That's a question I've been wondering for a long time. If a guy exposes his chest on TV (Like Soap Operas), then I guess there's no problem, but if a girl does, they would consider it inappropiate. Why do you think guys get to expose thier stuff, but girls can't? I have seen guys with pecs as big as women before. I see some of my male classmates take thier shirt off in the gym when playing basketball, but if it were a woman, then they would have to put it back on. What do you think? I mean they'er the same thing, but it is different sexes.

I can see why it would be inapprpriate for girls to take off their shirts in public but I can't tell you how many times during the summer when it's really hot and I'm around guys who take off their shirts and I'm thinking, "It's not fair! I wouldn't be this hot if I could do that too!" Ahh, one of the many double standards that exists in society.

For the same reason that girls can shave their legs, but guys can't. ;)

That's how I always thought about it. I can't deny that if I was around a guy that I really liked and he took his shirt off, I wouldn't be exactly begging him to put his shirt back on. It does tend to leave more to the imagination if he kept the rest of his clothes on.

that brings up this point...its perfectly acceptable to go running or something and just wear a sports bra and no one thinks anything of it, but if you wore one normally people would get definite ideas.

In a way it is unfair to the guys. For instance, Girls have the easy opportunity to "check out" the guy's chest, back, ect. per say like at a swimming pool. But for guys to check out a girl's chest, back, ect. is a hard because they aren't topless at the swimming pool like the guys are.

Well, we can't walk around topless because it's such an....searching for a benign, yet active word....inconvience. I mean....they're right there and without a bra, they're....not very helpful and....you guys get what I'm saying, if you don't and you're a girl, take off your shirt, no bra, and do some household activities. If you're a guy, attach two filled waterballoons and do the same.

Here it is right here - over the last thousand (or more) years or so, the female breasts have become sexualized, probably due to them being covered by clothing most of the time. And because of that, women don't generally go topless in public. If they did, I'd never go to work... unless the women there were topless, too.
