I know what you're talking about. It was the first of 6 supermarionation series created by Gerry and Sylvia Anderson. Here are the others and how long they ran.

Supercar (1960-1962)
Fireball XL5 (1962-1963)
Stingray (1963-1965)
Thunderbirds (1964-1966)
Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons (1967-1968)
Joe 90 (1968-?)

Stingray, Thunderbirds, and Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons are available on Region 1 DVD. Fireball XL5 is coming out on Region 1 DVD in February.

Useless trivia for Mystery Science Theater 3000 fans. The very first episodes of MST3K featured "Invaders from the Deep" (4 episodes of "Stingray" edited togther) and "Revenge of the Mysterons" (4 episodes of Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons" edited together). Unfortunately, there are no fan copies of those episodes and they can never be shown on TV again for legal reasons: KTMA (the low-budget local station that first ran the show) never secured the proper rights to these movies.
