I was looking at John Leguizamo's comedy act "Freak" It was done in 1998. I have it on tape somewhere but, I was switching channels and when I saw John I had to watch it again. Anyway at the end of the show he said I Thank Freddie Prinze who suffered because he paved the way for Latin comics and such and such. I had tears in my eyes because he remembers............... HE REMEMBERS FREDDIE!!!!!!! http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/crying.gif I love you John Leguizamo wherever you are.........

That's really touching JennyLee. I got chills just reading your post. I have seen that special before and hadn't remembered the ending until you just brought it up. I think that many, many comics of "all" diverse backgrounds have Freddie to thank in a way. Not only was he young but he was also from the streets which proves that anybody can grasp the brass ring if they try hard enough. I think I'm going to do a search of John Leguizamo and see what I can learn. Thanks JennyLee

I looked him up on the net & found some quotes of him that sound like something that was influenced by Freddie:

"I grew up in Jackson Heights, which was like the big melting pot of America. And every accent was there, you know, at my beck and call"

"Thats my philosophy, offend them all equally. You know we all have something wrong with us."

"We've been together for two years, she is the greatest person i have ever known. A relationship takes alot of work, so we try to pay attention to it, guard it, keep it, cherish it. We're going to have a baby. I am the luckiest man alive"
-On his new girlfriend and child-

"I was a Ritalin child. I was uncontrollable. My report cards always had 'F' for conduct. I was the king of detention."
-On Being a wild Child-

"I was such a misfit. I just never fit in anywhere. I was nerdy, but to cool to hang out with the nerds. But i wasn't cool enough to be with the cool guys. My only value was to make them laugh, to be funny."
-On his childhood-

"Yes I'm a Spic...im Spic-tacular, Im spic-torious, i'm Inde-spic-able"

Yes, I can hear Freddie saying those things about himself! I have seen John Leguizamo in various things but never his stand-up act. I bet Freddie would have been a mentor to John if he were still with us.

I always liked John's comedy he has a few comedy shows. I love when he portrays his mother. John Leguizamo is so bad....

As you can see I'm pretty sure Freddie influenced him a great deal. At the end of Freak (The show - when I got all teary eyed http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/crying.gif ) He also mentioned about growing up, where they grew up and how hard it was and he didn't blame Freddie for taking drugs because alot of people were doing it back then. But Freddie paved the way and he's right.... He lost his innocence....... http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/crying.gif

John Leguizamo is even cooler to me now.
I loved "The Freak"

I agree, I'm sure Freddie would have been
a mentor to John.

Incidentally, does anyone remember John
having a show on Fox called "House of Buggin"? It was a great show and damn those bastards at Fox for cancelling it.

Was that along the same lines as "In Living Color" with Keenan Ivory Wayans?
Seems to me like I remember that show. It wasn't on very long.
By the way...did anybody catch him hosting the VH1 Vogue Fashion Awards? He was a riot.
