View Full Version : Light a Candle
Luckymama58 11-01-2001, 10:46 AM Lighting a Candle....
Tomorrow is the feast of All Souls Day. In the Catholic tradition, it is the day we honor all of our dearly departed souls. It comes after All Saints Day, which honors all the Saints in heaven. One way that we honor people and pray in my church is to light a
candle for them. I would like to remember Freddie Prinze in this manner tomorrow and
was wondering if anyone would like to join me. We could pick a time, for me it would
have to be evening after work, and we could light a candle and say a prayer or have a
moment of silent remembrance for a man that has touched us all. What do you think?

Luckymama58 11-01-2001, 04:28 PM Yes Chicosladyfair, 5 pm PST and 7 pm CST. You don't have to be Catholic, BTW, I just thought it would be a nice thing to do as a group if you wanted to and I'm glad you all do. 8pm is great for me too so I think it's all set. I even have a Toasted Hazelnut candle that Mariposa gave me to light. It will help me to remember him as I'm praying for him, like I need help remembering HIM! http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/lol.gif

chicosladyfair 11-01-2001, 06:52 PM How long are we gonna leave our candles burning? Is there a customary amount of time or can we burn them for as long as we want?
I love candles so it's no problem for me to light 10 or so for Freddie..LOL.
Cheryl Harrell 11-01-2001, 08:37 PM We can't light one as we may be at hubbys cousins tomorrow nite but I will definately pray. http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/smile.gif God Bless you Freddie.
Forgot to mention this weird incident. The other nite I was watching some CATM epsiodes with my hubby & one of the lightbulbs in the den got brighter when I mentioned Freddie. I told my hubby I wonder if Freddie made that happen from heaven? So I said Freddie if your up there in heaven & are doing okay can you give me a sign to let me know you are up there & okay? Well, I later forgot about it until... Sometime later I heard a loud boom that started me. So I got my hubby to go with me & check it out. I turnd out that a candle I had in a candle holder in the dining room had fallen down onto the floor & made that noise! I wonder if Freddie caused that? Weird huh????

atlangel 11-01-2001, 10:55 PM Cheryl, I believe he is still with us, hears our conversations, sees our devotion to him, and feels the love we have for him.
Thank-you Luckymama for presenting this lovely and unifying tribute. I am honored to join all of you tomorrow at 8 p.m. for the candle lighting.

Luckymama58 11-02-2001, 10:46 PM Well, I lit six candles and prayed silently for about 15 minutes. It was a wonderful experience. I really could sense his smile on me as I prayed for him and all my loved ones who have gone on before us. I could also feel you all too, as you joined me. I thank you and Freddie thanks you too! http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/wink.gif

Cheryl Harrell 11-03-2001, 07:10 AM I was a little late praying as we were at Mikes cousins but I did pray silently for him. I didn't get to burn a candle being over there but my thoughts were with him...
MariposaLKB 11-03-2001, 10:05 AM I had never done this before, but it was a very sweet experience that I wanted to share with all of you. I have a Toasted Hazelnut candle like Luckymama mentioned, because the scent reminds us of Freddie. I put it on my tall dresser so I was standing with the candle at my eye level. After lighting it and watching it for a few moments, I took off my glasses because I was afraid I would cry and get them messed up. I closed my eyes and started to pray for all the people I love who had died, for assurance that they are with God. Then I prayed for those who are still alive but don't yet follow God or are following the wrong path (such as cults), that they would come to truly know Him. I saved my prayer for Freddie for last, asking for assurance that he was with God and happy now after all he had been through in this life. I then opened my eyes, and because I wasn't wearing my glasses the candle's flame looked bigger, and in it I thought I could see Freddie's face, laughing. I couldn't hear his laugh but the flame seemed to dance with it. I never did cry--I was so happy knowing that Freddie is happy!

Cheryl Harrell 11-03-2001, 11:05 AM Neat! Thanks for sharing that with us!
atlangel 11-03-2001, 01:53 PM Oh Mariposa! Thank-you for sharing your beautiful prayers and feelings. Now I am crying due to your inspiring words.
I moved one of his pictures to my dining room table where I lit two candles. I said prayers for him and I also talked to him. It was awesome knowing that all of us were pausing for a moment in unity and in remembrance of someone so beloved.
This was a great tribute and I hope we will do it again -- soon and often.
Thanks to all of you! Bless you Freddie and peace be unto you!
hue_mee 11-03-2001, 03:03 PM As I prayed last night My lighted candle burned for the memory of Freddie. I thanked God for taking Freddie into Heaven. Thanked God for the assurance of Knowing that Freddie is now at peace. I then prayed to let Freddie know he is still loved and how much we all miss his laughter and love.
I light a second candle for all those who have lost loved ones from the september 11 situation. My third candle was for the Friends I've made through Fredddie Prinze.I prayed for strength, courage, guidance, and wisdom. In that we can live a life that Freddie and our Lord would of have wanted. A life of love and peace.
