Excuse me while I get my rant on...

Okay, so, we all know TV Land edits out a few minutes of every episode, right? The thing that *really* gets me, though, is that they describe some of those scenes in their episode descriptions on their website, thus, annoying some people. Why put it in the episode description if it's not in the episode? :angryfire

Example: Here's the ep description from tvland.com for today's episode "Slave Girl."

""When Gilligan rescues a young island girl named Kalani from drowning, she throws herself at his feet declaring she will be his slave forever. The Professor says she belongs to a tribe of headhunters on a neighboring island and if Gilligan refuses Kalani as his slave he insults her whole tribe. This would result in the headhunting tribesmen declaring war on the castaways. ***Kalani turns out to be a most entertaining dancer and the men start to neglect their chores as they pay more and more attention to their new female friend. As a result, the women hold a council of war to divert the men's attention from the beautiful girl. Mary Ann suggests dumping a stupendous load of unnecessary work on poor Kalani. As a result, the slave begins to get quite frazzled.*** The Professor tells Gilligan that, according to tribal law, the only way Kalani is allowed to end her servitude to him is if he's mortally wounded in combat. Thurston Howell III then fights a mock sword duel with Gilligan and Gilligan is seemingly killed. But Howell now has a new worry in the sudden appearance of a huge, angry native warrior who claims to be Kalani's suitor.""

Okay, fair enough...EXCEPT that the part in the ***asterixes*** is edited out of the episode. It cuts right to Gilligan pretending to be mortally wounded so Kalani will be Howell's slave instead. Thanks, TV Land.
I would pay GOOD MONEY to see "the jealous women's war council." Bah.

Rant off...

*GASP!* WHY do they ALWAYS edit out the GOOD parts???!!!! why??!! i would LOVE to see that! "council of war" LOL! that would be hilarious! and the men "pay more and more attention to their new female friend" hey! what's wrong with their old female friends? it's like they're blind to Ginger and Mary Ann...but some new chick shows up...and WOW! *shakes head and mumbles* stupid idiots. lol, sorry, i'm just a little ticked at their slow reluctance to pay more and more attention to the girls that are so obviously flirting with THEM (except the skipper. but he doesn't count cause he doesn't make a cute couple with either one of them). ugh! men!

part of me didn't even want to know there was more to that episode....cause now i'll always be missing it. just like the movie episode where they edit out most of the kiss thing, and like in goodbye island where they cut out all the cute proffy/ginger scenes. GRRRR!!! WHY WHY WHY???!!! they shouldn't even have to edit them at all. we don't really need to see commercials for liberty medical, profina debt solutions, IDT long distance, and Sears products over and over again, do we? all i have to say is......ALL THREE SEASONS HAD BETTER COME OUT ON DVD!!! i will gladly hand over my money for the chance to see every episode un-edited.

i have to admit though.....knowing there's more little bits here and there of GI that i've never seen keeps the excitement alive. when i first got into it, it was always new and exciting to see an episode that i'd never seen before, but now that i've seen them all....it's kinda sad cause there's nothing else left. but those little bits that i know i'm missing adds to the "newness" of it. but don't let tv land know....they might start cutting even more out. lol

I've seen the edited parts of the movie episode on TBS. It's great. It's getting all fast and then in slow-mo and then random close-ups of various stuff. lol.
I don't remember seeing the "Slave Girl" episode on TBS...so I donno if they kept it in. Stoopid TBS had to go and take the show out of their schedule.

Like, I know there's stuff I've never seen b/c of editing, but TV Land has go and put it in their description like it was actually part of the episode they were gonna show. *That* pisses me off.

**sigh** I NEED THE DVDs!

lol, i saw the un-edited movie episode on TBS like, 5 years ago...before i was really a fan of the show. but i remembered that episode. THAT was the one that got me on the whole prof/ginger thing and convinced me that they were so totally for each other. even before i was a fan i thought so. i actually started my professor crush long ago....i just never kept up with the show....and then we got rid of the cable. we got it back less than a year ago...and i got hooked. so my professor crush was revived to a new level. lol. that sounds so....obsessive. oh well. so i would have been a fan much earlier most likely. i can even vaguely remember looking up Russell Johnson online when i got the internet....but only vaguely. so anyway (i got off subject a little there....oops) when i got addicted to the show and i saw that the movie one was going to be on....i got all hyper and i couldn't wait to see it again. well, suffice it to say i was tremendously dissapointed. i'm happy that i have a good memory and i can remember most of what they said....but dang...i really want to see it again!

Wow, that's alot. lol.

Uncut "The Postman Cometh" would be classic. I have no idea what we're missing...although there is one scene TV Land edits out that I remember from TBS about the Howells saying they should have a party because Mary Ann isn't all upset about "the news." She gets kinda insulted, it's great. LOL.

Good points about TV Land's GI episodes!

You know what, I think Hallmark Channel may edit GI WORSE than TV Land does (and I think they have different edits than TV Land does, right?)

I don't know about how they edit Gilligan's Island, but I've compared their edits of My Three Sons with episodes taped from a local channel. I noticed that The Hallmark Channel tended to removed snarky and un-pc remarks. For example, in "Charley's Tea" they removed the end of a scene where Katie told Uncle Charley "I'm going to go put on my makeup if it's alright with you!" They also edited out a line where Robbie says to Uncle Charley "That's what girls like. They like to have a tea and sit around and cut up their friends."

We didn't have TVLand when they aired My Three Sons so I don't know if these are the same edits they made.

I found out TV LAND has INTERNS doing the editing so they can get some editing experience-lol

That explains A LOT.

Just my personal opinon, but I wouldn't use the phrase "editing skills" when referring to what TV Land does to old classics. I tend to think of them more as butchering techniques.

yeah they are very badly butchered. I was watching a tape from Nick at Nite for the heck of it and with out commercials it was 22 minutes long where as on the DVD its 26 or 27 Minutes long.

Actually the DVD's are a little shorter than 26-27 minutes but not by much! The times I get from the counter are between 25:20 to 25:30 on average. Episodes from Nick at Nite/TV Land generally run no longer than 22 minutes. Additionally, Hallmark Channal, which I understand uses different edits, is just as bad as the others if not worse. Syndicate versions I can't reemeber exactly but I think that those ran about 23 minutes.

You are getting on the DVD's an average of 2:30 to 3:30 of additional footage that you can't see anywhere else.
