools would take a more informative approach, I think a lot more young people (and older ones, too) would decide not to smoke. So many people think, "Oh, I'll probably just get cancer one day when I'm 70, but who cares because I'll be old." The saddest part is, since we don't really have a lot of say in how long we live, our unplanned for elderly years can be our hardest. Some of us will still be able to live at home and do things we like to do, but too many will suffer miserabley because of preventable diseases.
Too many folks live in a nursing home for 20 or even 30 years, immobile, incontenient, and in constant pain. I have no idea how their bodies can take it. :(

Oh, how cute. Bags of marijuana and a convenient pack of rolling papers. Btw, pot is EXPONENTIALLY more carcinogenic than cigarettes.

Of course, potheads don't know the meaning of the above sentence. :stupid: :bonk:

I used to be a pothead. Sadly, I can't say it was very long ago. I gave it up in October of 2002, when I realized how empty it was making my life.

It didn't make me stupid, though; it made me hungry and giggly. And lazy. Pot seems harmless, but it slowly but surely starts to take control over you before you even notice it. My roommates are addicted, and it makes me sad to watch them throw their lives away. I was lucky enough to realize early on how harmful to your mind and body it is.

But, yeah, back to the original topic. Um, cigarettes are bad.

I'm glad you gave up pot, AKA. You took control again and I hope one day your roommates will give up the pot and gain control again, too.
