View Full Version : Cosby at Nite is adding Roseanne
jon123 01-08-2003, 08:56 PM I know this doesn't belong here and will probably be moved, but Cosby at Nite is adding Roseanne to its lineup in September. Just another example of an overrated and unfunny recent show that will probably also be run four times a night at the expense of true classics like AITF.
Brad Russ 01-09-2003, 04:48 AM I Love Roseanne and I think in many ways it's alot like All In The Family. It's a show about a working class family, and it was definitely one of the most controversial shows of it's generation just like AITF was in the 70's. Roseanne is actually one of my five favorite shows and iv'e honestly never understood why so many AITF fans dislike it. But I guess to each his own. Personally I think having a couple episodes of Roseanne each night followed by a couple AITF episodes is a perfect combination.
jon123 01-09-2003, 11:51 AM I will admit that Roseanne had some funny moments, but on the whole I thought it stank. I expect the next show that Cosby at Nite will pick up will be Home Improvement, another one that was not that funny and was overrated.
I know many will not agree with me on this next point, but if you like raunchy comedy-I wish Cosby at Nite would pick up Married with Children rather than Roseanne. I admit it is also my male hormones-I would much rather look at Christina Applegate than Roseanne's fat ass.
As to comparing Roseanne with AITF, also look at what the actors have done in society, all of AITF four principals were involved in huminitarian and progressive social causes, while Roseanne made an even bigger ass of herself by making fun of our National Anthem when she "sang" it at a San Diego Padres game once.
DarleneIllyria 01-09-2003, 02:17 PM This can only spell the end of AITF's 'good' timeslot. I wouldn't be at all surprised if this pushes the show back even further schedule wise.
They seriously need to get 3's Company on an earlier timeslot. This morning the gang was betting on horses or something, and the episode looked really funny. I didn't stay up and watch it. I didn't tape it either. I had already missed a few minutes and I'm the kind of person that prefers getting the whole show on tape, not miss 5 or 6 minutes of it and then record the rest.
Edit: Place your bets, what do you think the new N @ N schedule will be? Let's see who gets the closest.
Here's mine:
9 p.m.- The Cosby Show
9:30 p.m.- The Cosby Show
10:00 p.m- Roseanne
10:30 p.m.- Roseanne
11:00 p.m.- Cheers
11:30p.m- Cheers
12:00 a.m- Roseanne
12:30 a.m. Roseanne
1:00 a.m.- The Cosby Show
1:30 a.m- The Cosby Show
2:00 a.m- Coach
2:30 a.m- Coach
3:00 a.m- All in the Family
3:30 a.m- Three's Company
4:00 a.m- Family Ties
4:30 a.m-Charles in Charge
5:00 a.m- Happy Days
5:30 a.m- The Brady Bunch
*NOTE- This is NOT a dream schedule. This is a prediction schedule.*
Brian 01-09-2003, 08:07 PM I think it's very thoughtful and considerate of you to let people know about this but this is going to turn into a discussion of Roseanne and that is what the Roseanne board is for.

I see what your saying, but when I watch a tv show I don't choose whether or not i'm going to watch based on the things the actors choose to do, or what the choose not to do in there personal lives. If I like a show and think it's funny i'm going to watch regardless of the actors personal lives. And also just because we haven't heard about Roseanne or some of the other shows cast doing humanitarian work doesn't mean that they don't. Some people just like to keep those things private.

Why does it have to come back to Roseanne being fat?...So is that why you don't like the show because shes fat???...If so thats a pretty silly reason...Archie Bunker was FAT too...
Brad Russ 01-10-2003, 02:33 AM You make a great point Adam. I actually made the same point awhile back when someone was putting down the Golden Girls because of the way the actresses look. Personally when I watch a tv show I don't watch to be attracted to the people on the screen, I watch simply to laugh, and be entertained. I don't see what Roseanne's weight has to do with anything either. Unfortunately it seems like these days in order to be accepted in entertainment if your a woman you need to look like Pamela Anderson or something. Just look at all the current sitcoms that are on today and you can see that. Roseanne was a show about real people, not Hollywood's version of people and I miss that. Hopefully Roseanne will be on Nick At Nite for a long time as one of the few shows left to represent real people.
jon123 01-10-2003, 11:24 AM It doesn't come down to whether Archie was fat or not, it is that when Archie said something stupid there was always someone around to make fun of it or correct him, and when Roseanne said something stupid, well you should get the point.
TvTalk101 01-10-2003, 03:41 PM Jon 123...
The fact that Archie was fat wasn't the point of my post and it wasn't to put down the show either. I simply made the statement that your post seems to come back to the fact that you didn't like Roseanne simply because she doesn't have the body of Christina Applegate. Or at least thats what it seemed to mean anyway. So the reason I mentioned Archie was to remind you that FAT has nothing to do with comedy. I just wanted you to remember that....If you don't like Roseanne just say I don't like it..Don't cough it up to the fact that she is (WAS) fat...Its just not very considerate to base you views of a person on their looks...I'm sure many times Christina Applegate has been labeled as an air head but we know thats not a postive assumption to make...
mdntrider7 ..Thanks for your support and I agree with what you said 100%...

jon123 01-11-2003, 12:07 AM Yes, I don't like Roseanne, not because she was fat, but because I don't like her personality and attitude, and I don't like her show. If you want a show about real people, we have it in AITF and many others. But if you like Roseanne, that is great, I am glad that you will have plenty to enjoy-it will probably be on four times a night like Cosby is.
I agree that Christina Applegate's character (Kelly Bundy) was a stupid airhead on MWC. And I could watch her be stupid all day. That show is targeted for horny males like myself who sometimes need escapism from this crazy world.

jon123 01-11-2003, 01:49 PM I apologize to anyone who was offended by my remark. It was meant to be tongue in cheek. I certainly did not imply that anyone who is overweight has no place on TV-that is real messed up. I only meant to make fun of Roseanne because in my opinion she has done much on and off screen to deserve it.
For you Roseanne fans, happy viewing!
