View Full Version : Sitcoms On Kazaa, etc.
SBTB Geek 12-29-2002, 08:44 PM Does anyone else download sitcoms from Internet sites like Kazaa, and WinMx?
I've downloaded a couple episodes of ALF, Saved By The Bell, and Friends.
DarleneIllyria 12-29-2002, 09:20 PM It's not a sitcom, but I've downloaded half an episode of Beavis and Butthead. It takes way too long to download stuff like that on my computer. That's the only show that I've ever tried to download.
Brian 12-29-2002, 09:31 PM Right now, I'm downloading two Mystery Science Theater 3000 episodes.
AJ2086 12-29-2002, 11:10 PM I've gottne Friends, Absolutely Fabulous, That 70's Show, and others.
Sitcomwriter 12-30-2002, 12:57 AM I know they have That's My Bush and Curb Your Enthusiasm on there as well.
dawsongirl 12-30-2002, 03:07 PM I didn't even know you could! But my internet connection is too slow.
DetectiveGriffin 12-30-2002, 03:11 PM Ive downloaded a couple eps of titus in that divx format, but most of them were poor quality - either bad captures or a bad gen from a tape trade. :(
shocolah 12-30-2002, 07:56 PM I will never download any videos ever again. About a month ago, I tried to download The Wizard of Oz movie and it took 14 hours (and I have cable internet). Anyway, what happened was after I got it downloaded, somehow, 14,000 other files got into my computer. Then, I couldn't play anything in my music files. So, I uninstalled Kazaa and tried to reinstall it and all those 14,000 files were right back there. I lost all my dowloaded songs and I'm screwed! So, be careful what you download with videos...you may end up sorry that you did it.
DetectiveGriffin 12-30-2002, 08:23 PM whoa! thats evil!
Ive never really had any probs other than posting up hard to find rare things, having a ton of people downloading them, and then no one sharing them. :(
Did you reinstall windows?
And can anyone recommend a good firewall program --- my brother just got a cable modem a few months ago and he downloaded a freeware firewall or something. forget that!
Janice 12-30-2002, 08:28 PM Does downloading all this stuff use up a lot of space on your harddrive and slow your system down?
What about trying to get older shows from the 50s and 60s that can be taped straight from channels like TV Land (or CTS!) or from old VHS tapes? There's a long list of shows I'd like to see on there but so far all that's shown up is "The Twilight Zone" on my WinMx screen. Can anyone help me here?
Truth 12-30-2002, 11:31 PM Kazaa is evil......

It's half evil to me. Okay, I updated Kazaa one time and it installed this Gator program. Gator was kind of cool. It showed up whenever I had to type in a password.
Well, a few weeks ago this stop sign showed up on the desktop. I delete from the desktop and don't think nothing of it. This stop sign was still on the computer though and it flashes up saying I have all these infected files. I thought it was kind of weird that Norton didn't detect any of these infected files. I start combing my way through all my files and I get rid of most of the Stop Sign/ E Anthology files except for one. It took a few hours to get that damn thing to delete. It was read only and it would not let me delete it.
I played around with a few more files and deleted Gator and the last remaining file deleted. Turns out that E Anthology/Stop Sign was a worm. I was pretty damn lucky I didn't lose the whole computer because of the crap. If Kazaa adds anymore crap like Gator and Gator starts downloading crap like that worm- all of it will go. I love downloading my songs, but not at the cost of screwing the whole computer up.
P.S- I know downloading is illegal. You get what you give. You do something illegal, you only expect something bad to happen to you in return. That might be true. However, I was tired of being gypped by buying cds. I'd buy cds from artists that I liked and be very disappointed when I realized I paid 18 bucks for a cd that only had 2 good songs on it. I still buy cds from the reliable artists that I know crank out good music with each cd they make. I just recently bought Shania Twain's new cd and I bought the Dixie Chicks new cd. This downloading music has made the cd business sit up and take listen. Shania Twain's 'Up' cd is a 2 cd set and I bought it from Walmart for 10 bucks.
Truth 12-31-2002, 04:55 AM I didn't know Kazaa installed Gator, but remember It installs 4-5 other programs usually along with kazaa, one of them will let the makers of Kazaa use your computer power and space, (Which is like them taking over your computer, You agreed to this btw in the user agreement), If a person did this, was able to send u something then with it they were able to use your computer power and stuff like this, It would probably be labeled a virus... as far as the other Programs that are bundled with kazaa, They just increase pop up's, Slow down your computer and watch what all you do...
Truth 12-31-2002, 04:57 AM Ill say its 90% evil, I guess it has some good parts of it, :)
Beruche 12-31-2002, 05:04 AM I hate kazaa. It comes with a lot of spyware. Once I downloaded it just to see how much spyware adaware would find. I like kazaa lite though. It has no spyware and works just as well (or at least I've heard it does).
dawsongirl 12-31-2002, 03:20 PM How do you get Kazaa lite??

I know this sounds dumb, but can you keep the songs you downloaded through plain kazaa? Will they transfer over to Kazaalite? j/w
Truth 12-31-2002, 07:54 PM It probably won't, Im assuming if you were to switch to Kazaa Lite and Delete Kazaa, Itd probably delete the songs as well, But all youd have to do is probably just move your songs out of the Kazaa Shared Files Folder, and onto a folder that Isn't in the Kazaa Folder, Since When you would uninstall Kazaa, It would delete the folder, and if you didn't move the songs out of the folder, then well, ;), So yea if you move them out of the Kazaa folder it should be ok, not completely sure though... Since ive never used Kazaa...

Woohoo!
mashunter18 12-31-2002, 11:31 PM Iv been running kazaa lite for ever. It's not really kazaa lite from the kazaalite website.
Here is what you do,first download and run adaware-clean your system of all the spyware adaware detects. When you install kazaa-you have to go into the kazaa file, and remove the clint.dll file.when you delete this file you get a fake clint, dll file, just make one up with your notepad and put this in your kazaa file.Run adaware and delete all the other garbage kazaa installed but the fake clint.dll file you made.Click to ignore this clint.dll file. You wont get any of the ad's while you download, and brilliant/sherman wont use your computer to run their company.Beleive me even if you check not to be a supernode, you will still be one.Once I figured all this out I removed kazaa, this was after I found 70 hidden brilliant files in my reg. and elsewhere etc...Im running kazaa 1.7 I beleive,Im not upgrading to the 2.0,they ask me everytime I go on .
Who said they got gater???Gator is the worst,I bet you still have it on your computer somewhere, you need to search the net and work your registry to get rid of it,be careful not to delete the wrong thing.I dont beleive you got gator from kazaa though.I went through a whole big thing about 1 year ago-when I downloaded the loveletter virus, what a pain that was even with norten 2000.I hardly download anymore,a word of advice if you ever download a vbs script,DONT OPEN IT!!!!!!!!!!I REPEAT DONT OPEN IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
As far as downloading shows goes, most of those from kazaa are crappy files-when you go to convert them to make vcd or vcd,the picture is junk when blown up,because the files are only good for that little media player screen, this has been my experiance from kazaa tv shows :D :D

Interesting, Yea Kazaa does come with a lotta Spyware and stuff, But keep in mind they may have spyware from other programs, and if they delete that spyware, those other programs may not work, best bet is to go to Ad-awares web site, www.lavasoftusa.com download and update adaware with the ref file, then post it on there support forum,

Very true,I worked on this for along time, getting rid of supposed spyware.....etc.......I know when I did the clint.dll, that annoying gambling ad on kazaa went away, and I have nothing but a blank spot on there now.I read lots of info, but doing anything, but my computer took a nasty crash with that loveletter,Im lucky I salvaged it-Ill never forget norten running my files and around 6900 coming up infected.Seems after i cleared all the junk out, then switched to a dsl connection,my puter runs great-with the normal defrags......etc........I dont do much downloading.I know if I go on to kazaa for a song, then close kazaa-it does still run even though I clicked close kazaa-but when I do a computer restart-it stops running.I keep evrything I download in the shared file, and someone's alwasy getting a song, but I got a good connection, and doesnt seem to slow me down.:D :D
adaware is a good program, seems all I ever get anymore when I run it is one of the yahoo doubleclick ads, that stores cookies or something........lol........
Truth 01-01-2003, 12:21 AM Yea Double Click pops up detected for me a lot of the time, Have you seen the list of spyware that comes with Imesh? Its just sad,

I had the Gator. I seriously hope I don't have it still on my computer. I swear thinking about the whole case just gives me a gigantic headache. If you've had to go through similar or even the same thing that I explained earlier, you know all about the hours it took to delete the crap. I know I sat at the computer for at least 4 hours looking through the files and going into yahoo and searching for info about this stop sign and e anthology. Here's the scary thing. If you don't delete all of the stop sign/e anthology, it will come back. That scared me half to death that a program could do that- especially when a user doesn't even know it's happening.
I didn't really connect my computer problems with the stop sign stuff. I know this might sound weird, but I'm going to explain my problems the best way I can. First off, the computer was starting to go really slowly. I summed it up to all the songs I had on Kazaa and all the pics on my screen saver. Then I noticed the screen would smear. The text on the screen would actually smear. You ever touched wet paint and smeared the paint down the paper? That's how the text was doing.
Norton would go very slowly during that time. Norton comes up automatically on my computer every Friday. The Friday before I discovered this worm, Norton took about 3 hours to scan all my files. Then I discovered the worm and got rid of the worm and I opened my Norton up again. I scanned my files and it took an hour. It's just my guess but I guess that worm was working its way through Norton and when Norton was destroyed, it would work on the rest of the computer.
Truth 01-01-2003, 12:24 AM Don't you have auto-protect on for Norton?

Just do what I do. Put them in a folder in your "My Documents" folder and then you won't have to worry.

I didn't reinstall windows..maybe I should! I lost so many good songs. Right now I'm using Ares and so far I haven't had any problems, but it doesn't have as big of a library as Kazaa did. Also, thought I'd tell some of you in case you didn't know, there's also a Kaaza.com (notice the spelling's different) and probably others if you misspell the word a little.
ClassicTV4Ever 01-02-2003, 10:51 AM I don't download anything at all anymore, not even songs. I never downoaded any sitcoms though. There's just way too much risk involved in downloading that just isn't worth it.

dawsongirl 01-04-2003, 04:10 PM %$#$@#$ that Kazaa!
Okay, so I got Ad-Aware and cleaned out my computer. But oops, I did it before I uninstalled Kazaa. Now my computer won't get it out of my Add/Delete Hardware file.
So I thought, well, I'll re-download it, then get rid of it. :p Didn't work. Now I have all this other crap to find and get rid of.
Truth 01-04-2003, 06:01 PM btw, I believe if you have Kazaa, then do a spyware scan and get rid of it all, Kazaa will just bring it all back, Not positive on that... Maybe not with the spyware it has like Common Name or New.Net, But I think it does with its "Cydoor" Spyware...
