It is funny how something just reaches out and grabs you, how little coincidences hit your life. I was in the teacher's lounge at my school the other day and saw a picture and story on the cover of one of the latest editions of Teacher magazine. It was of a female PE teacher that had gotten attacked by a former student and her recovery and return to teaching. What struck me was the tee shirt she was wearing. It said "The LaGuardia School of the Performing Arts"!!!! I immediately took the magazine to my copy machine and copied the 8 page article to read at my leisure later. I knew that Freddie would not be mentioned, but it was a very interesting article about how even some of the finest schools in the nation are not immune to the violence in our schools today. I did think of Freddie when the article spoke of the pressures some of the students at this school are under to succeed. I wondered if Freddie felt some of that same pressure. The girl who attacked the teacher did it at the graduation she should have attended, but couldn't because she had failed this teacher's health class. They presented the reasons why and as a teacher, I could see why she was failed. I know school is demanding on all of our students. I guess I share this with you because, as an educator, I hope everyone will keep all of our teachers and students in your prayers. We live in an increasingly violent world and the threat of assault is all to real for any teacher or student no matter what school you are in. Thank you for allowing me to share this topic with you!
