View Full Version : Songs that remind us....
chicosladyfair 06-11-2001, 02:05 PM Ya know...it seems that every song I hear reminds me of Freddie in some way. I have always had a strong connection with music as musicians run in our family for many generations back and I take great joy and comfort in music. I hope no one would mind me posting two songs that remind me of Freddie...just indulge me, y'all know how I am.LOL http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
HAPPINESS:
With your love I was complete
Like a haven safe from harm
Til the bitter stole the sweet
I was perfect in your arms.
A precious while
I had your smile
Til it all fell apart
With one change of heart.
The pain and regret will fade
But a fact of love will still remain
You can't always trust happiness.
Love like a sweet parade til the saddest
Part when the music fades
You can't always trust happiness.
If a single star I see
Ever made a wish come true
It would bring you back to me
But the best my heart can do
Is to love again, I don't know when
But it's worth all I fear
The heartaches and tears
Love like a lesson learned
When we pass the point of no return
You can't always trust happiness
There in love's steady glow hides
The power to hurt us so
You can't always trust happiness....
This song was recorded by Allison Krauss and Union Station. Written by Michael McDonald and Victor Krauss. I hope I'm not breaking any copywrite laws by posting this here..I apologize if I am.
Pitooey 06-11-2001, 08:21 PM For Freddie I will dedicate to him Color my world..........
As time goes on
I realize
Just what you mean to me.......
And now
Now that you're here
Promise our love
that I've waited to share
And dream
of our moments together
Color my world
with hopes of loving you........
I probably said some of the verses wrong and I forgot who sings this song but, I love this song and from now on it will remind me of Freddie Prinze Sr....... I dedicate it to him......... From JennyLee........

chicosladyfair 06-11-2001, 08:41 PM I hope we don't get sued for violation of copyright laws...that would suck! LOL!
Cheryl Harrell 06-12-2001, 10:17 AM I doubt if we get sued since this isn't doen for monetary value. Stuff by Jose Feliciano & Carlos Santana reminds me of Freddie...
atlangel 06-12-2001, 11:09 AM You ladies have dedicated some great songs to Freddie. They are all so fitting for how we feel. JennyLee22 yours is by Chicago and has always been a favorite of mine.
You all are going to have me dusting off the old L.P.'s, playing them and thinking of Freddie.
Excellent choices, very well done.
Luckymama58 06-12-2001, 11:23 AM Songs that remind me of Freddie....hum... can you say ALL OF THEM! Actually I can picture him singing so many to me. One song that I have been listening to a lot lately that reminds me of him in an odd sort of way is Fernando, by ABBA. If I can find the lyrics I will post them. I also think I would have loved to hear him sing "Lady" by Styx to me, that's why I included that one in my story! http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/smile.gif
Pitooey 06-12-2001, 02:28 PM You're right Atlangel....... It is Chicago! They are one of my favorite groups.... Thanks for reminding me.
hillbilly 06-15-2001, 10:05 AM Has anyone ever heard the song AM Radio by Everclear? It mentions Chico and the man in it.It`s a song about the seventies.
------------------
hillbilly
chicosladyfair 06-15-2001, 10:50 AM I know what song that is! My daughter made me listen to it and watch the video awhile back. I really like Everclear. They're an awesome band. But I guess I'll have to go back and listen to it to hear the Chico reference. Thanks for mentioning it Hillbilly.
bella66 06-15-2001, 04:59 PM That sounds cool. Will have to listen to it.
Cheryl Harrell 06-16-2001, 06:28 AM Never heard of that song nor heard Everclear sing. Then again I only listen to oldies & not any new music so I have no idea what is going on in new music LOL!
MariposaLKB 06-16-2001, 07:32 AM I am the same way, Cheryl, re new music--unless of course it happens to be country! The song that makes me think of Freddie the most lately is the one by the new band Nickel Creek called "When you Come Back Down". This is admittedly because of my own story "Angel de Dolores", since Angel is based on Freddie and the song has the following lines in it:
Your memory's the sunshine every new day brings;
I know the sky is calling--
Angel let me help you with your wings.
Cheryl Harrell 06-16-2001, 02:57 PM Countrys pretty good too. I dodn't really keep up with it to. If I listen to it on the radio it's usally this country station that plays alot of the old stuff... I never liked Country until I discovered Arlo Guthrie. He got me to like it. http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/smile.gif
I noticed on a couple of CATM's Freddie sings a country sounding song with a mock hillbilly voice. Cool!
Pitooey 06-16-2001, 05:32 PM I like everyone's choice of songs for Freddie! I never heard Everlast or the country song that butterfly referred to but. I'll check them out. I'm more of a person who likes a little bit of everything. Even opera!!
MariposaLKB 09-16-2001, 05:18 PM This afternoon our niece had her birthday party at the local roller-skating rink, and the last two songs they played during the time set aside for her party were "The Dance" by Garth Brooks, and "Go Rest High on That Mountain" by Vince Gill. The first one says, "I could have missed the pain, but I'd have had to miss the dance", and I thought of Freddie's studying dance and his potential to have been a ballet dancer. The second was written by Vince Gill for his friend Keith Whitley (husband of Lorrie Morgan), who died from alcohol poisoning. The line in that song which hit me in particular was "Wish I could see the angel's faces when they hear your sweet voice sing!" I thought of how Freddie never really got the chance to sing much in this life--I bet in heaven his sweet tenor is the most beautiful thing there! It was nice of the rink's owners to play something besides Backstreet Boys and 'Nsync, but I bet everyone there wondered why I left in tears!

"A friend is faithful, trusting, and helpful, someone that realizes your imperfections and stands by you."--Freddie Prinze
Prince 09-16-2001, 06:43 PM A song that most reminds me of Freddie is
"When You Come Back Down" by Nickel Creek.
Freddie was certainly an Angel and our Prince.
LADY LOVES FREDDIE 09-18-2001, 02:59 AM I have been thinking about this topic and theres so many songs Id love to slow dance with him, while I take him in my arms http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/blush.gif but Id say, ALONE by the BEE GEES. I love Freddie Prinze and I love the Bee gees and I pick that song because http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/crying.gif I feel that our poor Freddie felt alone, and maybie thats why he ended it.Most people to my knowledge, who end it feel empty inside http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/frown.gif and even though people did care like his mama God bless her! depression and events in his life I feel may have caused him to feel empty.SSSSSSSSSSSSOOOOOOOO very sad http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/frown.gif I love you Freddie....we all do! Great topic chicosladyfair!

Cheryl Harrell 09-18-2001, 03:38 AM One song which now reminds me of our Freddie is the song FREDDIES DEAD by the late soul singer Curtis Mayfield who used to be with the IMPRESSIONS. This song was on in 1972 or 73 & was from one of the SUPERFLY movies that was popular & out at that time. I have a 45 single (Little record with a big hole in it) of this. Recently it hit me how some of the words in it pertain to Freddie even tho it isn't written about our Freddie.
There the lines in it: " Everybody's misused him, ripped him off & abused him" "If you want to lead a junkies life remember Freddie's dead"... I'm sure our Freddie was bound to have heard the song back then & I bet he liked it too. I wish he had taken the words to heart...
hue_mee 09-18-2001, 02:06 PM Songs that remind me of Freddie. Well, me with my kooky sence of humor goes with the 70's Disco as I can imagine him dancing.
One other 70's song is a song by Bread " I would give everything I own". Just the memories of Freddie with is laughter and humor I have of him as I think of that Song.
MariposaLKB 09-18-2001, 03:51 PM Great choice, hue_mee! "I would give everything I own, just to have you back again"--wouldn't any of us?!
As for disco, I never did like it much but I have always loved the Bee Gees and I can imagine slow-dancing with Freddie to "How Deep is Your Love" from "Saturday Night Fever"! And one of their earlier songs applies to Freddie's life--"How Can You Mend a Broken Heart?" I could hear Freddie singing those two, or "Words" or "To Love Somebody"--any of their slow, romantic ballads.

Cheryl Harrell 09-19-2001, 01:00 AM EVERYBODY PLAYS THE FOOL by the Main Ingredient would be a good one for him. Not only did he love the Main Ingredient so I'm sure he knew this song but there are some words in the song that pertain to him:
"You say you're thinking about dying? Well before you do anything rash dig this. Everybody plays the fool, sometimes, no exception to the rule, listen baby, maybe factual maybe cruel, I ain't lying everybody plays the fool"....
[This message has been edited by Cheryl Harrell (edited 09-19-2001).]
LADY LOVES FREDDIE 09-19-2001, 02:13 PM Ahhhh yes Maraposa,That song by the Bee Gees,(How deep is your love) is indeed one of which I imagine Freddie and I slow dancing to.

Karen64 09-19-2001, 08:21 PM This song is pretty depressing; it was popular several months ago. It's by Papa Roach, called "Last Resort". Some of the lyrics:
Cut my life into pieces,
This is my last resort,
Suffocation,
No breathing,
Don't give a f*** if I cut my arm bleeding..
Its reminded me of the desperation our dear Freddie must have been feeling toward the end of his life... http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/frown.gif
I've gotta start listening to happier songs!!

Luckymama58 09-20-2001, 06:08 AM I don't know if this qualifies as a Freddie song, but I like to picture him singing it to me when I listen to it, even though it is sung by another heart throb of mine Jon Bon Jovi (though not as big a one as Freddie!). It is on their Crush album and the song is "Thank you for loving me" The lines I love to imagine mostly is the chorus:
"Thank you, for loving me.
For being my eyes, when I couldn't see.
For parting my lips when I couldn't breathe.
Thank you for loving me."
Man if he did that I know I would be thanking him! http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/wink.gif http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/kiss.gif http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/love.gif

Luckymama58 09-29-2001, 11:12 AM I have been hearing a song on the radio for weeks now that makes me think of Freddie every time it comes on. It is a slow, sad tune.
Artist: Five For Fighting
Album: America Town
Title: Superman
I can’t stand to fly
I’m not that naive
I’m just out to find
The better part of me
I’m more than a bird...I’m more than a plane
More than some pretty face beside a train
It’s not easy to be me
Wish that I could cry
Fall upon my knees
Find a way to lie
About a home I’ll never see
It may sound absurd...but don’t be naive
Even Heroes have the right to bleed
I may be disturbed...but won’t you conceed
Even Heroes have the right to dream
It’s not easy to be me
Up, up and away...away from me
It’s all right...You can all sleep sound tonight
I’m not crazy...or anything...
I can’t stand to fly
I’m not that naive
Men weren’t meant to ride
With clouds between their knees
I’m only a man in a silly red sheet
Digging for kryptonite on this one way street
Only a man in a funny red sheet
Looking for special things inside of me
It’s not easy to be me.

MariposaLKB 09-29-2001, 11:41 AM I was fortunate enough last night to be at the first show of Neil Diamond's world tour, and he sang a couple of songs near the end of the show that I hadn't thought about in years, which Freddie could have written and sung. One was "I Am I Said", which I will just summarize by saying that it is about a New Yorker moving to LA and feeling completely out of place. The other was "Shilo", which I think is addressed to a child's imaginary friend by that person as an adult looking back over the life he has lived--dreaming alone, being distant from his father, and losing his dreams because he loved a woman who didn't understand and left him because of them. Here it is (muchas gracias Luckymama!):
SHILO
Young child with dreams
Dream ev'ry dream on your own
When children play
seems like you end up alone
Papa says he'd love to be with you
If he had the time
So you turn on the only friend you can find
There in your mind
Shilo, when I was young
I used to call your name
When no one else would come
Shilo, you always came
And we'd play
Young girl with fire
Something said she understood
I wanted to fly
She made me feel like I could
Held my hand out, and I let her take me
Blind as a child
All I saw was the way that she made me smile
She made me smile
Shilo, when I was young
I used to call your name
When no one else would come
Shilo, you always came
And you'd stay
Had a dream, and it filled me with wonder
She had other plans
"Got to go, and I know that you'll understand"
I understand
Shilo, when I was young
I used to call your name
When no one else would come
Shilo, you always came
Come today

Pitooey 09-29-2001, 07:50 PM I have another tune that reminds me of Freddie... It's also sung by Bread........
It's called "If" - I love that song and I remember it came out around that time..... Maybe someone knows the year it came out. This one also reminds me of Freddie.
Whenever I hear it I think of him........... http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/crying.gif

chicosladyfair 10-02-2001, 05:09 PM My goodness, there are so many songs that remind me of Freddie...my tastes change all the time. There is one song that I have that reminds me of him. Let me set the stage...
I live about 8 hours away from Los Angeles. If I was to get in my car it wouldn't be long till I got there. The freeway between here and there is flat, lonely, and littered with truck stops. This song reminds me if I was to get in my car and drive to L.A. to see a certain hot Latin man. It's called "4:30" and it's by Sara Evans.
It's been so long I should be used to this by now...
Loneliness that keeps coming back around...
The moon on my window cast a different light...
On all these memories that keep me up tonight.
Hey, I know just what I need...it's you and in a hurry.
If I got on the road right now I"d see ya at 4:30
I think I have about 16 miles of gasoline left in my car...
There's an all night truck stop, I bet I could get that far...
I can close my eyes and smell coffee in the air...
I'll fill my cup, if you ain't up...I'll soon be there.
Hey, I'm letting go so baby don't you worry...
Wheels on ground, I won't slow down...and I'll see ya at 4:30
I won't allow my mind to talk me out of this...
Past every exit sign cause that's the way it is...
Hey, I know just what I need...it's you and in a hurry...if I got on the road right now...I'd see ya at 4:30
Hey, I'm letting go so baby don't you worry...
Wheels on ground, I won't slow down and I'll see ya at 4:30
By The Way: I recommend to everyone to get Sara Evans new album. It's called "Born To Fly". She used to be a back-up singer for Vince Gill...the girl can sing her butt off and this album is loaded with Freddie songs. Every song on this CD is so good. It's well worth the money.
MariposaLKB 10-14-2001, 02:35 PM When Luckymama visited me this weekend, we went to a music store and she bought a CD of Andrew Lloyd Weber music. This song is from "Phantom of the Opera":
You were once my one companion
You were all that mattered
You were once a friend and father
Then my world was shattered
Wishing you were somehow here again
Wishing you were somehow near
Sometimes it seemed if I just dreamed
Somehow you would be here
Wishing I could hear your voice again
Knowing that I never would
Dreaming of you won't help me to do
All that you dreamed I could
Passing bells and sculpted angels
Cold and monumental
Seem for you the wrong companions
You were warm and gentle
Too many years fighting back tears
Why can't the past just die?
Wishing you were somehow here again
Knowing we must say goodbye
Try to forgive, teach me to live
Give me the strength to try
No more memories, no more silent tears
No more gazing across the wasted years
Help me say goodbye
Help me say goodbye

"A friend is faithful, trusting, and helpful, someone that realizes your imperfections and stands by you."--Freddie Prinze
chicosladyfair 10-15-2001, 01:12 PM I just saw a new video by Enrique Iglasias called "Hero". It's a mini-movie with Jennifer Love Hewitt and Mickey Roarke with a very Santa Fe feel to it...and extremely romantic. Perfect Freddie material. If you get the chance to see this video on MTV just picture Freddie in the lead role.
Pitooey 10-15-2001, 03:51 PM I can't picture Freddie in it. I've already seen the video. http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/crying.gif At the end he dies. http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/crying.gif
Pitooey 10-15-2001, 03:54 PM Sorry Chicosladyfair........ It's that when Enrique is dying in the rain it gets to me. http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/crying.gif I can see him in the Madonna Toreador video. http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/biggrin.gif The one where she's on the train and she's singing and thinking of the bull fighter. Ole!! http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
chicosladyfair 10-15-2001, 10:11 PM O.K...maybe that wasn't the best pick...but the song is really pretty.
Has the song "My Heart Will Go On" from Titanic been mentioned yet?
Or how about "La Isla Bonita" by Madonna?
Pitooey 10-16-2001, 01:44 PM http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/rotflmao.gif Yes the Enrique song "Hero" is a beautiful song. I can see Isla Bonita with Freddie. Is Enrique really going out with Jennifer Love Hewitt? I heard that after making the "Hero" video that he became her hero so to speak......
Pitooey 10-16-2001, 01:46 PM I can see him in "Titanic" - My heart will go on.
MariposaLKB 11-29-2001, 07:36 PM While I was on vacation in Florida for Thanksgiving, I heard many songs on the radio that reminded me of Freddie, but this one hit me particularly hard, since I often wonder if Freddie will know any of us if or when we see him in the afterlife, and because I believe that if we do get to heaven we will never cry again. For those who may not know, this was written by Eric Clapton after the death of his four-year-old son Connor, who fell from a window in his mother's apartment.
Tears In Heaven
Would you know my name if I saw you in heaven?
Would it be the same if I saw you in heaven?
I must be strong and carry on,
Cause I know I don't belong here in heaven.
Would you hold my hand if I saw you in heaven?
Would you help me stand if I saw you in heaven?
I'll find my way through night and day,
Cause I know I just can't stay here in heaven.
Time can bring you down, time can bend your knees.
Time can break your heart, have you begging please, begging please.
Beyond the door there's peace I'm sure,
And I know there'll be no more tears in heaven.

MariposaLKB 12-28-2001, 10:51 AM Anyone remember the group Survivor, who performed the song "Eye of the Tiger" in one of the Rocky movies? I bought one of their albums called "Vital Signs" years ago for the song "The Search is Over", but since rediscovering Freddie, I have found that every song on it seems to apply to what I know about his life. In particular, the last song on the album, "I See You in Everyone" expresses what seems to happen to me all the time now--everything reminds me of him! I especially like the first line about candlelight, knowing that Freddie loved candles.
Every night, a fleeting glimpse of candlelight
Chases 'cross the atmosphere, but you're not here
And I see the shape of moonlight on the cityscape
But now the skyline wears a shroud
I hear your voice in every crowd
Listening for your footsteps in every hallway
Watching for your headlights around the bend
I can see you standing in every doorway
Out in the street, in every glance
I see your reflection, I fall in a trance
Can't you see what I've become
It's making me crazy, I see you in everyone
Day by day, I watch the memories slip away
And traces of reality come back to me
Then I see your face, somewhere in a distant place
The fantasy has gone too far
I close my eyes and there you are
I can see you standing in every doorway
I can feel your heartbeat, I hear your voice
And hiding in my shadow you're with me always
Out in the street, in every glance
I see your reflection, I fall in a trance
You can't know what you have done
I see you in everyone, in everyone (see you in everyone)
In the night I see your eyes
From every direction a different disguise
Can't you see what I've become
It's making me crazy, I see you in everyone
You can't know what you have done
It's making me crazy, I see you in everyone
tylersmistress2002 12-28-2001, 11:57 AM Wow! That sounds like a great Song......and OOOO so true! There are times when EVERYTHING around me reminds me of Freddie....its actually kinda scarey sometimes. I didnt know he liked candles....I burn them every night. My X says I must have been a witch in a past life!.... I WISH.. lol
hue_mee 12-28-2001, 03:24 PM Here is asong some of you aware of because you were kind to introduce this song to me.
Five for fightings - Superman ( It's not easy)

tylersmistress2002 12-31-2001, 10:27 AM OK, for anyone who has the video "Can You Hear The Laughter"...I believe it is the song you hear in the closing....I can't remember all of it right now....but it was very sad.....I DEFINATELY identified Freddie with it.....one of the lines I do remember was "I love you for who you are...not for who you feel you have to be." I can't watch that movie again right now. Its just too sad. But I do remember I liked the song, sad as it was.
