RainMan 12-25-2002, 07:04 PM Please DO NOT Criticize Kmart in this post. Please say at least ONE good thing about Kmart whether the food court food was good or you saw low prices.
ANYTHING BUT BAD!
Thanks
Nate

JDS84 12-25-2002, 08:17 PM There is this hot guy that works at the K-mart in my hometown. Oh my god he is so hot. He is always checking me out when I am walking in and I always check out in his aisle.

What she said. But it has to be certain kinds of stuff...like makeup or CDs or whatever. Can't be clothes

Stormtracker TF 12-27-2002, 10:20 PM Has a good food court, has a nice selection of stuff, good prices. Is a very fun place to shop @. :D
I'm bumping this up for nostalgic reasons after the return of RainMan.
I remember their blue light specials. I liked their Icees. I played their video games a lot. They always had good prices. Maybe their stores weren't always the cleanest.
It's very sad that there are only three locations left in the U.S. Walmart, Target and Amazon really killed their business.

Bonniegirl 04-30-2022, 03:03 PM I miss KMart so much ! :( Was one of my favorite stores!
Caroline13 04-30-2022, 03:32 PM In my shopping life, I looked forward to a trip to K Mart and Target et al and for the last
10+ yr am getting rid of the stuff I bought there...
stevea 04-30-2022, 06:51 PM I liked TYFSOK (Thank you for shopping our K Mart)
I also liked their T-Shirts.
D-Dey 04-30-2022, 07:01 PM Their online site still exists:

80sTrivia 04-30-2022, 07:40 PM Sad to think there are only three Kmarts left in the whole country. I certainly remember heading to the The Big K Supercenters (there were two) near where I grew up to get back to school clothes with my parents before heading to Sears and JCPenneys. So many things are just disappearing...

They call it progress and Bezos.
theoneandonlytvqueen 04-30-2022, 11:48 PM I remember their reasonable prices, the Basic Editions brand of clothing and I'm glad that I live in a state that still has one Kmart as of this post.

I remember liking Kmart's Route 66 brand of clothing. I actually still have a slate gray, long sleeve pullover shirt from Route 66 in my closet to this day! I can still wear the darn thing and it's still in great condition!:lol::lol:
Mr. Television 05-01-2022, 01:55 PM A lot of old time members posted in this thread. Brings back memories.
As for K-Mart, ours closed down about 5 years ago. I really miss it.
Our Kmart in my state has been closed for awhile now, and the only time that it's open is when it's a Spirit Halloween store.
Penny Lane 05-05-2022, 01:38 PM Wow! This is an old thread! I haven't been to K-Mart in years! It was a nice store but too much competition. Walmart, Target, Kohl's, etc.
biffbronson 05-05-2022, 03:15 PM I have a lightweight, tan jacket with a zipper that belonged to my dad that has a Kmart label inside. I think he bought it in the very early 1970s. I wear that practically every day in the spring and early fall. It's so durable, it's unreal.
I spent a lot of Sunday afternoons at a Kmart back when I was growing up.

ANYTHING BUT BAD!I wouldnt think of doing that :D
I remember going there and getting m&ms I loved (They changed them in 2000 so I happen to find alot of older bags there a few times (They changed from whole milk to Skim Milk and they taste like crap now))
I cant believe I didnt see this thread TJ when I was scanning this base for good stuff to reply to!
GentlemanJim 05-05-2022, 03:54 PM The K-mart stores in my town are cleaner now, than I remember them ever being, before.

They've had plenty of time to clean the empty buildings, I see that the Kmarts in your area have been gone for more than 7 years...!
A quick check also shows that Indiana's last surviving Kmart stores closed in late 2019.

Well.... Have times change: https://www.nj.com/business/2023/08/kmart-is-closing-its-last-nj-store.html

Went to Kmart today, I think for the last time. Discounts was 15-80% 80% was the holiday items. Had some stuff but still sad to see. I couldn't find much, pretty cleaned out. The Kmart was part of a shopping complex that has now seen Hallmark, Harmon & Payless exit.
TheLittleFaerie 08-19-2023, 03:43 AM I SO MUCH preferred it over Wal-Mart. I hated when it went out :( I dunno if they exist still any place else, but we lost ours in about 2002. We also lost JCPenny's recently and they were both in the same mall. I hated that as well, no where to get really nice clothes in town. BUT we do have a Rose's where K-Mart used to be, so thats a pretty good store
TheLittleFaerie 08-19-2023, 03:47 AM I really don't understand all the hate K-Mart gets, just because it didn't look like something from the year 2075, like every other places tries to
Yong Fang 08-19-2023, 04:20 AM Kmart was OK. It is sort of a mystery why this brand eventually died out while a very similar company, Wal-Mart basically rules the World. I think maybe the difference was that K Mart wasn’t as diverse as Walmart and it sold cheaper goods. From what I have read, the company was basically gutted and squeezed out after making really bad business decisions. Walmart is ran very intelligently.

K Mart did a nice job for many y rs in my life as did Penny's, Sears and so many great stores that have been pushed out for the walmarts now, I don't go to walmart, we have none close to me for starters.
I once stopped at one on my way to Palm Springs, it was in the boonies, and the place looked and smelled like a warehouse out of China....

In our mall, we had Penny's, Goody's and K-Mart, all 3 gone now :( It's like one side of the mall is pretty thriving, but the other side is more less dead lol
rusty spike 08-24-2023, 11:05 AM You can still park in the parking lot.
What killed them starting in the 2000s was a ridiculous check out process that increased the time from 2-3 minutes to 10-12 minutes. They wanted all this information about YOU- phone numbers, emails, invitation to sign up for savings clubs, credit cards and product warranty plans. My God it was slow to check out. Kinda of like Radio Shack

You mean their Shop Your Way Rewards program that Kmart and Sears have?
I worked for Sears. I can tell you that Shop Your Way rewards program is an…absolute joke of a rewards program. It took way too much time to sign people up and had loads of flaws. That’s one of the reasons why Sears and especially Kmart are going downhill.
80sTrivia 08-26-2023, 10:00 AM I saw on the news that one of the two Kmart stores remaining in New Jersey will be closing in a few weeks! :( Just two Kmarts will be open in all of the US now. I don't think the last two hold-outs (the other in Florida) have much of a chance at being around over the next few years... :( :( :(
stevea 08-26-2023, 01:09 PM Say something nice--let's see--
They might have still been around if they'd been able to update and refresh their stores.
As far as Sears goes, thee are none of them left around here, just like Kmart. Where are they still open?
MISST3 08-26-2023, 03:06 PM K-Mart, Sears, and Montgomery Ward are all online.
Bonniegirl 08-26-2023, 07:58 PM I miss KMart and Sears !!:(
