how do I get a picture as part of my signature in a post (ex: Pavandabal has a pic of John ritter as his signature)

can anyone tell me?

I'm so bad at this sort of stuff. Can anyone tell me how to change a picture that I find on the web with an art. extension to jpg or jpeg?
I can capture and save the pic if it's jpeg or whatever but most of them are 'art' and those ones I can't post on SO.

Right click on the picture, and click "Properties". Then in the little box that pops up, there should be something that says "Address [URL]" copy that code and put it in the code above and your all set!

If it's a .jpg, .bmp, .gif or .jpeg, you should have no problem posting it, but if it's .art, hmmm.... can you open it in Paint, then click "Save As" and pick a different file type to save it as? If that doesn't work, (I haven't done this in a while- I forget what works and what doesn't) then just capture it and save it as a .jpeg

Thanks. okay this is what I do I send the Picture back to Myself then when it comes to me I click on it to save it I go down to "Save as" and where it says ART I click on that and scroll down until it says JPEG and then I use it in here and in my other MBS I hope I helped a little with that

Try another pic Marlene.... sometimes certain servers have blocks that don't allow you to take their pictures..

Right, and art pics can't be attached. I don't even want to do one now, but I've wanted to it the past and couldn't. I had a devil of a time finding a new avatar with a jpg extension.
I want to know how to convert an art file to one that can be attached. I tried Caitlin's way but it didn't work for me. I have AOL, so maybe that's messing things up.

Janice, open the file as an .art, then take a screen capture of it (Print Screen), hit "paste" in PAINT, use the cutting tool to crop the capture: part that you want of course, hit CUT

File>>New>>Don't save

Now that you've got a new window...>>right click>>paste, adjust the paint window if you have to, File>>Save as...>> then scroll to .jpeg. That should work.

I didn't know I could. It was defaulted to Adobe. I opened and renamed it under AOL, which didn't have the jp things, but did have txt, so here goes.

Ok this is an easy way-

1] Attach the picture to your post. If you don't know how to do that, tell me.

2] Once the picture is attached, right click on it and click 'properties'.

3] In the little box that comes up, in the middle of it you should find something that says "Address (URL)".

4] Copy and paste that into this code and put the code in your signature- <img src=" addy here ">
