I didnt think he was cheap. He just didnt want them to be spoiled. Look @ them. They are obviously upper middle class. Big house, nice clothes. And, he took them EVERYWHERE!! He also bought presents for them too. Lanterns, etc. The girls were always getting new dresses and outfits. I dont think he was that strict either. He let Greg have his office and then the attic. Also, Greg later on, had his own car.. I doubt he bought all himself..looked pretty new to me!

At that time, you could afford a lot with only two dollars, it may not be much but it was enough for one child to use.

He may have been a little strict but after all, he was the only one in the household that worked, and he probably couldn't afford to give all six of their children allowance each week.

Hey....now don't go knocking down wives who choose to stay at home, as if we are lazy or something!

I am a stay-at-home wife with three children, and that is the choice I have made. We are not upper-class or anything, we have to make a few sacrifices for this arrangement, but it is somethng we are willing to make.

My kids are going to be young only once, so I am relishing every minute I can with them! I know it sounds corny to some, but my family life is very much like the Brady Bunch, but I have strived to make it so. That show was always my favorites growing up, and I swore I would have a family like that one day!

We do not allow our children to watch the garbage on TV these days (although they love my BB shows I have on tape! ) because I think modern TV shows nothing but a bunch of dysfunctional families. We all eat together EVERY night, my kids come to us with their problems, get along with each other, we do a lot of things together as a family, and my husband and I get along as best friends. ( I just wish we had an "Alice!" )

It all depends on what you want out of life. Have a goal, and GO FOR IT! It WILL happen! Neighbor kids come to our house and never want to go back home to their homes because they like the way our family gets along so well! That, right there, says a lot, so I feel fortunate that I HAVE accomplished what I wanted to in my life! :) Don't give up hope!

To Elizabeth B. and the rest...come on, i'm just poking fun at the Brady Bunch; i'm not implying stay home moms are lazy at all...i happen to agree with you're life style 100%..i wish more people had your additude, but these days of day care centers, Hi-Tech and TV violence, children are growing up WAY WAY too fast...i think kids need to experience life the old fashioned way, so they appreciate things more !!

I think he was just trying to teach the kids the value of a dollar.

Don't worry--I wasn't really offended!:)

Sorry I haven't replied until now--I've been offline for two weeks because we moved, so I didn't want you thinking I didn't respond because I was angry or something! Wouldn't be very "Brady" of me!!!

Besides, I think we stay-at-home-moms are "ultra-glamourous and super-cool!"

Absolutely agree with you. Carol Brady as a stay at home mum is a SO much more positive role model than the mum's on these modern sit coms who i wouldn't have wanted as a mum in a million years.

Also, Greg later on, had his own car.. I doubt he bought all himself..looked pretty new to me!

Aside from the junker he bought himself which fell apart and was sold to the junk man, when did Greg ever have his own car?

Mike must have pulled in a decent salary, plus nice commissions/bonuses on projects he designed, etc.

Carol, later embarked on a career in real estate--which pays very well itself. That must have helped pay for the nice renovations (and the extra bathroom) we saw in "A Very Brady Xmas"

The only car Greg ever had was a junker that he did buy himself, and he had it for only one episode.
